A home should work with the outside environment of the area/country. How many people in the UK have flooring and big open plan rooms when our country is mostly cold. Having added thick lined velvet curtains to my sash windows and layered rugs to wooden floors has given my home added warmth, luxury, with the richness of colour and textures adding to a sense of daily well being in these stressful times.

As someone who has done their own thing for well over a decade using lots of earthy tones, woods and earthy vibes with warmer colors, I’m finally “trending” lol. While everyone was doing all grays and whites, I marched to my own beat and never regretted it.

@My Pocket Designer….you said it beautifully and I couldn’t agree with you more. Every time I go for a trendy look, I get exhausted of it and redo the space. However, when I go with colors and styles I love, I keep it for what feels like forever and then we move up and on. Honestly though after my husband I created each space, we absolutely loved it and each home sold so fast. We will be moving one more time to our retirement home soon and I am looking forward to that next blank canvas.

Sophie, I see your lovely designs that cater for large rooms so please consider doing decor designs for small rooms. It’s frustrating as most of us live in flats or smaller houses but aspire to get a good aesthetic. I’m happy for you to use my home to practice on. We need storage solutions, clean easy to clean spaces , using furniture we already own & only have a small budget. Costings would help too. As would luxury vs budget comparisons to achieve similar results.

I have never been a one to go for trends. If I like something, I get it, regardless of it being trendy or not. I don't really have a style. My mum was English, so I was raised with the warm English style. She loved flowers, gold and brass, crystal chandeliers, glasses, vases, etc. She loved interior design, so our home always looked beautiful. I love all that, but I also love the beach, so I love coastal things. There are a few farmhouse items that I like. So really, I don't stick to one thing. But I do have things that work together. I also like to change things for different seasons and holidays. I grew up a military BRAT, so I'm used to change. I love to rearrange my furniture, and knickknacks. I sound like a mess, and confused, but I'm not. I loved this video, and your calm and thoroughly thought out & classy style. Thank you!

Dear Sophie, I love your aesthetic sensibility, you have exquisite taste. I wanted to give you a tip. If you want dry leaves, like olive or other varieties, try putting them in water with 1/3 glycerin (easy to get on Amazon, I think I bought an organic variety) and 2/3 water. Leave it for about 3 weeks. If that is insufficient, try 50 percent glycerin. You can experiment with a variety of leaves. Not all leaves will survive, but some will. This is how eucalyptus leaves are preserved. I broke my heel, so experimenting with different leaves helps pass the time. So far I've gotten an outdoor orchid to survive and am trying some eastern redbud leaves and olive currently. One I can walk, I'm going to try preserving some eucalyptus and possibly some palms. I wish you luck, if nothing else, it's fun. Good luck, and thank you for the inspiration. Maybe someday I can afford some of the elements you use in your designs. I'm so fond of your silk wallpapers, but it's way out of my budget. I recently remodeled my home in San Diego, but nothing on the level of luxury in your world. I look forward to your future videos. Noelle

Thanks Noelle great tip! I love San Diego- I know it well as my in laws live nearby half the year
@noellemelese22272 жыл бұрын
@@sophiepatersoninteriorsltd I would love to meet you if you visit. Where are your in laws? Is your husband American? I just love your work, so elegant, and yet looks comfy. I feel like I could totally relax in your home. You are a lovely person too. I grew up in La Jolla, but am now in a tract home next to Del Mar. We actually have an exquisite home in Port Townsend, Washington which I love. It has spectacular architecture, is on a cliff overlooking the strait of Juan de Fuca. Washington is one of the most beautiful places in the world. It's truly a fairly land. Deer walk around downtown. One year I saw a gorgeous stag in my yard. We have a guest home there should you want to visit Port Townsend. It was supposed to be the port that Seattle became, but it was difficult to get trains there to transport shopped items. It's a Victorian town, but feels like you're living in the 50s. I could talk about it at length. Should you be interested in visiting, I can send you photos of our home and guest house. Thank you for responding, it's delightful to hear from you and your connection to San Diego.

I love a neutral, textured look. The trend has made it possible for me to find the replacement area rug I have wanted for a long time! I very much miss my light maple kitchen, though, from the 90's...when we moved, only super dark, very light or very ORANGESPICE cabinets were available from our builder. Too bad hubs likes it so much, lol!
