Rick Please re make this video - its really misleading to say top 10 irons for this product cycle then including full product lines that aren't even directly related ie the entire titleist lineup.. oh and also it seems a few people are vocalizing their interest in srixon. Rick, Just purchased the Mizuno JPX 900 hot metal. My fitter didn't really suggest them for me either, but after the fitting we found that they were the best for my swing. Thanks for the great content. Keep up the great work.

Curious what you didn’t like about the P770. Just put a set with KBS C Taper Lite X in my bag. Absolutely love the look, and of course they’re not too forgiving, but when you put a good swing on it’s so pure of a feel and a nice ball flight.

I'm a 5 handicap and just switched to the m1 irons from Taylormade Tour preferred CBs. While the feel and distance has taken some getting used to, these clubs have changed my attitude and confidence with irons. Highly recommended.

When I was getting fitted, I tried the Cobra's and I did not like that idea. I ended up getting the Ping G400's during my fitting. It felt the best with a lightweight head and increased my distance on the testing machine over my store bought set of Wilson.

I think the Wilson FG is the best looking club from any angle. Tested at my club range and the 7 iron carry distance in between my current 7&8 TM Speedblades. However, Wilson loft is the same as a modern TM 8 iron and I prefer the flight and feel of the FG forged. Great video Rick.

I can really understand why Rick put the i200s in on #1. I came into the season this spring looking for new irons and I don't typically like the look of PING irons, but these ones looked pretty decent for PING. I am also usually on edge about them because I like very soft feel. My golf coach/fitter set me up with demos of 3 irons that he thought that I would like with the profile that I was looking for. I tried the PING i200, Cobra King Forged Tour, and the Mizuno MP-25. I hit the Cobra and the Mizuno first, and loved the feel of them, which made me think there's no way I'm gonna like going from forged to cast in the i200. I was pleasantly surprised with the i200. I hit about 10 shots with it to start, and my coach noticed that I was hitting them incredibly straight and out of the middle consistently. He and I both thought I was hitting them better than my old RSI 1 irons and better than any iron I have ever hit. After testing for a few more range sessions, I decided that the i200 was the best iron that I have ever hit. It doesn't have the softest feel as others, but to me as long as it performs well and you hit it well, that is a bigger factor. Since I got mine this spring, I have hit the most greens in regulation that I have ever hit, and I am now able to consistently hold a green. Again, Rick I agree with you on your choice for #1. The i200s cater to a HUGE level of golfers, because they are definitely more forgiving than they look. I would also like to add that I have only been playing golf for 2 years, been through 3 seasons and have had lessons from the get go. That being said, I do not strike the ball amazingly every time and if I can hit an iron this size so consistently at my level, I'd say they are pretty good!
@Tomatohater647 жыл бұрын
I liked the Wilson FG Tour V6 irons best of all. Here in Pittsburgh, most places sell 4-PW and a Gap wedge, that's 8 irons in all, for right around a thousand dollars - 125 dollars per iron. I would pony up the money and buy them.

I know I'm am one person in a massive golf world, but I used to play Mizuno MP-4's. I now play Srixon 765's. I WAS one of those die hard "nothing feels like a mizuno" kind of people. Well not anymore! Height, distance, AND feel/forgiveness!!! Just hope they keep dishing these kinds of irons out for years to come!
@Mjwest236 жыл бұрын
Have you tried the MP-18 and MP-18 SC yet? I HIGHLY recommend. I've tried 765 and the MP-18 SC. The MP-18 SC felt even better than the 765 and hit both extremely well. I'll be trying the MP-18 and 965 on Saturday as well and I'm sure those will feel even better. Will probably make a decision between the two and blend them. I've never been a Mizuno or Srixon guy, but I feel like their irons are superior and I'll most likely be bagging one of them.
@pwillemsen10007 жыл бұрын
Really wanted to like the Ping i200 and had good numbers on the launch monitor and the course. However, I had a much tighter dispersion with the taylormade p770s (same shaft). I ended up with a combo set; 4/5 irons in M1 for forgiveness (bent weak for gapping as these clubs fly!) and p770 from 6i to PW. Everybody is different and thus why fitting is so important. What works for one person doesn't necessarily work for the other.

Hi rick. I still play a set of 2010 tm cavity Burner Irons. I get 7 iron right around 163 ... My driver swing speed is about 104 . I've got 6 lessons and my goal is to get more Club head speed. Do you think I need to change shafts or just work on technique. I have 95 gram shafts ... and also have a six iron that is a CB by Titleist. I never filled out that set ... but think the CB may be the best set for me after I get more Club Head speed.

Will be changing irons shortly so this helped me narrow down the options. As a mid (but improving) handicapper I think I will go for either the m1s or the JPX forged: cannot get the srixon's, not prepared to pay for the Epic or PXGs, really dislike the look of the Pings. Apex is another option. Tried them a couple of months ago and stupidly long: probably 15 yards (ie a full club) longer than my old Yonex's - then again the lofts such that the 7i has same loft as my Yonex 6i. Rick: Will you also do a hybrid top 10? Am thinking about carrying 2 hybrids, 5-9i, 4 wedges, driver & 3w.
@pb3xunleashed7 жыл бұрын
It's been a pretty shitty year for irons, with the only sets that appeal to low-mid handicappers being the jpx, the wilsons, and the srixon 765's. Everything else has been focussed on stronger lofts and massively wide toplines and soles. I'll stick with my old Hogan PTX's for another season thanks...
@hamiltonmcnaughton48287 жыл бұрын
Pb3X I agree, you should also consider titleist too. The ap2s and MB's are not exactly meant for high handicappers.....

Problem with the Wilson irons is that you can NOT custom order them. I need about a 3 or 4 degree upright lie angle w/ graphite shafts - and I looked but it seems like you can not custom order them like that. That is a really shame because I would love to order a set of Wilson irons.

@rickshiels - if you were a 6 and your current i25s were awesome when playing twice per week are now not so awesome only playing twice per month. What iron would you play that is NOT a shovel but more forgiving than the i25s? I don't mind med-thich top lines but don't like huge offsets, low-mid offsets ideal and a progressive set a must, easier long irons and less offset short irons. My guess is to try JPX900 Hotmetal, 716AP1, Ping 400, and TM M2? How would you rank those 4 by progressive, over all forgiveness as top 2 needs and feel/looks not as important? Cheers from AZ!!

Rick, Have you tried hitting HONMA irons?
@pdecker7 жыл бұрын
I have a few things to add. 1. I love the look of the Callaway Steelhead Pro irons. I've hit them in a simulator and they feel good too. But, they are no different in size than the non-Pro version. Side by side they are exactly the same size. Sitting behind the ball they do have a thinner top line, which I like. The specs also show them with a 1 degree weaker loft than the non-Pro version, which I also like, and a 1/2 inch longer shaft as standard. Yes, I'm saving my money for a Christmas present. 2. I'd like to see some Bridgestone irons reviewed. They look interesting if a bit expensive. 3. I haven't seen any ball reviews or comparisons. That's a very personal thing, but would still like to see some. Right now I play either Bridgestone B330-RX or TaylorMade Project (a). 4. One more thought. Do some throwback reviews. Hit some old wooden drivers and use a wound ball. It'd be interesting to see your reaction. I'm old enough to have hit those until my twenties. Thanks for the videos. Keep them coming.
