Top 10 Dogs That Will Give Their Lives for You
The term “Man's Best Friend” was not a title that dogs earned for no reason. True, they serve many practical purposes like bird dogs or service dogs. It even goes beyond the love and affection that they are so willing to give. Being a pack animal by nature, dogs consider you one of their pack; you are their family. Many breeds of dogs are bread to be fiercely protective of their family and, if need be, will not hesitate to lay down their lives for them. Here is our list of top 10 dogs that will give their lives for you.
Before we get into our list, don't forget that we are constantly coming out with new videos. So, be sure to hit the notification bell and subscribe to our channel.
10/) Giant Schnauzer
First on our list, we have the giant schnauzer. It is best not to read too much into the name because, when compared to other “giant” breeds like great danes or rottweilers, it is relatively small. But, it is given the name “giant” because it is the largest of the three breeds of schnauzer.
In a domestic setting, they are usually a very quiet breed. As they can be very territorial, strangers are under great suspicion. But, once introduced, they are accepting of people and especially children. Due to its territoriality, it has the potential to be aggressive. However, they are known to imprint on their owners and are extremely loyal.
So, even though they may not be the warm and cuddly dogs that some hope for, they will absolutely protect you, even at their own expense.
9.) Akita
Number 9 brings us to the Akita, a breed that originates in the mountainous regions of northern Japan. These dogs are known for being dominant and independent; even feline in some of their actions. They are known to sometimes clean their faces after eating and will even preen their kennel mates. But their temperaments are something to be cautious of.
Akitas are large and powerful dogs that are incredibly territorial and not suited for inexperienced handler. They are slow to trust strangers and are extremely prone to be aggressive towards other dogs; especially dogs of the same sex. However, as a breed, they have a specific affinity for children and, after accepting an owner, will instinctively bring them under its protection.
So, while it is difficult to train these large dogs, they will protect you at all cost.
8.) Great Pyrenees
A large dog originating from France, the Great Pyrenees was bred to be a livestock guard dog. It is also one of the few breeds of dog that are nocturnal. Because of its instinct to protect, it can be aggressive with larger animals that it perceives to be a threat. However, it can typically be trusted with smaller animals as it tends to take on the role of guardian.
The Great Pyrenees can grow to be over 100 lbs. They are gentle and affectionate towards anyone that it feels is part of their flock, like a family. It has a general demeanor of composure, patience and loyalty. Always on patrol and never afraid to be loud towards anything it deems threatening, you will definitely feel protected. However, it can be very strong-willed and reluctant to learn commands. So, ownership will be a patient, yet rewarding process.
7.) Tosa Inu
The Tosa Inu is a breed of dog that originated in Japan. It is a very rare breed of dog that can grow up to 135 lbs. Some non-Japanese breeders have even been able to breed them up to 200 lbs. But, this breed is one that is actually considered by many to be dangerous because it was bred for one specific reason, and that is to fight. Dog fighting is still legal in some parts of Japan and the Tosa is the breed of choice.
While it is possible for the Tosa Inu to develop a sense of companionship with a human owner, it is typically a rocky relationship. Because of their purpose, they tend to immediately try to dominate, usually being unwilling to be controlled. As a matter of fact, ownership of Tosas is legally restricted in many countries including Australia, Great Britain, Denmark, New Zealand and Iceland, among others.
It is sad that the dogs are bred to have such a violent demeanor. It is highly unlikely that any of us will have the opportunity to own one. But, if the situation presents itself, it may be best to keep looking.

I jus recently lost my pittie. He got cancer and it took him very quickly. I miss him so much. When he was dying he put his head on my head then he placed his paws across my arms as if to say it's time. I didn't want to let him to go but I could see how much he was suffering so I told him "it's ok ill be ok you can go" and he laid down and died in my arms. But even now I 😢 because I loved him so much and I miss him like crazy!!!

I am so thrilled to see the Cane Corso on here. They are so underrated in their love for their owner. My dog was fiercely loyal. He was a Velcro dog as well, he would follow me anywhere and if I shut a door he would be there when I opened it. He would never just "go" with anyone, he would only leave with his family. I miss him with all my heart and know he could never be replaced. He died on my lap in the living room with his entire family around staring right into my eyes. I tell everyone how much that boy changed my life. Not a day goes by in the past 3 years that I don't think of him. xxoo Great Video!

I’ve had and lived with 4 pit bulls over the years and still have one now. They are lap dogs, baby sitters, great with kids, most loving dogs i would agree. And I would agree they are selfless and would protect their family to the death. Mine would lay next to my one year old and walk next to her so she could hold on to him while she learned to walk... absolutely amazing!

I have an Amstaff and it’s the same with her. She doesn’t have an aggressive bone in her body. The only time I’ve seen her act threatening is when a stranger came up into the yard while I was napping on the couch. She looked like she was ready to tear them up through the window, but that was just bc they came on our property. Outside of the house she is more likely to lick you into submission than even nip at you.

Dobermans are special Velcro loving pups who live for their family without exception. My beloved Dobie passed at nearly 13 years and I love her no less todsy. She was 95 lbs as an adult half American, half European. She was my protector her entire life. My European Doberman pup proves from early on to be an aggressive loyal love for our family without reservation. She just turned one year and proves the difference between American and European Dobermans can be recognized early on. My girl has been socialized by an amazing trainer I never needed for my beloved Dobie past but essential for this European. Guard dog this one was born and significantly different from my first Dobie. And by the way, Dobermans are the only dogs I will ever get. They are the most gentle Velcro guard dogs you'll ever be blessed to have. They're funny and michevious and sweet beyond belief.

Fine video here, and mighty swell picks. Dogs truly are man's best friend, the most loyal creatures on the planet. I remember watching a story on KZbin about a pit bulldog that took three shots from a home intruder to protect his human family. One of those shots was to the head, but the lady of the bulldog says that he still kept going at the intruder. Don't worry, the dog survived. Dogs like that have even given their lives for their masters for sporting events like the ones talked about here. A hound with so much grit and loyalty, it would fight a bull because the master wants him to.

I had a German Shepherd 30-35 years ago so when I wanted a good guard/watch dog in my retirement I selected another from a breeder with a “track record.” I forgot how fast they grow. At 1 year he is 90 lbs with most of that growth occurring in his first 6-7 months. He is intimidating with his looks alone. His bark after dark also becomes intimidating. No one has even attempted to come into the yard who does not already have a good relationship with him. His high energy level makes him a bit much to handle at times, but his intelligence is so keen that it imposes acceptable self-monitoring. If you are going to have a German Shepherd you will need a good fence to define his area. He is very observant and truly impressive in every way.

Not true. Some Doberman and German Shepherds have had that instinct bred out of them for pets. If you want the intelligence and inate protectiveness of German Origionated dogs, you have to get Euro bred dogs as their breeders are trying to keep them origional in their genetics and healthy with no or little DNA changes or inbred dogs. These are your top dogs! American bred german breeds are all messed up with their genetics. Go Euro!

I would add the Australian cattle dog or the Blue Heeler to this list although the blue heeler like the American pit bull has a lot of controversy around the breed. My family has had great experience with the fierce loyalty. Although small it it fearless and agile. They are incredibly tough to the elements, and protect property, flock and person. Great video I understand your placement of the dog breeds, we have a staffie/rhodesian ridgeback mix and she would defend anyone in the family no matter what happens to her, since quite a few ppl consider staffies pit bulls I agree with your placement although I would still put the doberman as my #1 I just think they are all about the defence of their owners, that's my opinion anyway but the put bull/staffie would be my #2 placement for sure 🐕♥️

My German Shepherd is 12 months old and 90 lbs. His protective instincts have been apparent since 5 or 6 months old. He loves my children and grandchildren, but strangers will not only not come in my yard, they put plenty of distance between them and the yard fence. The boy is scary to the unknown.

Like this list! Should make one for medium and small dogs too, I’ve been around blueheelers, aussies, collies, jackrussells, catahoulas, etc. that are just as loyal and fierce as these bigger breeds. (They don’t get as much attention though because they aren’t as big)

Αlthough I generally agree with your lists, here I have to argue a bit. We have a tangible example of Morocho, the Dogo Argentino who saved 2 young girls from Puma attack, and instead of Dogos being first on the list, by far, they are nowhere.

If your pitbull is true to type then he will welcome all. They are not protection or guard dogs it was bred out of there nature in the pit. It would be dangerous to teach a dog like this to be human aggressive.

Hey Zeke, love your platform and I’m guilty of watching but only subscribed now, I absolutely love dogs but haven’t had exposure to many, that said the breed that I’m in love with, the BOERBOL, have a hard time with them not being on this list, many on this list I’m convinced would not stand between you and a bear, lion or hyena, this is not criticism, just from my research he should be on this list if not at the top keep up the good work and look forward to more thanks

I've owned many American Pitties and what he said is vary true they are some of the most loving goofballs i have ever seen, they love to make you laugh and will do anything for their family, they can make good companions and Guardians for kids but you have to work with them and teach them to be gentle because as a breed they don't understand just how strong they are and work with your kids to teach them how to treat dogs because eventhough this dog breed so Quite tolerant it will not tolerate mistreatment. To this dog breed their humans are the center of their world.
