thanks for the vid - completely agree, Rattlesnake Ledge is the perfect gateway hike, I love watching first timers get to the top with the "holy cr@p, I just climbed a f'n mountain!" expression on their faces. One quick FYI, the access road to Pilchuck is closed this year for maintenance, (but it's awesome as well, just be ready for the boulder scramble to the very top.)

Yeah thank you! And I compare any quick day high to Rattlesnake it’s a tough match for any hike because as you said, the views are unreal! Just don’t ever go on a weekend haha. And good to know about Pilchuck. It’s such a great hike so that’s a bummer for now.

As someone that has lived out here on the the plateau for 21 years, yes it is a beautiful state. It is not a great, beautiful, fun or safe city. Seattle is in fact a cesspool. The first 10 years I lived here that was not the case. It has changed for the worse. Lots of reasons why, none of which had to be. A series of unforced errors by the city and King County. That aside, from 4th of July through late Sept or early October, depending on the year, Washington State is one of the nicest places to experience mountainous wilderness.

Hello! Your video just made me more excited about my trip to Seattle trip next month. Question, is Seattle has strict regulations when it comes to flying drones in parks and hike spots? I want to take some drone shots too when I get to Rattlesnake Ledge. Thanks!
@BoschVoyage
@BoschVoyage 3 жыл бұрын
I would always check to see as the rules frequently change. At the time of flying, there were not rules posted against flying drones there.

Walking to the Vance Creek Bridge is allowed even though goes through private property. You must stay on the easement through the private property. Actually walking on the bridge is not allowed because of the danger. The AllTrails website has a description of the hike and recent trip reports.

Rattlesnake Ledge: “Never hike in the daytime here; always come in the evening … It makes it one of the best places to come for a day hike out of the city.” Could you please clarify for a novice like me? Is a “day hike” not necessarily a hike during the daytime? And how does hiking during the evening affect visibility? Is it not difficult to see where you’re walking? Thanks for the suggestions. 👍
@BoschVoyage
@BoschVoyage 2 жыл бұрын
Hey good question! A day hike just means a hike that does not require overnight camping, known as “backpacking”. And for visibility for sun rise or sunset, you’ll need to bring a headlamp (which really should be brought on the majority of hikes for safety). You can buy one on amazing for under $20: amzn.to/2ZBQH1y But usually on these short hikes I can use the residual light and moonlight to see for most the hike down. Hope that helps!!

Hi folks, I have seen a lot of people suggesting Rattlesnake-ledge to watch the sunset from the top. Is it easy enough to come back right after the sunset? What's the latest time you would recommend starting the way back? Thank you
@BoschVoyage
@BoschVoyage 3 жыл бұрын
Yes it’s super easy to come back after sunset. I always bring headlamps but rarely use them. I was just there last week and the sunset was again stunning. I would give your self a start time of about 2 hours before sunset, so you have time on top to enjoy the view. And make sure to park outside the gate to be safe!

I would have totally disagree with you about your number one pick oh, but you said do not hiking in the daytime oh, but you like it in the morning or night that is absolutely right that's the only time I would like it. I'm surprised you did not mention Mount Storm King my son and I hiked it last weekend and it is the best I've ever been on
@BoschVoyage
@BoschVoyage 3 жыл бұрын
Yes for sure only in morning or evening, and a weekday is even better. From Seattle rattlesnake is only 35 minutes away and can be done anytime, and for something that close to have this good of views, it had to be #1 to me. I’ve done Storm King, it’s a great hike. It’s just a long ways from Seattle and a series of tough, steep switch backs until you get to the amazing view at the top. For the Olympics, I would choose Mt. Townsend over Storm King. The views from the top are so incredible, and you’re positioned right next to other Mt. Peaks.

Literally SHOCKED you said Rattlesnake, could not disagree more. I will literally never do that hike again its just not worth it. Also its only a day hike from Seattle if you can drive there, hike it, and drive back in one day. Something that is 3 hours away is not a day hike.
@BoschVoyage
@BoschVoyage 2 жыл бұрын
I would recommend Rattlesnake at sunset. It's a pretty special place that in around a half hour drive you can be somewhere completely transformed from the city. And on a weeknight sunset hike (which I've done a few times) I've never counted more than 5 people at the top. And yes, 3 hours is a bit far, I agree. But Maple Pass Loop is that special, and I've done it as a day hike twice and loved it both times. Also the drive there is pretty special.

Stop ruining the hiking experience with your effing drones! Someone needs to invent some kind of jammer to use when they're out in the wilderness. Also, pretty irresponsible of you to recommend the Vance Creek Bridge.
@RebelByNature
@RebelByNature 6 ай бұрын
It's a federal offense with thousands of dollars of fines and possible prison time to interfere with the operation of a drone, or any other kind of aircraft. I love hiking. I love solitude. But some of you that also love it are some of the most whining, entitled, little babies in the world. Not everything is about you. Some people lose their mind if there is a dog on the trail. Some take this leave no trace thing, which I generally agree with, to absurd levels. Some groups of people are hiking the trails, talking loudly, laughing, ruining the serenity. If you are on a popular trail, especially one on the I90 corridor, west of the pass, on a weekend, you will be with a lot of people and their actions are going to intrude upon your 'experience'. Get over yourself. Don't like drones? Too bad, not everything is about you. Seriously, drones are just not that loud unless they are literally right on top of you. If you can hear it at all it's going to quiet than the person next to you talking.
