@Borxkills34 Highly massive sadness. Six Flags & Disneyland sound like really fun amusement parks for me to go to, and if they become derelict in the future, it would probably be because Six Flags would've had lost its sales, and it'd also be because Disneyland was slowly becoming less popular. But both of 'em will never, ever close, 'cause they're both the happiest places on the planet.

@gamewizardks9 жыл бұрын
Brian Bailey - I am as well. I found the narrative to be quite off, though. Basically Joyland closed when the new owners went broke in 2006. It was decayed then, but reparable. It wasn't vandalism that was the problem at that point, just the economy and changing trends over the years. The former owners got Joyland back in a public auction but never did anything with it but sell off the antiquity and good stuff. It sat empty for awhile and then the vandals came. A fire knocked out the arcade not long ago. Almost 10 years came to a head recently and the roller coaster finally collapsed. I heard they did a zombie movie or TV show on the grounds recently and they are demolishing everything right now.

I reside and grew up in San Antonio and have fond memories of both Fiesta Texas and Six Flags Fiesta Texas. This is so weird Creeps! There was a joy land in the town I moved from, Lubbock Texas, and it's very run down and most of it is vandalized! It's still open and you can go ride the few rides, however you won't get much fun out if it. Most of the employees are rude and don't care about your safety. There are rides called the musical express, mouse trap (a small roller coaster) dare Devils drop, log splash and even a ski lift the get you across the tiny park! Schools in Lubbock still take band kids to the park for a day at the end of the school year.

i grew up round joyland in wichita kansas. hell it was my first job manning the front gate. its heart breaking to see whats become of it. I blame 2 things. 1-the nelsons sold it to some company who didnt give 2 shits bout it. 2-mrs nelson. It seems like she's just given up on it. Alot of people want it running again but i think she's just given up. it reminds her of her husband and the money issues. ive brought up having the city take over as a city landmark therefore protected from vandals. It seems the city is interested in the property but not perserving the park. Word has gotten round their gonna build...apartments once the entire park is demolished. Years ago the mascot of the park Louie the Clown went missing. Well earlier this year he was found in a pedophiles home. Creepy thing is I knew the pedos sister, Id went to school with her. My fear is the items from the park will just be locked away & forgotten. The carousel was donated to our city garden business and their working to getting it running again. Ive said it before create an entertainment tax like 2cents for 5 years to get the park fixed and running again. Hell I would be honored to help fix the park up. I would gladly volunteer but again Mrs Nelson is saying no. People have offered to clean it up & everytime she says no. Some say its too far gone money wise to fix it. Get a tax to fix it up & i promise you those same people will be front & center opening day. Companies have shown interest in the park. Her son said its too far gone but yet when a company is gonna use it in a video shoot they talk to her.

Zack Kaiser - I've lived in Wichita my entire life and have many memories at Joyland and I am sad to see what has happened to it, but no way should the taxpayers prop up a failing business that is not even necessary to the community. We are taxed enough already. We can't bail out every business and, by extension, enrich every hustler that comes along to take advantage of situations like this. Government should stay out of it and not waste our money.

I miss big kahuna! It was a water park I went to every time. It closed down because of sanitation since mothers often send children and toddlers there. Lazor tag, arcades, but best of all, water-slide water way that leads into other parts of the park and a central area that was called the wild pit with gator-floats that are in the pool. It also didn't help that rumors said that kids got killed at the park because of accidents from the rides. Now the only thing in the park now are gators and gangs. A pity...

It had to have been in the year 2000 the last time I visited Joyland, 6 years before it closed. We went as a field trip in 5th grade, and I remember half the rides actually working and riding the Log Flume and Wacky Shack numerous times becuase those were a few of the things running that day. I was able to Ride the Roller Coaster once before they close it for the day. My family and I were sad that it closed, be we knew it was unavoidable, just because, even in 2000, it was already falling apart. It's really sad to see an old standard of Wichita fall to ruins, but it's almost gone now anyway, barely anything there now, because of all the vandals, thefts, stuff being auctioned off, and all the fires.

I never knew that's why Joy Land closed down. I live in Wichita and it's a staple of adolecence here to sneak into Joy Land. Almost any teenager you ask has been there and most of us go because it's creepy and have to go when it's getting dark. Its some Bridge to Tarrabithia shit to get there, a swing and under a bridge threw a hole. I remember one of my friends went into the hall of mirrors and almost got cornered and trapped by a bunch of homeless people living there.

HowlingFlames - There was no hall of mirrors at Joyland, at least not since I was a child back in the 70's when I first started going. There was a dark ride called the 'Wacky Shack', maybe this is what you are talking about?

That sounds more familiar, I haven't been there myself and the friend who told me that story could be full of shit (like he usually is)

When he talked about the New Orleans abandoned park I set down my slushy and said "I didn't mean to do it!" Because I was born when hurricane Katrina was happening

I would have totally tried and convinced my parents to take my to the Wizard Of Oz amusement park. Only because I love the movie and have always wanted to actually be on the original set and walk on the yellow brick road and go to the Emerald city. It really is too bad that I think all the actors have passed away. :(

im sad you didn't mention Boblo Island, my parents told me about it, you'd take a boat over to it and it was a cool amusement park on an island, it got shut down thought, i wish i could have seen it in it's hayday.
