Cinderella III is one of my favorites sequels. The original was great, a timeless classic, and the sequel was...meh. But the third movie was really fun. Cinderella was a great character in the OG movie in my opinion but CIII makes her even better. Also, Anastacia (I am not sure about her name) became one of my favorites characters.

Lesson of today It is possible to make a good sequel without retcon the continuity or ruining established characters. Today's film writers should learn that.
@krwizard59914 жыл бұрын
I think the film writers get the lesson, sometime new generation people don't like the idea that old generation created; so the continuity flaw occur because of idea clashes, the same thing with MLP story writing due to changing of the directors and writing staff. That how business world work, you can't stay on the same strategy forever.

@@krwizard5991 The issue with that is, though, most people who watch a sequel, watch it because they watched the first one. They're watching it because they liked the first one, or for nostalgia. Neither one of those is really compatible with retconning the whole movie. It's just a good way to piss off a good chunk of your audience.

I think it's that Bambi aimed for a very different direction than what modern Disney movies are known for. It was a naturalistic piece, it was meant to be immersive, not revolved around the characters specifically, they were just another part of the composition. Bambi II meanwhile follows a more standard Disney format, giving Bambi and everyone else a character study to give a new light to how the original plays out. It just depends whether you think that compliments or contradicts the spirit of the original film, though it means both films have a very unique take on the same story.
@Mysticgamer4 жыл бұрын

TLK2 was good enough for “He Lives In You” to be woven into the Broadway TLK soundtrack, so there’s that, too. :D I do agree with The Little Mermaid 3 being beautifully animated, but the story was so underwhelming besides Triton’s growth and seeing Ariel’s mom. I don’t think “Footloose but underwater” was the right way to go about it, and they really could’ve tied Ursula into it instead of Marina Del Ray (although I do appreciate her pun name, given my college was in Marina Del Rey). But that’s just my two cents.
@the-nina-beans884 жыл бұрын
Actually the Broadway was before TLK2.
@phlpcockrell4 жыл бұрын
Exactly! Marina could have and should have been a pre-banished Ursula. Make Triton transform her from how she looked in the movie into an octopus hag, or have her do it herself as an act of rebellion, feeling so enraged she doesn't even want fins (just to explain away why Ariel doesn't recognize her) and instead of banishing music, let that be the start of banishing human stuff. Like merfolk were fine with humans and triton was fine with the fishing, like a circle of life kind of thing, but baby Ariel starts playing with a net on her first trip to the surface nd that boat's a comin. Mom manages to untangle her in time and squish. Which would totally justify Triton's rage with Ariel's curiosity toward human things and humans. (Though that would lowkey imply Triton partially blames Ariel for her mom's death which might be too heavy for a direct to video disney movie)
@the-nina-beans884 жыл бұрын
Phil hmmm. That’s way better then what we got. Triton is very over protective of Ariel over her sister since she’s the youngest... Trying to think what could of been a better alternative to how Athena could of been killed or something to cause the lost and Tritons depression.
@chsparkle4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, what happened to Ariel's mother seemed like the perfect tie-in to exactly why Triton is so dead against humans instead of...music. The film could have been about Ariel first finding human things and how she ends up loving them. Also, as you said, Ursula would have been the obvious villain and how she ends up banished.
@PurpleTigerGirl16194 жыл бұрын
I have to agree about Little Mermaid 3, I loved finally getting some story about Ariel's mom but the rest of the plot... pathetic. The villain totally should have been pre-banishment Ursula who actually plotted with a human to attempt to off both Triton and Athena but they are only successful in offing Athena and making Triton hate humans. Ursula then tells Triton that she'll handle kingdom ruling for him while he's in mourning then through Ariel's refusal to believe that all humans are bad and her determination and help from her sisters they discover Ursula's plot to overthrow Triton and take the kingdom for herself, Triton bands together with his daughters to defeat and banish his sister then uses the power of his trident to erase all memory of her from all of Atlantica although the audience gets shown a scene of some poor mer person talking to another about how the sea witch is said to help mer people with their problems as they swim toward Ursula's lair and a scene of Ariel showing flounder her grotto or something, little bits that completely set up the events of the first movie. Boom, way better plot that plays into the original without continuity conflict or error.

The hakuna matata thing is similar to the "everything is awesome" thing from lego movie. I was really weirded out that they would put that on so much merch, when the point of the song is that people should just conform and enjoy the life given them.... like robots O_o
@donnamitsuki2814 жыл бұрын
I always saw Hakuna Matata as the phrase "can't fix it? Then maybe you shouldn't worry". It's something I've seen before,you can't stress over absolutely everything and try to make everything perfect. The thing is that Simba eventually takes it too far,unaware of what Scar has done to the kingdom on his absence. Hakuna Matata is not bad in itself its just how you take it. Then,understanding well enough Hakuna Matata,you can add Rafiki's words: learn from the past or run away from it. And I don't get why some say Timon and Pumbaa weren't "useful" for Simba,like keeping him alive for so long and basically taking care of him despite his species is pretty good.
@gobokinje91834 жыл бұрын

It not only has a deeper plot than the original, but the animators made characters just as realistic as the original film, and the backgrounds! They are just as beautiful as the original if not more so! Bambi 2 was good enough to be a theatrical release! Bambi 2 IS Bambi, but better, more adorable, and heavy hitting to the heart with Patrick Stewart being best father, despite having to grow into that role.

With TLK2, I'm pretty sure they changed it because the story wasn't written with human morals in mind, at least not with the Kovu/Kiara thing. It's not uncommon for incest to go in lion tribes, but because it's kinda mixed up and kids are impressionable, they had to make some small edits. But honestly, it was made more for the parents, because most kids assume Kovu is Scar's kid and don't think about it too much until they're older. Or you can just explain that with lions it isn't weird.

For the most part, she just wanted to be free and yeah she could be an idiot at time, when you're a kid you're not that brilliant to begin with. On a tangental note: Tangled got a TV show that takes place after the movie.... and it is actually GOOD! It's technically supposed to be a kids show, but it takes pride in its ability to appeal to adults...like another show I could mention. Okay, enough bouncing around my point. Here's a brief, spoiler-free synopsis. Six months after, Eugene freed her from the tower, Rapunzel is adapting to palace life, but she still yearns to see the outside world, and understandably so, after still being newly free from Gothel's Tower. Sadly, her newfound wonderlust has poor timing. Her father, now glad to have his daughter back, is feeling very insecure about losing her again and won't let her mingle with her subjects. Eugene is eager to propose to her for her hand in marriage. AND she's got a whole ceremony waiting for her to make her the princess of Corona officially. All of the above serve to make Rapunzel feel like she's back at the tower again. Enter Rapunzel's new friend and warrior lady-in-waiting, Cassandra, who helps her break the rules, and slip out. Once out, they go to where the sundrop flower once sat and find black rocks sitting where it once was. One touch, and Rapunzel gets more than she bargains for. Her long hair is back, but getting rid of it won't be as simple as cutting. And she can't heal any more. Plus, the black rocks are now shooting up everywhere...and drawing closer to Corona. And it's up to Rapunzel, Eugene, and Cassandra to find out what's going on before Corona is destroyed. So yeah, no. It's really good. I love the animation, the comedy's spot-on, the characters are likeable, many voice actors from the movie have returned with excellent performances, (no, I don't know if the writers from the movie wrote the show, stop asking), the music is awesome, and when the characters break into the song, the songs DO service the plot, they DON'T reset Eugene's and Rapunzel's relationship status and instead build upon it, and it deals in moral ambiguity. Very well, I might add. So why haven't you heard of it? It's because Disney did a poor job of marketing it! I can count the number of people I met whom have heard of the show on one hand. Still, I think it's worth checking out.

A lot of the stuff in Lion King 2 can be explained. They should've done it in the movie with a flashback or something but we got what we got. The Scar loyalists were most likely out looking for food far away from the Pridelands. It would explain why they thought Scar was the rightful king and hating Simba. Zira being Scar's mate while he wanted Nala can be explained as Zira being his side girl. He didn't want a queen originally, but when Zazu brought it up years later that's when he wanted Nala. She was a young adult while Zira was getting older, Scar likes em young I guess. Also Vitani is great, how dare you put her in the same camp as Nuka.

C2 was obviously three pilot episodes of a Cinderella series that was not to be. However, I do wish Disney had actually picked it up as a series. Two of the three stories/episodes were good, the other was merely acceptable. Combined with Cinderella actually being Walt's personal favorite fairy tale, it makes me want to ask the test audience, "What were you thinking?!"

I actually really like some of the direct-to-video sequels, but obviously some of them are big fat stinkers

Melody is a comfort character for me, as a neurodivergent kid who wanted to be a mermaid and had issues fitting in with my peers. That scene with her and the snotty aristocrats really got me as a child.

Did some research and apparently the octopus was created as a new nemesis for Captain Hook because it was felt that the Disney animators had exhausted all the comic possibilities of "Hook vs. the Crocodile" in the original Peter Pan (1953) ....Still makes no sense for a reason though. Don't even get me started on what the sequel to 101 dalmatians means. There was a freaky book sequel that was all a dream? And I just wanna forget that.
