"Stick to the status quo" showed that students who tried to go outside of their designated "roles" were socially punished. It's a very mild form of "forbidden" that applies to kids + teens because, to them, that social pressure is a very strong and relatable feeling. I mean, re-watching the video--Lindy and Jake were "forbidden" because their schools were rivals, Francesca and Diego were "forbidden" because of their friends, Sam and Rebecca were also "forbidden" because of their friends, Sonny and Chad were forbidden because of their friends/their shows' rivalry Nothing "really" is keeping these other characters apart, either. There isn't a disapproving parent or outright threat (like Addison being kicked off the cheer team), but the social pressure and possible consequences of upsetting/disappointing their friends/social groups is enough to make these romances "forbidden." The pressure of their cliques WAS what made them forbidden, because everyone around them disapproved of their relationship and they had to keep it secret because of that

Yeah I can understand that both franchise’s are different from each other but as you guys said there’s also lots of similarities. I guess it wasn’t really a rip off, but more of a timing issue. Descendants came out 2 years after ever after high and I guess kids grafted more towards the movies, and that’s not necessarily Disney’s fault. But the concepts are definitely similar and maybe Disney drew inspiration from the show.

The movie, Wet Side Story (1962) from Teen Beach Movie, is based on West Side Story (1961), which is based on Romeo and Juliet (Shakespeare; I like the 1968 version with Olivia and Leonard (the dude who looks like Troy Bolton from High School Musical)) Lela and Tanner are one of my favorite (if not my favorite) couple in the entries Disney universe.
