I get why some younger fans or people starting to watch F1 get that misconception about Alonso. The score metric has changed, also the number of races on the calendar, but no one can deny that Alonso became champion twice on an era dominated by Ferrari and Schumacher.

Yes, the Numbers never do justice. If you think about it, 7 wins out of 15 its basically half of the races in year in wins. Was also against Schumacher and other Legends. Ferrari was unstoppable between 2000-05. I remember my dad starting to watch the Race and turning off after 20min many Times because he knew schumacher was going to win. Also 2014 wasn't garbage I think it was another great season (in terms of driving abilities), he outperformed that infamous oversteer and understeer car; he got the triple of points than Raikkonen and got two podiums nearly winning a race.

That was where he really did shine, and given better machinery could’ve grabbed 3 or 4 more championships.

The 2012 car was not a championship caliber car. After Germany, Felipe Massa was P14 with 23 points. Fernando was leading the championship with 154. To Felipe's defense, while he would qualify no better than P3 at Monza, Fernando only had 3 front row starts, including 2 Poles. It's almost unheard of for someone with that qualifying record fighting for the World Championship.
