It's not hard to imagine why, and that is despite any flaws that it contains. Comparing to what is usually broadcasted during the holidays, it is the one movie that goes as far out as possible to not be one of the usual cookie-cutter narratives that one would expect.

Love your channel. Just subbed after watching the Freddy video. Love the longer format. I just wanted to comment about Dan Haggerty. He got so much work because he was genuinely one of the nicest guys you could ever know. My uncle worked with him quite a bit. My grandma told me that Dan Haggerty and Terry Funk were her adopted kids. They would both call her on her birthday and Christmas every year.

When I was a kid in the 70s, I saw a lot of great Christmas cheese. Santa Claus (1959) is the only one you mentioned. My first movie was "The Christmas That Almost Wasn't ", an Italian/American co-production directed by Rosanno Brazzi, who also played the villain. The producer, Paul Tripp, plays a lawyer trying to save Santa from being evicted by Brazzi's character. The supervisor at the workshop looked like Ringo Starr after a 3 day meth bender. They tried to fool people into thinking they used an aerial shot but it was a nativity set of houses. When Santa, Mrs. Claus (played by Rossano Brazzi's wife) and Paul Tripp's character go deliver presents, the reindeer aren't moving, the carriage is rocking and the people are shadow figures that aren't moving. Then there's Santa And The Ice Cream Bunny, a film shot in Florida, directed by Barry Mahon, who was the inspiration for Steve McQueen's Cooler King character in The Great Escape. Santa 's sleigh gets stuck on a beach in Florida. Local kids arrive to assist him. I also saw Santa Claus Conquers The Martians. I really liked that one because it was nice and cheesy. I also saw Santa And The 3 Bears, which was a cartoon with a live action wrap around. Like Santa And The Ice Cream Bunny, this was also a Florida production. There are a couple more that I vaguely remember.

Greatest Christmas movie I've ever seen was Santa's Summer House with martial arts body builder Cynthia Rothrock as Mrs Claus and an extended 45 minute long croquet game because I think the editor was on strike.
@TaramiBedona
@TaramiBedona 2 жыл бұрын
We watched that last year; the croquet scene made us lose it, come to our senses, get bored with it then lose it all over again, multiple times. It's not inherently funny (in fact most of the movie is run-of-the-mill DeCoteau) but to include a full game of croquet as padding in a Christmas movie is so blatant it becomes hysterical.

I know it's August, and i have a feeling you already are aware, but still, Karate Christmas takes footage from the director's previous film, Joker's Wild or the Aurora Massacre for it's UK release. It's a pro-gun rights retelling of the 2012 mass shooting in the state of Aurora, with supernatural elements thrown in for fun and profit. Of all the film's i've seen this side of the century, it is only one of a handful i would call genuinely psychotronic, a concept that should have never been with an execution, no pun intended, that's out of this world.
@fusionspace175

I have to admit Saving Christmas was a fun watch, for how insane it is. Grumpy Cat I love in a more genuine way though, it's as close to intentionally bad as it can be and still be entertaining, largely because it's also Lifetime enough to be genuinely bad in some classic ways, making the self awareness work.

The portrayal of the Caribbean in that movie from 1959 may be representative of American and European impact on the islands, which brought much strife. From European colonization and merchant wars of the past centuries to more recent American military involvement in the islands; the 100 years preceding 1959 in particular containing many wars of independence and conflict amongst and between greater & regional powers. maracas are just a traditional instrument and probably represent the strong musical tradition of the islands

My all-time favorite Christmas movie is actually Santa Claus (1959). To me, it works in this wonderfully magical, straight-faced way, where you don't feel talked down to at all. It is a world that works on its own logic, where Santa and Merlin and Hephaestus all work together for the good of mankind. I also appreciate that the Devil appears not in temptations of vague power, but in the small, painful moments that wear you away inside.

I don't remember Hephaestus being in it. But I do find it interesting that Cardona apparently made it because he wanted to increase Santa Claus's visibility in Mexico and invented all the wild extra stuff to differentiate it from the more generic American version.

If you want to present entertainment, do that. If you want to be an advocate, do that. They do not mix. I quote Michael Jordan of the USA: 'Republicans buy sneakers too." If you don't want certain people to watch your channel or buy your books, you are not a businessman. Comments below make clumsy efforts at pointing out this elementary fact. If you are in the business of selling your product to as many people as possible, you don't insult about 40% of your potential customers. I would actually love to see you 'do' religious movies, as most of them are horrible. But in your listing Kirk Cameron as a Bad Movie icon solely because of his beliefs you have simply mirrored him. If you support trans rights, then feature Woods' Glen Or Glenda, which by any metric is a terrible movie. Or 'Tomorrow's Pioneers' by Hamas- sponsored terror aimed at children, which is an incredible watch, it's hilarious except for, you know, the content. Be in the entertainment business, or the advocacy business. This post, honestly, talked me out of buying any of your books. It did. And I like your stuff. But I'm not supporting you if you are not serious about being in the entertainment business. Go get a 'job' with an NGO.

"A hate crime against cinema" is correct sir. Too bad this is a year old, because they just made another terrible Christmas action movie, staring the sheriff from stranger things. He's a Santa who mows down bad guys with a machine gun. It's truly hilarious because in the movie Scrooged, there's a joke about a terrible Santa movie just like this. Then they actually made it 30 year's later! But, hey, Hollywood must reflect it's desire for diversity and tolerance for modern audience.

Perhaps Christianity isn't under threat in jolly old England. But it's absolutely being ferociously attacked right here in America. I doubt you would care either way though. Just because you are an atheist liberal, doesn't mean you have to deny this reality. The way you mock Christianity here, is highly offensive. As a brit, I bet you wouldn't dare mock Islam in the same way, would you?

You can’t adopt a moniker that complains about a lack of free speech on youtube and then complain about differing opinions. While I agree that the constant unnecessary political commentary peppered into these videos is annoying, I’m not surprised. Hypocrisy is a bad look

@@brutallyhonest123 I'm not sure you even know what "free speech" is. Your position is, that because I have a handle taking a dig at KZbin for their fascist stance on free speech. This means I cannot have my own opinion, and disagree with someone? Yeah, that's not how free speech work's buddy. You are exactly the problem in this country. You see, where I was simply disagreeing with someone, and absolutely not telling them they cannot say THIS, or say THAT... You on the other hand, triggered, let your inner leftist out by literally telling me this; "You can't adopt a moniker that complains about a lack of free speech on KZbin and then complain about differing opinions." Even though that's not at all what I was doing, because simply disagreeing, isn't"complaining" about someone's opinion. But rather giving your own. Your actually telling me I cannot disagree, and give my own opinion, if you don't like it. Especially if I'm a proponent of free speech. It's also telling that you slap the descriptive word "complaining" on any opinions or view you don't like. This is not a dig at you, but really, maybe educate yourself a little more on free speech, what it is and how its used. So a BIG SWING, and a miss for you.

@@dennett316 The complaining in the beginning about there being too many white people in lifetime holiday movies. Then deciding those Mexican kid's were ethnically white because they weren't brown enough. It's just typical liberal nitpicking over race and color. When in reality it doesn't matter. I imagine he's probably what's called an ethnomasochist.
