It's always a tough call because obviously in those cases the fighter was not finished. They came back to win. In a "real" fight, i.e. with no ref to stop it, the person who takes the beating and comes back to get the clean KO or submission would have won, so by that logic the call is correct. But there are other times when it's just adding more damage to a fighter who is going to lose. But yeah, it's not exactly cut and dry.

@disturbed4everluke 5 жыл бұрын
@@shiishani3302 sorry but you're incorrect on some of that. yair landed 91 sig strikes to zombie's 85. so yeah it wasn't anything even close to being a comeback when it was that close. a case could be made for yair winning statistically. he landed more shots and threw less so his accuracy was also higher. he defended one takedown and zombie got one takedown on him. so yeah to call it a comeback for yair to win when a case could be made for him to have won anyway just isn't that sound.

Silvia vs Sonnen wasn't a comeback... Silvia escaped by PURE LUCK!!! Chael beat Anderson's a$$ for the first 23 out of 25 minutes.... It was a one sided beat down... It wasn't even close... Chael demolished him.... All he had to do was stay away from Silva or just lay down and he'd been crowned champion.... That was the most heartbreaking fight I've ever seen. Gustafson v Jones 1 was nearly as bad, but both men appeared to do damage... Gustafson won IMO, but it was ruled a draw😂

Goin way back and outside of the UFC the two legendary comebacks I can think of from Pride are: Ryo Chonan vs Anderson Silva, Chonan hitting a flying scissor to heel hook for the win after getting dominated rd 1. And Nick Diaz vs Takanari Gomi. Gomi's punches made the swelling so bad that Diaz couldn't see anymore, but Diaz weathered the storm and Gomi was gassed and took an ill-advised shot at which point Diaz threw up a gogoplata. Diaz couldn't see S@#$ so the move was all by feel / desperation. Also Bob Sapp vs Minotauro Nogueira. For whatever reason, Pride could put on superfights with no weight restrictions so Sapp had a 100+ lbs. weight advantage on Nogueira. For the majority of the fight Sapp was literally hulk-smash rag-dolling and slamming Big Nog, who gave up his back repeatedly. Then in one grappling exchange Big Nog hits a switch and sweeps Sapp and then instantly submits him. Man I miss Pride

How about the time Matt Hughes passed out standing to a triangle choke by Carlos Newton thereby slamming him to the ground and knocking Newton out and somehow Matt staying semi-conscious enough for the ref to declare Matt the victor? But bodies don't just fall at that rate without some force acting upon them. Matt Hughes was that force.

Lawler vs. Manhoef always stands out to me. If you know how a low kick feels, imagine taking one from Melvin M. Scary. Fedor vs. Randleman. Just the fact that Fedor remained conscious--and un-phased--from getting slammed on his head and neck is unbelievable. What came next was even crazier. Lawler vs. Askrin. From the get-go, Robbie was absolutely mauling Askrin. My jaw dropped. But that bulldog choke (from the guy who compressed two watermelons into smithereens with his gable grip) was a bizarre comeback. Bob Sapp vs. Big Nog. Getting punched by Sapp was like walking into a steel beam. Awkward as he was, he beat Ernesto Hoost and a few other fighters. If memory serves, Big Nog took a crazy beating. God, there are so many great comebacks.

My favourite comeback fight was the Edgar V Maynard 2 & 3 fights, if you've never seen the fights watch the first round of both of them to see why so many fighters agree that no other fighter other than Frankie Edgar encapulates the spirit of the Rocky movies!! As far as comeback on being points down I think that goes to Anderson Silva (V Chael Sonnen) as he had lost all 5 rounds including a couple of 10-8 rounds then pulls off the submission to win half way through the last round!!

I think Silva's comeback over Sonnen is one of the greatest SPORTS comebacks of all time, not just MMA. I remember watching that fight being a Silva fan and growing more and more hopeless as the fight wore on. By the 5th, there was the smallest ember of hope in the heart of this fan, and near the end it was gone. When Silva's legs came up for the triangle the hope in me grew just a bit like the Grinch's heart, and then the entire bar erupted when Sonnen tapped. Fucking magic!

@@NoOne-ky1er Rozenstruik or however you spell his name! That’s was absolutely insane, and the craziest most bizarre final 9 seconds of a fight I’ve ever seen. The things occurred that were absolutely mind blowing to me and were responsible for what occurred. Obviously to have the heart and determination to not give up when you clearly lost the fight and hearing the clappers to signify 10 seconds left in the 5 round 25 minute fight and as awesome as it was for him to somehow find the power to get that Punch off with 3 seconds remaining, but then you decide to walk away instead of making the ref stop you is classy if the guy is clearly sleeping, but he wasn’t no matter how much you believe in your power and know that shot would sleep anyone it somehow didn’t put him in Lala land. So I guess that’s 1A and 1B that punch and the walk away. Number 2 is the ref being put in a situation where you see a man just get absolutely crushed and get up and stumble to the side with his lip falling off his face seems like a legit stoppage, however he did stand straight up and the opponent wasn’t about to attack nor near him nor facing him in fact he was walking the other direction with his backed turned halfway across the octagon so with that occurring and knowing there’s only a second left and not a chance to take more damage I see the argument both ways for sure and I’d hate to be in that situation but he decided to wave it off with one second left. 3. Last but certainly not least in the slightest the main cause was on overeem himself. What in the world are you thinking. You’re winning the fight easily and you hear the clappers meaning 10 seconds left and you decide to back pedal slowly with your hands completely down with a man with KO power is coming towards you needing to land a KO punch to your face to win the fight and you somehow let that happen??? What the actual heck, just how are you not just covering your entire face with your tree trunks for arms. I mean hell get in the fetal position if necessary to ensure that you don’t get touched in the face. One job and one job only and that is to win the fight and that was happening and the only way it wouldn’t happen was to get punched in the face clean and your strategy in that situation is to stand there and take a couple steps backwards with hands by his waist. Hmmm so let’s think of what he could have possibly been thinking. A. he bet his entire bank roll on getting a ko B. He needs to get that 50k ko bonus for the kids Well These aren’t the case because he wasn’t throwing punches at all at the time. So those are out. C. He thought the clappers meant the end of the fight D. He didn’t think that this dude could possibly ko him no matter what E. He believed that if you win the first 4 rounds than the last round didn’t matter because it’s only one round and that you could tap out go take a nap and your hand would get raised. (Thanks Chael Sonnen for a comment I will never forget) These can’t be the case because that’s make him an absolute moron. So what could it have been… there’s only one explanation I can come up with and that’s a dive? He is European and they’re famous for that. I mean that’s the most logical explanation for what happened in that fight. I will never understand how a fighter gets KO’d with under 10 seconds left in a fight that you clearly won and the opponent is about 3-4 steps away from being able to land a punch. So there’s no way that he didn’t see it coming, and is it possible that he was just so fatigued and possibly got hit at some point previously that stunned him so much that along with the fatigue he forgot to defend himself for the last 5 seconds and even try to block the punch by putting your hands and arms in front of your head? I mean come on it was clear to anyone at all that he had only one thing he could do and that is to go over to him and try and punch him as hard as possible in the face. So having said all this, I agree that this was an absolutely amazing comeback but was it better than the ones listed? I’m trying to remember which ones listed weren’t as good but there has to be one or two for sure because it was a buzzer beater as well which automatically gives it even more of a wow factor. Also surprised that Nate Diaz vs McGregor in the first fight wasn’t listed but I guess this isn’t the ufc putting the list together because they just try to do whatever they can to make sure if theirs a list for the best anything that McGregor is on the list somehow and Diaz was getting absolutely destroyed for the first round and a half. I don’t recall if Mir’s comeback vs Lesner was on the list in the fight where Mir was hiding the horseshoe somewhere. And in the next fight Lesner had to find it and take it out of him and beat him over the head with it before he got home to get on top of his wife after drinking a Coors Light! But I agree with the initial post on this thread about Silva getting the win over Sonnen as probably the best. Definitely counted him out and didn’t see that coming until it did. That Matt Hughes comeback as well after that nut shot followed by almost getting KO’d and then somehow slipping out of that rnc to somehow just pick him up and walking him clear across the ring and getting a rnc himself in was just classic Hughes and just so crazy to witness. Or the 3rd selection for best comeback in history would be the fight where Frankie getting dropped 4 times in the first round and somehow surviving that vs Maynard. Fighting is amazing and there’s not much better than to see a guy that’s so close to defeat but then find the heart and determination to continue and have the mentality that the only way to lose the fight is to kill me and you didn’t do that so I’m gonna make it so The ref has to stop me from letting you meet your creator and see what truly happens after the life inside leaves the bones and flesh that are covering it. So crazy what these humans go through in a fight sometimes and somehow make it out conscious and alive and I’m some cases like these listed not only escape potential death or unconsciousness but find a way to do that to another foe who is an absolute born killing savage.

7:01 there you go. All the comebacks were because the ref did NOT stop the fight after the guy is being beaten endlessly with no good defense or anything.
