That's exactly what the sense of smell does. And the older you get and the more special people you associate with a fragrance, the more wonderful memories you store in the olfactory memory. Even when you're from the Cretaceous period, like me, those recollections will be sharp.

@@johnscarr70 As someone who started wearing Aramis in college (around 1977 or so after my mom bought me the cologne, shampoo and conditioner) after graduating from English Leather, I can't understand when guys in their 30's say the older fragrances that aren't like today's sweets, smell like they're for an old man. I always tell them if that's the case, hold the bottle for 20 years and then it will be perfect for them!
@johnscarr704 жыл бұрын
@@shave-a-thon3415 you are slightly ahead of my time line but the principle is exactly the same. My first fine fragrance was Gucci Nobile, some 30 years ago. @@johnscarr70 If I could get a few cases of Old Spice that were made by Shulton before its sale to Proctor & Gamble, I would love it! Even Mennen aftershave had a load of novelty versions out in the 1970's and 1980's. The companies that bought all the old fragances and aftershaves either cheapened them or their marketing departments have lost any thought of creating holiday gift and novelty sets. When Polo Sport was released around 1990, it was offered with a nice sized Polo Sport beach blanket. Paul Sebastian was sold with gift watches for Father's Day. I must have had a dozen duffel bags that came with fragrances purchased in department stores, from Davidoff to Gucci.

My old man had a 50ml of Salvador Dali on his dish for over a decade. He only wore it on nights out. The new formulation smells exactly as I remember from my childhood but a little weaker. I think it smells great but I obviously have a big association with this one. It's not for everyone. It's dark and gothic while also having a heavy 80s vibe. You'll basically smell like a vampire that went underground in 1988 and just recently emerged.

Greetings sir. Best wishes from Mexico, as always, having a great time with your videos. I quite enjoy Obsession but rather as a general culture scent, i have to say i find it pretty much unwearable in the heatwave we've been having lately in Mexico and in my taste, thy is overwhelming. I have to say though, i would prefer to wear the female Obsession, which i find quite a bit nicer, more animalic and yet more refined, while being relatively unisex. Have to agree with you there with Pour Lui and Lapidus, great scents as well for a great bang for buck as well. Salvador Dalí is a tad more expensive here. Pour Lui i personally find deeply "perfumed" in the sense that it's a deeply refined yet masculine composition, in my opinion with its very nice aldehydic and carnation - forward edge which might even give off a slight liquor vibe, very wearable as well, i've got the current formula. Lapidus i had but it' almost the opposite. Almost unwearable as well. If Obsession was unwearable for the cinnamon faceful, Lapidus is like a urinal cake with grape soda or stuff. Quite aggressive IMO. I'd also add Jacomo de Jacomo, i don't know if you already know it sir. It's a great scent to the likes of Santos de Cartier with more fougere and smoke - forward nuances, even smelling like an ashtray with fresh ciggie butts, raw herbs and a bunch of cloves. And if it's not your cup of tea, i'd also recommend Jacques Bogart One Man Show since it seems to be one of the most usable powerhouses from the time and i really loved it since it seems to be a sort of "clean" (IE Not a urine bomb) and green powerhouse of the likes of Polo, Chanel Antaeus and such. I personally prefer it above the current formula of Polo and such since i find OMS closer to the older, pre 2010 formulas of Polo, which were much more raw and smoky.

Speaking for myself I never really ever considered buying my own Aftershave back then, nor would I dare to go testing in the “make -up department” of my local Rackhams dept. store in Birmingham. That was just too much for me with so many good looking ladies working in there 😍 imagine Kevin and Perry that was me 😳. I was ok buying 80’s strong deodorant like old spice or Insignia from Boots the Chemist. But buying my own aftershave and not at Christmas no way! Ha! Using the descriptive adjective "cheap" rather than inexpensive probably would double your clicks! Do you have a vintage Salvadore Dali edt or is that the reformulation? Is your Lagerfeld the current Interparfums, Coty or earlier version? I've always felt that the Shalimar edp dries down to something that smells like Lagerfeld. As far as Aramis goes, I've been wearing it since the latter part of the 1970's. It's still strong but not like those original oakmoss bombs! Even the current aftershave splash is stronger than many edt's out there. There's only one Aramis flanker that you can't find discounted and that's Aramis JHL (named after Estee Lauder's husband, Joseph H. Lauder). Have you ever tried it? It's still available in the US at a few major dept. stores. Here it is in the UK: www.debenhams.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/prod_10701_10001_117993900499_-1 You should also try Aramis Tuscany and Aramis Devin. I thought you owned the excellent Aramis Tobacco Reserve. Obession was my 1980's and 1990's date night scent. It was a cologne when it first came out and stronger than most of the edp's of today. Try today's Obsession edp for women. Very strong and very close to the male version. You should always include Paul Sebastian. It's still stronger than most out there: www.fragrantica.com/perfume/Paul-Sebastian/PS-Fine-Cologne-5043.html Honorable mention goes to Giorgio for Men by Giorgio of Beverly Hills: www.fragrantica.com/perfume/Giorgio-Beverly-Hills/Giorgio-for-Men-1891.html

I'm a 55 year old fougere, barbershop fan. 1. Lapidus, I love this, top notes smell like Zoologist Hummingbird, which I wanted. Slight unpleasant musk only if I stick my nose in my arm. So powerful, I smelled it on me for hours. 2. Duc de Vervins, lovely 3. Pour Lui, sweet 4. Xeryus 5. Lagerfeld, 70s, 80s flashback 6. Versace L'homme 7. Aramis 8. Havana 9. Obsession, smells like Shalimar without the gasoline, but it's too feminine. 10. Salvador Dali, disgusting. I can kind of tolerate it on my dog.

Totally love obsession but latest formulation is a poor shadow of it former self.

Has anyone converted these “X sprays of” memes into animated gifs? Every fragrance group ever needs some.

Always thought that Xeryus was smelling a bit like hashish in the drydown

Mr Smelly needs to do a modern powerhouse fragrance! Imagine uses 50 sprays of D & G *THE ONE*, can't tell if he sprayed so empties the whole bottle on himself. -result- Mr Smelly trips over a creasing the the carpet! [Come to think of it didn't ...Jeremy Fragrance empty a whole can of Sauvage spray on himself to get compliments in Ibiza]

Obsession was my scent through much of high school in the early to mid 90s. Not to be a boomer but man frags have fallen hard since then.

Unfortunately CK obsession is a shadow of it former self. A real shame. Great fragrance now a very weak performer.
