I believe that Dumbo is quite timeless. Sure, there are a few various details about it that certainly have not aged well, there is no use for me to deny that. However, it has plenty of underlying themes that hold up without a doubt. Most notably how it has instances of how animal cruelty is used and exploited for human gain. That is a MAJOR discussion point for future generations, and was quite ahead of its time period when it was released.

I really miss the Renaissance 2D animation of Disney animated movies. I am wishing that they will make an another Disney film with their classic 2D animation. I really loved when I saw 2D animation again in Disenchanted In my opinion, 3D animation looks very beautiful, amazing, well detailed but the 2D animation brings so much life to the characters. Their faces, clothes, facial expression, hand gestures, sceneries, and musical sequence. There is something very magical in 2D animation. It's an unexplainable feeling and so nostalgic at the same time.

With December coming, the National Film Registry will be preserving a new group of films. Time for Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, Lady and the Tramp, 101 Dalmatians, The Jungle Book, The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, and The Nightmare Before Christmas to join the group. Now, Pocahontas, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Hercules, Tarzan, and The Emperor's New Groove are well beloved in their own right, Disney doesn't seem to treat them as legendary. Mulan and Lilo & Stitch come close to that.
@hunterolaughlin2 жыл бұрын
I hope The Little Mermaid gets inducted this year as I’m tired of waiting for the Library of Congress to induct it into the Registry as there’s enough evidence that the film is “culturally, historically and aesthetically significant” and SHOULD have been already inducted. I know this one’s not a Disney animated film unless it being directed by a ex-animator qualifies, but I would also like to see The Secret of NIMH included among this year’s inductees as I think Don Bluth deserves to have at least ONE of his animated films preserved in the Registry and it would be a nice way of honoring both Don Bluth and the film for its 40th anniversary.

I think Pocahontas is timeless. The background and character animations R gorgeous, the musical score is beautiful, and the songs R arguably the best songs composed by Alan Menken and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz. Sure, the story is historical inaccurate, but I don't care it's a historical fairytale, like Don Bluth's Anastasia and Pocahontas' ending is quite wholesome and unsatisfyingly satisfying with the main character, Pocahontas, not leaving with the man she loves, John Smith, and chooses 2 stay with her people.

Predictable number one as always. Will there ever be a Disney list that isn’t topped by the Lion King? Y’all need to start looking more closely pre-renaissance. I know some of the films can be a bit problematic by modern standards, however it doesn’t subtract from the beauty of the art or the awesomeness of the story. Lady and the Tramp is an original,beautiful story about two dogs from opposite worlds finding love (and not at first sight) but having to face the realities of being a dog as well as responsibility over desire. Sleeping Beauty is a visual masterpiece of art that created several timeless characters in a world of art that is extremely detailed. The story may be a little “by-the-numbers”, but the art is so breathtaking that you won’t notice. Robin Hood is a softer retelling of the original story with engaging characters and soundtrack that deserves more praise than it gets. The art isn’t great, but Peter Ustinov will make up for that with his over-the-top Prince John. Drag yourself out of movies of the past 30 years and enjoy something that is actually timeless.
