Doune Castle (Winterfell) was used in the very first season episode 1. Also Monty Python Holy Grail and Ivanhoe among others too. It was 500-700 metres from my house growing up. I used to play there in the early 80s before it was as big a tourist attraction. I remember the sand pit near by too. God memories I used see it everyday going to Doune nursery and primary school.

I live in Croatia, in it's capital city, Zagreb, but since 2015 I visit Dubrovnik every winter and summer and walk around, searching for locations which were used in Game of Thrones. I love my country, and I love Game of Thrones, so living in Croatia is truly a win-win.

if you decide to go to dubrovnik i can also suggest going to the island lokrum which is a 15 minute boat ride they also shot a few scenes there. besides its breath taking also the bunnies are cute and the peacock males are beautifull

Pro tip: Don't actually bother with most of these in peak holiday time, they're overrun with tourists for this very reason. Go to nearby places if you just wanna see the geography or whatever, but otherwise these places are just completely full of loud crowds of people bumping into each other and shit.

Well Joffrey is the blonde boy who's a Lannister and the main antagonist apart from Cersei and Ramsay. Varys isn't blonde he's bald, he the Eunuch but the actor, conleth Hill has blonde hair I guess. Don't know about any try not to get mad but hope this helps. The actor who plays Joffrey is named Jak Gleeson although he doesn't act anymore, gave it up for his university career I believe.

you know, many people speculate that Varys is bold because he is secretly a Blackfyre or Targaryen, to hide his blond hair. Also he is quite evil, he is similar to Littlefinger, but his main targets were mainly Lannisters (Tywin's death and in the books Kevan's death). The difference between those 2 is timing. Varys wanted the chaos to be postponed, when it's a good time for Dany/fAegon to invade. Joffrey is a psychopatic weak kid, that got never a real education and thinks he can do what he wants, because his parents messed up. But he is to stupid to be evil.

I am a bit sad that they didn’t made it to film in any place of my country 🇬🇷 but on the other hand I completely understand why! Meteora monasteries are well, *monasteries* Monks went there to isolate themselves and devote their lives to God. You cannot have crews with cameras and actors to walking around and shooting… I really like that fact that they took inspiration from these unique in the world Orthodox monasteries and this beautiful location🇬🇷 I would like to see a Hellenic landscape in the series but churches and monasteries are out of bounds here!
