I wouldn't. Seems everybody does that and there is no way they are light years ahead of a lot of the other brands... except in price! Great set up for the review channel launch and we should get to see a lot of testing going on starting with different iron sets. Got to agree with Rick that Cobra is underrated and make exceptional equipment for a great price! Almost went that direction myself but had Cobra's for 20 years... was time to change it up.

Rick, I work as a club fitter and have had the opportunity to test most of the clubs on the market. I think you will be disappointed by the cobra cb. They have a TON of offset for a cb iron, and they feel really firm/clicky. The new srixon zx7 have less offset and still a bit clicky imo. I would recommend looking at the ping i230 with maybe an icrossover or i525 for your driving iron or look at something like a mizuno pro 225 or 223.
@BLKMeSa
@BLKMeSa Жыл бұрын
Agree 100% I played the first-gen ZX7/ZX5 combo, and the i230 feel very muted and soft (close to the ZX7 and way softer than the ZX5). Even after testing the mk.ii ZX irons, the i230s were as forgiving as the ZX5, but felt way better. They are consistent in carry distances, get up in the air easily, and look clean in the bag. Not to mention Ping's custom fitting is second to none. Maybe the only downside is the weak number of included no-upcharge shaft options which do not come close to Mizuno's.

The snow has FINALLY stopped falling, the sun is out, Spring is here, local courses that had to delay opening due to the eternal winter are prepping for a May 1 opening - and I'm going thru my bag as well. First to go? The BAG! So old. And my LW and SW, both SM8's, have only been ok for me. My wedges are usually great. I really need 'great' with those. The rest of the bag is pretty new and stays. Oh, new ball this year. Going back to the ProV1 - Had been using a Chrome Soft the last several years. My son gave me a yellow ProV1 to try, thought I'd like it. I didn't think I'd like it, but i was very wrong. Better ball flight all the way around for me. Great feel on the green putting. Sold. Even the yellow. I enjoy your channel and look forward to the next. . . . . Cheers.

I recommend checking out the Cobra King Tour. I’ve been playing the earlier version, forged FlyZ+, for five years. My lofts are weaker than the new King Tours, back then they were closer to the new Cobra CB’s. Was all set to get some custom Mizunos before I hit them. The feel reminded me of a well-struck blade, which is what I grew up playing.

Love it Rick! A recommendation on the wedges: I run a set PW, and vokey 50, 54, 58 with lower bounce on the 50, mid on the 54, and high on the 58. I really like this gapping for full swing distances and the options on bounce give me a variety of shots around the greens and bunkers.

Good video with great insights as to how you select your clubs. It reminded me of something that happened a month ago. Golfing with my brother - we haven't golfed together for 10 years and he actually gave up the game. Playing down in Phoenix, course way to crowded, we are backed up on a par 3. Talking to the guy in front of us, he has a new, full set of PXGs - got a good deal on them, said he consistently gets 20 to 30 yards more per club. My brother is interested in new clubs because we are both playing 10 to 15 year old equipment - it suits us. So we start watching the PXG guy, based on almost every golf shot he hit, his ball was only going 25-35 yards - watched him clunk two into the water on another par 3. So, just as you have a hard time giving up on old Bluey (3 wood), I play my old clubs because I generally know how they will react. I admire your skill level in actually being able to tell how different clubs react because in my case, it isn't the clubs, its the operator. Will be watching your equipment channel starting in May - thanks for your work.

I understand the reasoning of 14 degrees of bounce in English winter, but not for the Scottish summer links courses. You should get a set of each, depending of where you are playing. No surprise of skinning a 14 degrees bounce wedge when you are on a links course... Have fun tinkering your bag, that is almost as good as playing 😅

Basically, you are saying that you’re keeping all of your clubs for the moment. While it sounds as if you are committed to changing the irons you also seem to have no clear front runner in spite of mentioning that you like the Cobras…..but you must not like them THAT much because you have yet to order them. With the success of Paradym on the tour this year, might be time to give Callaway a try. Yes, I’m a Callaway fan boy. Lol. I’ve loved the irons for the past 25 years. I’ve tried others but the response from the irons is classic. I’ve not felt that with any others. I’ve tried many throughout the years. It all comes down to a personal feel. What you like, what gives you the most confidence, and pleasure.

Rick you really should consider the Wilson Staff CB iron set from 4-GW. I love my set; standard lofts, pure forged makeup, thus amazing feel; very sexy looking and well priced. In fact, not to long ago you tested them out and had a very rewarding test. That said, I also have the Wilson Staff 52 Wedge as well. For your less loft 56-60, longer irons and driver....I highly recommend you giving TXG a call and have Ian give you a nice fitting. With respect to the ball, I started my pick from the putting green and worked my way back. In the end, I went with the Vice Pro Plus for their feel, perforce and cost efficiency.

Mizuno irons or maybe Srixon are soft and forgiving and have always looked the part. I know you said a thicker driving iron. Almost sounds like a hybrid. Love the Ping driver and the true blue 3 wood. Evenroll is awesome.

PXG irons soooo customisable! Nothing feels like a Mizuno Taylor Made P range ? Srixon Zx5/7 combo ? Such fun Rick enjoy

Love the links legend bag, I’ve got in a grey with my home club’s logo. I’d highly recommend you test the TSI3 hybrid (I guess TSR now). I’ve got a similar shot shape and miss as you, and normally hate hybrids as they tend to go left. The minimal offset on the TSI3 and ability to fade-bias it may make it a good fit the top end of your bag. Good luck!

This is going to be interesting but I would change your long iron for a 7 wood, there is a reason why the pros are doing it and you play well with old bluey

I would love to see you take on an idea I've had for years. Really depending on your level of play, finding clubs or setups that have dual purpose. Example find a driver with the loft at 9 degrees with a certain shaft for your distance setup vs. A 10 degree loft adjustment with possibly a different shaft. Not talked about a lot but pros make these modifications pretty often and would be cool to see you share the wisdom with the public now that adjustable woods have become some predominant. Like a refined version of your playing with 2 sets video that then goes into different wedge grinds.

I just got p790 irons and by far the best irons I’ve ever used. Soft feel, forgiving, shape the ball beautifully, nice height and look great
