I'm sensing a lot of blame (or credit) being placed on Gordonstoun's role in shaping how Charles became. That is only one piece of the puzzle. Looking at Dr. Hahn and that school's pedagogy, a lot is placed on self-discovery, outdoor activities, and personal responsibility for your actions. This seemed to have worked wonders for Prince Philip and positively developing the man he grew up to be. But you have to keep in mind that Prince Philip was never set to become a king in his lifetime. Prince Charles had a completely different temperament than most heirs apparent. The rigor of Gordonstoun may have instilled in him some great qualities, but Charles has also had to deal with the pressures of living up to the ideal of being a king-in-waiting. He couldn't express views (like sympathy for Wales) without getting admonished by the family. He couldn't marry his first choice at the time. I AM NOT excusing his treatment of Princess Diana. I'm just saying blaming all of Charles' faults on Gordonstoun is a stretch. Granted, you have to wonder how much differently he would have turned out going to Eton College, his first choice school.

My favorite line, from the character Tommy Lascelles: "your sister's fiancé is conducting three affairs... and those are just the natural ones." Imagine your next job interview and you find yourself face to face with Lascelles; he might say, " This resume says you left Best Buy in 2003 on mutual good terms, but that wasn't the case. There was the slushee incident in the break room that forced your resignation. This post may sound inviting, but you're not going to take it."

@@jamesmason8436 Because season 3 covers 13 years. The Queen and Prince Phillip were in the 40s and early 50s during season 3. So by the middle of the season the previous actors would be too young to play their counterpart roles. And it would be weird to change them midseason. Olivia Colman and Tobias Menzies were 45 at the time. So they're perfect for the roles, age-wise.

Diana might have had some say about that - at least in William’s case. What the Crown doesn’t mention is Andrew and Edward also went to Gourdenston (however it’s spelled). At the time Princess Anne was in school they didn’t accept females but she sent both of her children there. Charles might have been bullied wherever he went. Not only was he a Prince and the heir to the throne, he was something of a dreamer and thanks to his grandmother (definitely not his parents) spoiled. Facts are facts- probably every child that ever went to any school has at least one person that bullied them and made their life hell.

I don't think JFK was quite as gauche as portrayed. He was educated at Choate and Harvard College. His father was US Ambassador to the Court of St. James from 1938-1940 so he was no stranger to court life. And his sister was the Marquess of Hartlington. He may not have been quite as sycophantic and obsequious as the British courtiers may have liked, but he was the President of the United States, the head of state, and very much the equal of the Queen.

An error they missed: in DEAR MRS, KENNEDY, Elizabeth is seen coming into the room to hear news of the JFK assassination in daylight. It was late November, and 12:30 in Dallas, therefore it 18:30 in London (it would have been dark). More, it seems as if a lot of time passed between the Queen learning of the shooting, and she is next scene in her night clothes learning of his death. In fact, JFK was dead by 19:30 London time, and it seems unlikely that she would already be in her jim-jams. More, it shows JFK drinking hard liquor. JFK has a terrible stomach for almost his entire life; while he did drink a bit, and mixed drinks, he was hardly a drinker of bourbon or scotch or whiskey. (In fact, neither JFK nor RFK were drinkers. Teddy, however, made up for both of them.)

In the scene, she called Phillip's mother a "hun nun." She showed up to the wedding as a nun, and she was of German origin. In WWI, the Germans were called Huns by the British. (The scene is ironic. Tbh as a Brit and Royalist I was quite offended by the amount of misinformation throughout all 3 seasons, so far. At times I found it downright upsetting. Especially the scene where our Queen makes an awfully insensitive speech to auto workers at a Jaguar Factory in ‘56. It simply never happened and there is no way our Queen would exercise such a degree of misjudgement. Brilliant show, very entertaining and I will watch every season still to be released, however there should be a disclaimer at the beginning which states about 50% of the show is either guess work or put there for dramatic effect. I did like the episode in season 3 about the Aberfan mining disaster in Wales. It was very accurate and done sensitively, with actual relatives of victims and survivors included in the production and even offered counselling after production.

Great show. But Ms Mojo gets some things wrong. Prince Philip did cheat, many times, as the Royal family predicted he would, that’s why they attempted to break up the couple (with the tour), because they thought he was too worldly & unstable for the innocent Elizabeth. Anthony Armstrong Jones was definitely sexually involved with both of the Fry’s, he has a daughter from that relationship who has taken a genetic test and has given many interviews. Don’t know about Lord Altrincham. Prince Charles himself said that Gordonston was a nightmare and since he didn’t send his own kids there, that’s proof that he didn’t think much of their methods. President Kennedy was definitely on a cocktail of drugs and had been known to drug women (read the memoir of his former intern, it’s disturbing and enlightening). He had Addison’s disease and was put on hormonal therapy, testosterone, which also revved up his libido. Jackie Kennedy did make some remarks about the Royals and their dilapidated palace but, as far as I know, she never apologized for that. She was a very forward thinking modern woman and found England to be backward, stuck in outdated tradition and generally stale, musty & pathetic. The duke & Duchess of Windsor did visit Nazi Germany and hung out with Hitler, but not because they were Nazi sympathazers, but because they were so very very stupid and so full of themselves and Hitler gave them attention & recognition, which they so desperately craved. And since we’re going back to Philip’s infidelity, yes he cheated many times but the palace definitely denies it ever happened. I mean, what did you expect them to do?

Not everybody is familiar with the UK royal especially younger viewers ( less than 40) from outside the UK & so to them the crown series is just another netflix show. If a person is new to this show - yes there are spoilers :)

It's not mixed 😂 The "Formative" and "the man he is today" comments from Gordensten aren't that much of an argument that he had a good time just that it shaped him like any school to any person. If he went to Eton for example he'd probably be a slightly different person.

I for once don't believe Charles was bullied quite the opposite showing how he treated Diana. And it's unbelievable his mother the queen would tolerate that and wouldn't he be surrounded by guards.

Oh, I believe it indeed. Prince Charles grew up to be a bit of a bully himself. And *no one bullies people better* than a former bullied individual. I've had plenty of real life evidence of that.

Disappointed with season 2 overall, a couple of good episodes, but not a patch on season 1. Claire Foy/Matt Smith excellent and most of the cast very well acted, the actor who portrayed JFK was shockingly bad imo. I'd give it 6/10. Season 1 9/10. Season 3 not interested.

@srabontikhanshashi380
@srabontikhanshashi380 3 жыл бұрын
That was not a picture of a bride. It was a picture of a ballet dancer that Elizabeth found in Philip's briefcase in season 1 which started her doubts that he might be cheating on her.She never confronted him regarding this in season 1 but in season 2 last episode she showed that picture implying that she knows about this.

Leo Edekere I think the bigger issue is that the dance was not (and is not) relevant at all to African politics. It did nothing to shift the power of western vs soviet influence, the effect of Elizabeth's trip was blown very much out of proportion. I'm not really sure why they chose to include it to be honest

Why are you protecting him by being modest about his nazi involvement? Edward plotted to overthrow his brother and reclaim the thrown. He advocated the bombardment of london. Wallis had a sexual relationship with a nazi officer WHILE being with then King Edward, and the government became so concerned about Edward they were forced to keep certain documents out of his daily red box. Amongst many other things. If he had got his way or stayed on the thrown britain would be a VERY different place today! He was a traitor, but thank god for it because we got the present Queen's father instead. He was amazing. Watch the King's Speech. Count your blessings!

The way they portraied Germany amused me a bit. Of course the could not film at the real Marburg castle, but the could have at least tried to find a stand-in that looked somewhat similar. Darmstadt never looked like the quaint bavarian town it was portraied as and a flight from Frankfurt to Belgium does not take you anywhere near the Alps. All of that was not really a big thing, but the "Germany is Bavaria" trope is rather overused. And slightly annoying to me, as a north-western german. We do not even like the bavarians.
