Cat Cheetah and the Lotus were top 2 were the Kestrel an honourable mention. Need a seperate video on if disc brakes are something actually a performance enhancer or simply industry making us to buy more and at a higher price.

Zipp used the Softride beam on the original 2001, later redesigning the bike to utilize their own beam. Greg Welch continued to ride the Softride beam (on a Softride bike) in '92, [93 he was injured], as well as his victory in '94...and beyond. The presenter's assertion regarding the performance of the Softride beam is misguided, and based on nothing factual.

Softride beams were beneficial for smooth pedallers. The inertia of their thighs and body weight being in proportional balance, the preload of the beam was effective in tuning out road shock. Powerful pedallers with a choppier action would bounce up and down on the beam, so stiffer beams would be needed negating the the shock absorption. BITD smooth pedallers loved it choppy pedallers hated it (because there is no top-tube clearance and out of saddle performance is hindered). I’ve no experience with the more modern designs, and I’m sure Softride didn’t have access to the tools required for effective layup, namely FEA and stress modelling, so maybe the newer designs perform differently.
