Apologies if I have said this before, but IMHO Surtees was one of the most underrated champions. *Seven* bike GP world championships (only 2 less than Valentino Rossi!), including *three* consecutive doubles (ie both won in the same year - usually racing 2 or more bikes a day. Check out Agostini for his similar but even greater 2-wheeled career) in 350 & 500 CCs between '58-'60; *six* Isle of Man TT races (including the seniors), and an outstanding F1 driver & champion. 🏆 Yet, how often does he appear in any motorsports "top 10 list"? All of this was done during the incredibly dangerous period of the 50s-60s when he outlived many of his colleagues. I'm *so* glad he was mentioned in this list, but it's not a given that he ever will be mentioned again in any future list. Arguably one of the greatest motorsports competitors of all time given his wide-ranging successes. The saddest thing was him outliving his son, Henry, who had himself been showing a lot of promise, during this, the safest time so far to drive, but just before the halo which would most likely have saved him. 😢 Had John still been alive, you can be certain that he would have been ready, willing and able to comfort Antoine Hubert's grief-stricken family. 😣

Kobayashi in his first race in F1 at Brazil. It was supposed to be a one-off because he was a Toyota raised driver and they were retiring from the sport that year. No fear of sticking elbows even against title contender Button. I think that race alone got him a F1 seat the year after.

Seb's Toro Rosso was actually pretty quick at Monza that weekend. His teammate, Sebastian Bourdais qualified 4th but stalled on the grid, stranding him one lap down all race. Vettel still dominated and crushed them all during the race.

Hamilton doesn't fit in this at all, he drove the best car on the grid, but I understand that you should mention him, Schumi, Senna or Vettel in every single video ...

It wasnt the best car .... were you watching in 2007?
@marekmasopust39984 жыл бұрын
john cale Yes I remember it pretty well, I've rewatched it many times. McLaren was better than Ferrari, they've screwed it because of those complicated relationships inside the team. Have they not been DSQ they would have wom WCC.

I agree, there were many more breakthrough performances by other drivers. But I don't really get it, if they included Lewis' debut, then where is Jacques Villeneuve's one? He also had his first race in the best car of the field, but he got the pole, led the race until the last laps, when an engine problem slowed him down and Hill won the race. I don't understand why Jacques' debut is not on the list if they icluded Lewis' one.
@MT-pv2rf4 жыл бұрын
Hamilton doesn't belong on any list as far as the haters are concerned Its truly pathetic. He went toe to toe with the reigning 2xWDC. What more is he supposed to do? Any other rookie would have been beaten into submission with Alonso's notorious off track politics but Hamilton beat him at his own game, on and off the track, made Alonso run away from the team, like the coward that he is, and then became champion in the car that Alonso ran away from. Imagine a rookie doing that to Senna or Schumacher? Its a complete humiliation, so yes, Hamilton does belong on every list involving exceptional rookie talents, as he the greatest rookie in F1 history. As for who had the best car, it was a season where the cars were relatively equal over the course of the year. There was no dominant team, and, actually, most people think the Ferrari must have been the better car considering how crap Massa and Raikkonen have been over the years since then.
@HateCrewReaper4 жыл бұрын
I'm not saying anyone of these breakthroughs doesn't belong, but I think getting pole on your first ever grand prix followed by what should have been a race win but ended being a 2nd place finish due to a hydraulic hose failure is breakthrough worthy!

Still clearly remember Italy 2008. I was on the Sunday at a friend’s birthday party and unfortunately missed the first half of the race. I managed to get home for the final half and remember my jaw dropped when the Toro Rosso won. From that day on Vettel became my favourite driver and a driver I still very much have as a one of my favourites.

I wish we would've seen Lewis start somewhere else, just to see how he would've coped with a bottom or mid-table team instead of coming into a top 3 team his rookie season
@Krwler4 жыл бұрын
I would say he coped pretty well as a rookie considering he was at a team that sacked you for not performing at a consistently world class level (just ask Magnussen and Perez) and the fact his team mate was double reigning champion Alonso who had just seen off Schumacher (ask Vandoorne what that's like). There are only a handful of drivers in F1 history who would've survived Hamilton's first season let alone achieve what he did.
