The dominance shown by the West Indies teams of the 70s and 80s is unparalleled.

The Windies didn't really become dominant till world series cricket came in and gutted Australian cricket. They were thrashed 5-1 the 1975/76 series against Australia in a extremally one sided series but were dominiant from 1978 till 1995 so not really 70s and 80s more 80s till mid 90s. Also it was more they didn't lose as opposed to always won. They ended up drawing a large number of tests partially because if they looked like losing they would bowl 50 or 60 overs in a day. Look at the win loss draw records of Clive Lloyd and Viv Richards as opposed to Steve Waugh and Ricky Ponting. The Windies are the the main reason over rates became such a big thing.

WI dominated when cricket was starting to globalise. Whereas Aus ruled when majority of countries were at their peak(except NZ and ENg).Australia also achieved great heights in ICC tournaments which unfortunately WI couldn't match

@@DjokerFan West Indies were not at their peak when Aus dominated. Windies cricket saw a sharp and rapid decline from the mid to late 90s onwards. A decline from which they still have not recovered, even though they won a trophy here and there but those were few and far between. I'll just add that the West Indies lacks the infrastructure (cricket academies etc) that countries like Australia have and cricket is no longer the focus of West Indian youth. That honour belongs to football and basketball.

It's a difficult list to put together cause it's pretty much the Windies for 2 decades then Australia for another 2 decades. Then you got other teams like England 2005 building a teams to beat Australia at their peak only to be soundly beat in the next series. Having said that the standard of cricket we see today might be down to the Aussies. Everyone wanted to beat them and they all had to work hard to meet their standard.

Ganguly's team India faced the prime of the golden generation of the Australian(1996-2006), South African(1996-2004) and Sri Lankan(1996-2003) teams with an average Indian side. I laugh of people who undermine Ganguly's caliber for being a winning captain compared to Dhoni. Dhoni's side was lucky enough to have faced a comparatively average/inferior side of these nations.

I don't watch cricket anymore, but damn I was a huge fan back in late 90s to mid 2010s. And Australia in 1st decade of 21st century was a force to be reckoned with. As an Indian, we used to believe that if Sachin was still in the crease, we could still win. If he's gone, the match was gone. But Aussies, if Hayden was gone, there was Ponting. If Gilchrist was gone, Clark is still to come. Damn they had a strong line-up. As an 11 year old, I literally tore my house down when they defeated us in finals in 2003. Great times.❤

Australians are bred with a mental toughness that Indians don't have. Imagine doing what they did last night with 130,000 screaming Indians supporting their home side. That is sheer mental strength and India choked. Pakistan, NZ and India all beat Australia in an early World Cup match, but couldn't do it again in the final.

Just a match that India won ( and credit due to them at the time) and West Indies surprisingly lost. That was the only blip they had. They went to India and won 3 - 0 in the Test series and 5 - 0 in the one day series. No other team did that. They also were the first team to beat Pakistan in Pakistan EVER in a series
