Honking your horn at someone that is distracted on your phone shouldn't be illegal. I saw a video on Facebook yesterday of a motorcyclist honking his horn at a car at a roundabout, who wasn't moving when they should have been, and it turned out to be a police officer who yelled at him for 6 minutes. I don't understand how people can get so offended by a car horn. Sure, it's loud. But that doesn't justify you being on your phone or some other scenario. It's the silliest thing ever. Remove the horn and replace it with a bubble gun if that's the case. Just my thoughts on that.

A good law in a few states is requiring you to move a lane over for cars/emergency vehicles that are on the side of the road. Some states also require that if you aren't doing at least the speed limit in the passing lane you need to move to the right.

In my country here in Europe there is a really cool feature on traffic lights : just before green light goes off it blinks three times before it turns yellow and then red. What is cool about this is the thing that i am informed on time when the green light is going to cut off and turn red so i can start braking on time so i don't pass on yellow and potentially crash or hit someone even though it is legal to pass on yellow.
@DaBigDirtyNasty

My motto is, if you are the first person to fully stop at a yellow light, you could have made it.
@isaiahleach1604
@isaiahleach1604 7 жыл бұрын
the law is, if you can safely stop at a yellow light then you must, if it isn't safe for you to come to a stop before entering the intersection then go.
@zzanatos2001
@zzanatos2001 8 жыл бұрын
One could make the argument that they honked their horn to "warn another driver" that they were impeding traffic (which is also a ticketable offense). You can also fight red light camera tickets if you can show that the system was not functioning properly or traffic conditions forced you to enter the intersection while the light was red (like when a responding fire truck or ambulance pulls up behind you while you're sitting at a red light). Also - if your face is not visible in a red light camera ticket, you can always claim that you were not the driver (this is a common defense for motorcyclists who wear helmets). Other laws that people break all the time is changing lanes in an intersection and changing lanes while turning.
@Kartkid024
@Kartkid024 6 жыл бұрын
To add on to number 8, the way you worded it is misleading. Yes it is legal if you are still in the intersection after it turns red, however that isn't to say that you have till the moment it turns red to get into the intersection. The law in every state still says that if it turns yellow and you can safely stop, you have to stop. So even if you do get into it while it's yellow and it turns red while your still in it, you can still be ticketed.

I did that driving through Kansas in heavy rain. I couldn't see a foot in front of me. My GPS told me where all the twists and turns on the highway were. Another tip: Some states allow you to wait in the middle of an intersection for a better chance to turn across. In CA many drivers legally enter the intersection waiting to turn left until the light turns yellow, oncoming traffic stops, and they can complete there turn before the cross traffic gets a green. This is actually illegal in many other states. In my home state of TN you cannot legally enter an intersection unless you can safely travel through and complete your turn! If a cop sees you sitting in the middle of the light with your blinker on he can ticket you.

I typically count to 5 then honk if someone hasn't started moving when the light turns green at a red light. Majority of the time, people start moving when I get to four. Some lights are way too quick to change back to red to be waiting for someone to remember they have a destination to get to.

AFAIK Number 8 is only illegal when the car is slow to stationary(i.e. traffic) in most areas. If you're passing through yellow and it turns red half way through, it generally doesn't mean anything unless you're in an area with red light cameras which already abuse the timings for extra revenue (thankfully those are becoming illegal).

Thanks for giving me this information, I did not know I was breaking 3 laws (Hazards/ honking/ headlights in the rain ). There is no need to stop for 3 seconds at a stop sign, just make sure you feel that 'snap-back' effect on your head of stopping to show that you actually came to a full stop. Often cops hang out at stop signs and give away a ton of tickets to 'rolling stop' offenders.

My mom suffers from parking rage. If someone nearly crashes her car or takes her parking spot,middle fingers are raised. Also,if you tailgate her,she will probably brake and accelerate so you piss your pants. That and when she drives me to school,yellow means accelerate and red means turn.

UK is more relaxed on laws a bit like #6 is never punished because cops do it as well and #8 is relaxed because if it is yellow you can pass through if you think you have time but if it goes red whilst crossing the lights it isn't worth a ticket as you already passed the lights. Only exception is a designated box where cars can't stop and they have to either remain behind the lights or move into a different lane to open up space

2:57 - 3:12. In the UK this would be considered as "Driving without due care and attention" as you are holding a mobile device whilst incharge of a vehicle (even though you are stationary) traffic is moving around you, and you will be required to move again as soon as the traffic lights turn green or the road is clear for you to carry on with your journey. Due care and attention is a big thing in the UK, and if you were involved in an accident /incident, even talking in to your screen mounted camera could be taken into account + depending on where it is attached to the windscreen, you could be pulled for "Construction and use" regulations, IE: it could be seen as distracting or obstructing your view through the windscreen, which also renders it an M.O.T failure which in turn invalidates your insurance.
@Atlec-j9y
@Atlec-j9y 8 жыл бұрын
It's very easy to get out of a red light ticket. For red light cameras to be enforceable, there has to be a sign that shows their presence. While most intersections have signs, you can't prove that the sign was up and visible usually when you got the ticket. This has been the standard defense for the tickets in Kansas City anyway.

"Reasonable and prudent" = "A cop in a bad mood can ruin your day." Seriously, though, reasonable and prudent goes both ways -- if the traffic is moving at, say, 70, and the speed-limit is 55, you are *not* being reasonable and prudent by forcing everyone behind you to slow down to 55. You are just as likely to cause an accident doing that, as you are by driving 55 when traffic is only moving at 40 because of weather conditions or congestion.

the car being on doesn't necessarily matter in the DUI case, generally the intent to drive is enough, so things like just being in the drivers seat or having the key in the ignition can get you a DUI

it is actually illegal to undertake in some areas in America in general (that includes Canada, US and Mexico), for those that dont know what undertaking is, it is passing on the right or left depending on what side of the road you drive on (depending on the country) so for example in the UK undertaking would be passing on the left. but like many of these laws named im sure it is not enforced as some of the laws named well at least 1 is ridiculous. if the cop feels like you are tailgating he can ticket you. where i live (Canada) you're supposed to drive 2 seconds behind another driver's rear bumper. so lets say the car ahead passes a feature in the road ahead well by the time they are done passing it should take you 2 seconds to pass it aswell. in many cases Police wont enforce it as it is not really a problem but if they see you are being erratic and all that you can bet your ass they will be coming to right you a ticket

I used my caution lights while driving once because I had awful leg cramps in both of my legs after hiking a high mountain. I wanted to pull over but there was no shoulder.

The first one (at least where i'm from) you can be given a DUI if you were in the car with the keys INSIDE the car REGARDLESS if it's turned on. So if you were sleeping in your car while under the influence, you can be given a DUI if the keys were in your pocket. Legally you're supposed to store the keys somewhere outside the car.

They recommend being at least 2-4 seconds behind the car in front of you. 1 mile per hour is about 1.4 feet per second, so 50 miles per hour would be about 70 feet per second, and you can calculate your following distance by picking a sign or pole next to the car in front of you and counting how long it takes you to reach it.

#8,, in my county (Riverside, CA) so many people have fought the red light camera shot ticket (and won) that it was costing the city too much money to keep them running, so they literally took all of them down. It was good attempt to prevent people from running the red lights but it wasn't really effective as people found a loophole in the system.

The first one, even if your car isn't on. If the keys are in the ignition, you can get a DUI. You can chill in the car, as long as the keys are not in the ignition.

The fact that its illegal to use your hazards is incredible for me. Im from Spain and here you must use your hazzards whenever you make a turn. I'm always using it while driving, and when someone don't use it, drivers get very angry

In Albania you have to keep your headlights 24/7. Night and day and it doesn't matter the weather even in a sunny summerday you have to keep them on🤣🤣 Ps: the fine most times it's pretty expensive in comparison with the midrange salary

Regarding number 1 in many states the keys don't even have to be in the ignition. if the keys are within your reach and you are in the backseat you can still get charged with a DUI. it may or may not hold up in court but you can get charged.

#4 is the most idiotic trash ever. It's the same in Germany. #6 does seem like the US laws are pretty inconsiderate of *actually* getting to where you're going. And #8 is just pointless. I wasn't aware the American road laws were that backwards.

#6 I'd say that's an emergency. If a car is stopped in moving traffic, it could very well cause an accident. My more childish side says to hit said person, with witnesses who saw her stopped at a green light as I hit her to see what the cop says. Odds are, it's her fault. You CAN NOT be stopped for no reason in moving traffic. It's illegal. Just like if you rear end someone while texting. It's the same thing. Careless operation. Now don't honk at the person 2 seconds after the light turns green, but after 5 seconds, you're getting honked at. Because if I get hit, I'm the one who gets injured because of someone's carelessness. If I could be physically hurt, that's an emergency.

You are required to run a red light if it is the only way for an emergency vehicle with sirens running to get through. I see a ton of people these days that sit there and completely block fire engines or police.
