@@XenophonSoulis well, if details like that mattered, Schumacher got beaten by a crippled 39 year old Piquet. And Piquet also managed to win in that car, whilst Schumacher's best finish was 4th if I'm not mistaken. So.... Those kinds of details certainly doesn't matter. Nico beat Schumacher back to back, all 3 years. Nico beat Hamilton 1 time in 4 years and Button beat Hamilton 1 time in 3 years while the same Button beat Alonso 1 time in 2 years. So yeah, Nico was blazing fast, Hamilton was faster. Button was not as fast but was consistent. Hamilton wasn't, but he's now. And Schumacher could very well beat Rosberg if he was younger, but we'll never know. Just like we'll never know how badly Schumacher would be beaten by a young, aggressive and fearless Piquet. I guess to a pulp. Same thing if we think about Prost, or even worse, Senna.
@XenophonSoulis3 жыл бұрын
@@DimitriMoreira Well, that isn true but forced. In the 5 races they were together, Schumacher got 4 points, while Piquet got 4.5 and of the three occasions they both finished Schumacher finished higher than Piquet in 2. That was after an engine failure cost Schumacher another points finish which would have put him in front of Piquet. Also, the win of Piquet came in a race where 6 out of the 7 people in front of him retired and the other one had gearbox issues (that includes all 5 drivers that finished higher than Piquet in the season). It was just as lucky as Gasly's victory last year. Apart from that, we must mention that Rosberg had already 4 years of experience before going against Schumacher, while Schumacher had 1 race of experience before going against Piquet. Also, not every driver is in the same form in the same years. For example, Vettel got his championships much younger than Hamilton on average, but he looks a bit out of shape today. Apart from that, 5 races (the time Schumacher and Piquet were in the same team) is a joke of sample. Anything can happen in 5 races, especially in the current era (I include 1991 in that, as opposed to smaller seasons in the 50s-60s), where 5 races aren't even a third of a season. Finally, if we start comparing who would have beaten whom with drivers of different eras or in hypothetical scenarios, we will just lose our time. We can just compare drivers in the same team and in their current age (until AI gets so advanced that it can mimic exactly the driving style of a driver that is).

Magnussen is a peculiar guy. In some Danish interviews, which I have the privilege of understanding, being a Dane, he expressed some feelings about F1: Veteran F1 drivers have a biased view of racing 'justice', believing that younger drivers have a duty to leave them a gap for overtaking, to behave almost as if they are blue flagged and must give the position, while at the same time, believe that they have the right to close windows that have people inside them, that defending dangerously is okay for them to do. This deeply frustrates him, because he has no intention of giving positions. He will fight to the very edge, and use every dirty trick that he has ever seen, because this is the only way to win. You have to be okay with potentially crashing and dying in your car to be competitive. This was during his time was Haas. Perhaps it's also a bit of a comment on their car.

The fact that K-Mag scored his first podium on his debut is beautiful, but it'd be his only podium ever in formula 1 is sad. Those haas years dented his reputation as a fast and smart driver. Giancarlo Baghetti, his debut performance is the only example where it's correct to say "he won his first Grand Prix," making his debut in France, 1961, and he finished in P1

Many respects for Johnny Herbert. I always admire "the golden boy" for his skill to drive, even in midfielder cars. Considering his crash (I think he could be WC someday), it's incredible the career he did and also, winning Le Mans with Mazda. Simply, a great driver.

McLaren has history of destroying young drivers. Just ask Kovaleinen, Checo, VanDorne and Kmag
@ChrisMcLaren6664 жыл бұрын
@@TheUlrikkaul Kovalainen was shite. Failed in every team he went to. Checo ended up in a better team for 2015/16/17/18 to prove he's worthy of a top team. Same for Magnussen. Vandoorne had a good first season and was, indeed, confirmed for 2018, then he destroyed his own career with poor results. Awful actually. McLaren is not a charity team, if you're slow you're out like in every other team.

To see that F3 crash at Brands Hatch is really horrifying especially when they're going high-speed down the hill. But for Herbert to pull off in that race whilst in excruciating pain is just unbelievable. Well done Herbert 👏.

I'm so glad I met Johnny Herbert. the guy is friendly on the exterior, but much like Ricciardo, is hella tough on the inside. And he won le mans like 3 times? And the guy has been in my kitchen, bought a mini cooper classic off my dad. Insane.

Never seen Herbert's F3000 crash before. Forget about getting to F1, I'm simply amazed he still has feet of any sort! Same story with Brundle who nearly had his foot removed in Dallas. Both of their F1 careers were noticeaby hindered by injuries with irreparable limitations. What could've been for Johnny except for just 1 sole win...

RoGro actually has speed, and I mean SERIOUS speed, but only on his good day. From what I remember he faced some psychological issues so this may have affected him a lot... But given the right motivation (and help) I still think he has that speed... But for the time being, he should stay as a test driver in F1, and try to get a full-time drive in another form of motorsport, who knows, he may do much better elsewhere
