I think my fav Countdown blooper was when Carol had to do the letters round. The letters were P, O and O, and that already got her giggling. Then she was asked for a consonant that turned out to be an F. At that point, they all lost it and must have thought to themselves “screw this, we’ll start over” 😂

I saw an interview with the Countdown production team once. If the F-word or the S-word just happened to come up during a letters game, they would stop right there and redo the round. If it was possible to make the F-word or S-word out of the letters, they would play the round and make a decision on whether to keep it in, or redo it before going onto the next round.

I worked out the 500 one straight away! Its easy, all you do is 8+2=10. X that 10 by 10 =100. Times that by 50 = 5000. 7 + 3 = 10. Divide the 5000 by this 10 and boom. 500.

You are right. Baulk line is indeed a snooker/pool term (where the green, brown and yellow are situated at the start of a frame). Unfortunately it's two words and the conundrum (itself a misnomer - it's simply an anagram) on Countdown has to be one nine letter word. They were trying to trick everyone. Hope this is helpful.
