@jae98436 жыл бұрын
Funny thing is that looking at expenditure/income ratio doesn't even tell the whole story about how potentially insignificant $100k is to someone who makes $42M. In practical terms, it's almost immeasurably insignificant compared to a person making $42k spending $100 because there's such a universe-sized disparity in raw disposable income between to the two. To someone bringing home $42k/yr, losing $10k to a bad investment might be pretty crippling and set them back years on their goals.A loss like that could mean no family vacation or no new car that was on the horizon. On the other hand, while a $10M personal loss would still be devastating even to someone bringing home $42M/yr, they still have 32M reasons why their lifestyle or medium-term financial outlook probably won't take any practical hit. Plus, they have the resources to make that money back if they so choose. Someone making $42k/yr and who just lost $10k probably doesn't begin to have that kind of buffer, relatively speaking.

Dave is spot on (on a similar topic, the sky is blue ;) ). We started using cash and a debit card only. If/When we go out to eat, I am VERY aware of pricing. But more importantly, when grocery shopping, I grab exactly what is on my list and try to snag the generic brand options. Far less waste and cost. But the point is as I'm looking for my items, I'm very aware about how much each item costs, as well as the approximate running total. When we scan the items at the self checkout line, my wife was semi-impressed as I rattled off the price of nearly every item just before we scanned it. 3 of 4 items were to the penny.

Dave, I started listening to you about 3 months ago. Now I'm not a perfect Ramseyite, but I've been living by your advice since I was 23 now 27 without realizing it. I do use credit cards, however I've never spent a dime on it without knowing my checking account balance. I've watched all of my dollars. I have no debt, and I'm living at home still to have a bigger home down payment. I need a new car, but honestly, I'd rather buy the repair than finance the new car. Finding your show has assured me I'm doing the right thing. I'm surrounded by people who tell me to just take student loans, put it on the card, or use other people's money to finance my life. Thank you for being the proof. I have $10,500 in my roth, and my brothers keep telling me I'm the fool for trusting the market. When I hit my financial bottom, I decided I'd never let account go below $1000 again. Years later my account has always had 4 months. I'm proud to say I discovered this on my own. It's so important.

The guy who tweeted about Jay Z was clearly just salty and YES, entitled. Jay Z's money doesn't mean he is entitled to earn more. Also, Dave didn't mention this, but 42 million/year is JUST Jay's money. His wife earns about the same.

And his master or his boss is worth in the trillions. Jay Z is just a corporate asset and can loose everything just like Michael Jackson did in a matter of seconds. He also in debt and I would imagine his house is worth more than his salary

Dave I believe in giving. I have been a single dad for 25 years. Now that I have recovered from child support and getting my kids out of college with no debt I pay the check and tip for single dad’s trying to take his kids out to eat. I struggled every weekend to do something for my kids. Now I can do do for others.

Jay-Z paid off a lot of other people's bills in one night. And a 11k tip is charitable giving.

Some people think someone else's money came out of your pocket. It didn't. When someone says they want to make a lot of money, I always say, you don't have to go make money, they make plenty of money, you just need to be smart and disciplined and hang onto the money that you come across. Working hard, being smart, changing jobs when you need to, etc. are big factors, but it's more important to be smart with what you have. I get excited by other people's successes, because it reminds me that I can have that success, as well!
