I get why some younger fans or people starting to watch F1 get that misconception about Alonso. The score metric has changed, also the number of races on the calendar, but no one can deny that Alonso became champion twice on an era dominated by Ferrari and Schumacher.
@pedrosilvaproductions26 күн бұрын
Yes, the Numbers never do justice. If you think about it, 7 wins out of 15 its basically half of the races in year in wins. Was also against Schumacher and other Legends. @@sandalphoncpu in 2005 Ferrari fell and was only able to scratch a win in the infamous US grand prix. In 2006 however, Schumacher was able to fight for the championship and Alonso had it very rough against him specially in the second half of the season. Eventually Alonso managed to win

Fernando between 2010-2012 was wild. Car was like 3rd fastest all szn and was still fighting for a championship. Rarely does the second fastest car fight for a championship, it’s 90% of the time the fastest, let alone the 3rd fastest lol

@ I would agree with 2009, and potentially 2013, but that 2014 Ferrari was straight garbage, even he couldn’t perform in it. Still out performed the car, but it was so bad that it’s genuinely hard to judge.
@JorgeMoreno9213 күн бұрын
@@zLusso I will include 2008, he was the driver who score most of the points in the second half of the season when the Renault got better upgrades. Also 2014 wasn't garbage I think it was another great season (in terms of driving abilities), he outperformed that infamous oversteer and understeer car; he got the triple of points than Raikkonen and got two podiums nearly winning a race.
@zLusso13 күн бұрын
@@JorgeMoreno92 well yeah that’s the issue, the Ferrari was garbage. And it’s hard to note the performances really since the car was so dog shit. That’s why I don’t include 2014. End of 2008 I somewhat agree, but I feel like it does his true prime injustice because it wasn’t nearly impressive as his 2009-2013 era. That was where he really did shine, and given better machinery could’ve grabbed 3 or 4 more championships.
@NotSteveCook3 күн бұрын
The 2012 car was not a championship caliber car. After Germany, Felipe Massa was P14 with 23 points. Fernando was leading the championship with 154. To Felipe's defense, while he would qualify no better than P3 at Monza, Fernando only had 3 front row starts, including 2 Poles. It's almost unheard of for someone with that qualifying record fighting for the World Championship.

For anyone who wasnt around during Alonso's prime, lets put it in context: he was immediately fast, immediately great, but probably tge 4th fastest driver on the grid. This video is full of inaccuracies. It highlights how good Alonso is at qualifying, something which he himself denies. Alonso isn't the best at anything, but he is the best overall. For example, Lewis was a better qualifyier than him in 2007, but Alonso was better at reading the race, consistency at race pace and hardened mentality. The video talks about his driving style being "beauty, smooth and precise" (2:50), but his driving style has always been aggresive and almost violent, known to adapt his driving style to the tires or the car attitude (abulafiaf1.wordpress.com/2012/03/11/driving-styles-part-a-an-introduction-and-fernando-alonso/), in contrast for example with Kimi, known to be a very sensitive driver that can make a car shine if the car suits his style or be crap if it doesn't.
