Jurassic Park is one of those franchises where the simple fact that it isn't the first movie automatically makes it the worst thing ever to most critics. It's so annoying that these movies have been labeled as shallow cash grabs with no soul when, in reality, a lot of thought and care went into this new trilogy, at least to anyone paying attention. They aren't perfect films by any stretch, but they are far and away from being disingenuous garbage like a lot of other franchise sequels.

Such a great video after all you’ve made a rehash of the last Fallen Kingdom video that I also enjoyed. I hope Dominion wouldn’t suffered the same fate as the other Jurassic sequels, especially Jurassic World, otherwise, either Steven Spielberg or Colin Trevorrow would sold the franchise due to harsh criticism, just like how George Lucas did after the sheer amount of hatred towards the prequel trilogy. This is why I’m writing an upcoming MLP and Jurassic crossover fanfiction to tell the haters to present their opinions more courteously and show how they’re missing crucial information without denying their own thoughts.

Just to say popp. I actually did a rough count of the dinosaurs that escaped (that we saw anyway) From what I can gather, the ones that stampeded out of the lockwood estate include the following: -one Tyrannosaurus rex (Rexy) -one "IBRIS-raptor" (Blue) -five triceratopses (six if you include a baby trike) -at least two or three apatosaurus (maybe more if there are infants) -at least four or seven parasaurs -somewhere between fourteen or twenty-five compies (very likely more than that) -at least Four or five stygmoloch -somewhere between sixteen or twenty gallimimus -two or four carnotaurus -at least five stegosaurus -at least four or six ankylosaurus -at least three or four allosaurus -at least four sinoceratops -at least three or two baryonyx -at least two nasutoceratops -at least three captured pteranodon bare in mind that this is the mimium estimate, there could be way more than that. and that's not mentioning the extra HALF that were actually SOLD OFF around the globe

A lot of these might be technically true saves, but they don't override the intense anger many and myself still get at this movie. The indoraptor smile is my most hated moment in the franchise, and nothing will ever really change that because I hate anthropomorphism in movie animals. Other things, like Sorna having a volcano (something I knew), should have simply been explained. Jeff Goldblum should have shown he was worried about genetic code getting out, not vaguely referencing the end of the movie. The movie is just absolutely terrible, and using outside resources and technical truths doesn't change how people feel about the movie in action.

Liam uses videos such as yours and others like it, to basically weaponize it against reviewers he hates and as a means of basically beating them down with, and despite Liam's claims of trying to defend Fallen Kingdom on the matter, he literally admits during the one response video he made towards a reviewer known as RaisorBlade that he's made the entire 3+ hour response to RaisorBlade entirely out of spite. Yea, it's quite concerning so many "critics" are so hot for slaughtering living beings just because they can be dangerous. It's like the themes of the franchise has gone directly over their heads. These people don't see the dinosaurs as "valid" because of their creation...because they were made from science, these people subconsciously remove their agency as living beings with a right to live and that reflects in their troubling "criticisms" of how "stupid" it is to want to save the dinosaurs.
@nope5657
@nope5657 5 ай бұрын
You know 98% of the YT "critics" have no real working knowledge or deeper appreciation of film when they can watch a film like Fallen Kingdom and dismiss the OBVIOUS craft on display and just say "there's no tension its just dinosaurs." Chris Stuckmann especially should know better. Bayona directs the best looking JP film since Spielberg with ACTUAL depth to the images, thoughtful compositions, REAL atmosphere, thoughtful camera movement and blocking, etc. It's one of the best directed blockbusters of the past decade. Yes, I'm serious. Hate the film's story or script and story all you want. I would agree that the film's biggest downfall is it's script (and even then it's still not terrible). But far too many "critics" today genuinely don't know how to engage in analyzing film outside of generic "script watching" nitpicking. There is more to a film than it's script. And FAR FAR FAR too many "critics" and people online are FAR FAR FAR too comfortable treating the craft, the formalism, of a film as superfluous, like it doesn't matter. And even then, these people that just tear apart the script can't even do THAT right because, as this video points out, they miss OBVIOUS things the film directly shows us! I bet money that half of these people can't even tell you about formalism in film. They have no clue what it is. When the vast majority criticisms for films these days from all of the popular internet "critics" is just shallow bashing of "plot" and "writing" you know we lost something valuable in the art of criticism. Take the Claire criticisms for example. When people are literally bitching about OBVIOUS and logical character development, you know things are dire. Claire's character in FK makes all the sense in the world. Like, it's the first most obvious choice for her in a JW sequel, lol. But the most logical character progression is now a "flaw" and "bad writing." God, people are dumb. Nobody ever talks about form - they just shallowly review a script. Even as someone who struggled with FK a LOT when it came out I noticed the fantastic visual filmmaking on display and clever visual metaphors Bayona used throughout. It's heavily flawed script elevated GREATLY by the craft on display. And that is worthy of praise in and of itself. But nobody is, quite frankly, educated in film language enough to do or say anything more than "lolz story dumb lolz nitpick nitpick!"

Lex from the first movie went through the same shit (minus the stupid human clone part) by witnessing ppl being eaten and having to escape, yet by the end she was all for nuking the island. Is it sad? Yes. But I feel it would have been more impactful for the audience to have to sit with the characters and watch these amazing creatures perish. Then you can tie in the whole animal rights stuff with Dino Green Peace working to save actual endangered animals. Literally anything other than sad clone girl releases dinosaurs into a world they no NOTHING about. And I know this was before Doninion, but then she NEVER has any negative impacts from her decision! I agree with many of the points you've made, but there's a couple of things I feel like could be better. I don't want to Drone on, so I'll try to be concise and present the main point of contention: the suspense of the movie as mentioned. Owen Grady should have died numerous times throughout the movie, and I will explain them in a bit of detail. The first death should have occurred when he was hit with the tranq that was designed to knock out dinosaurs, I believe it was specifically meant for Blue. Blue is canonical about 320 pounds, and is a hyper carnivore with a very high metabolism, meaning that the tranq dart has to be quite potent. When Owen was shot with said tranq, it is extremely likely that he simply dies from it, or that he's knocked out for far longer than he actually is in the movie. That leads to the second death: the lava. If he doesn't die from the tranq, he absolutely dies from the lava. Again, tranq designed for a hyper-carnivore that weighs about 50% more than he does, he's not flopping around like a fish to safety. The third death should be during the scene he's engulfed in the pyroclasm. Thr pyroclastic flow itself reaches anywhere between 200-1000 degrees Celcius, or about 400-1800 degrees Fahrenheit, along with volcanic smoke and rock and rampaging dinos. He's engulfed in said pyroclastic flow for quite some time before he makes his way into the ocean with Claire and.. screaming scientist dude. Owen should be dead once more. These scenes take place over, what, 10 minutes of the movie? These scenes take away the narrative tension in a movie, because if you perpetually put characters into situations where they should die and don't, it simply clicks that they are in essentially no danger, narratively speaking. No matter how many times you put them in a potentially dangerous situation, if they never suffer any consequences for it, that takes away narrative and dramatic tension. That's one of the main reasons the original JP had tension in swathes. As soon as the dinosaurs break out, what happens? Ian Malcolm, a main character, is critically injured. Donald Genaro, at least an important side character, dies. Lex and Tim suffer injuries in the car and Tim almost plummets to his death. The fact that we see very real consequences that last throughout the majority of the movie on our important characters, it creates tension for the later scenes. Owen doesn't suffer really any lasting consequences, thus killing the tension, at least in reference to him.

The reality is, the minimum temperature of the smoke would be 200°C or ~400°F (not that hot in the grand scheme) would kill a man. the reason the indoraptor didn't use it's smell is because as the movie and you pointed out is it's sadistic personality. It wanted to draw out the hunt to cause fear in owen, maisie, and claire, before it killed them. plus the simpletons that think that a girl making the right call to release animals (that are in no way indestructible or bulletproof) are somehow going to make humanity go extinct is a villain are idiots. Of course people will be killed or hurt, unfortunately that is what happens when a wild animal attacks. But, you don't see people exterminating entire species of mountain lions, bears, wolves or crocodiles every time someone unfortunately encounters them. plus if dinosaurs were brought back and got out into the world, could have a beneficial effect on humanity, new sources of food, creation of new medicines by studying their physiology, the applications are limitless.

One thing that people apparently never thought about in regards to "should dinosaurs live or die?" is two very important counter-arguments: One, it doesn’t change anything and two, we have lots of dangerous animals on the planet that can attack and kill humans; should they be extiinct, too? For starters, but apart from the fact that just simply killing off the dinosaurs doesn’t automatically stop them from ever being made again--especially when Biosyn still exists--but also, again, how the hell is that supposed to solve the problem? It's not. The whole point of the Jurassic franchise is to basically say "hey, we have no control over nature and it's stupid to believe that we do." Meaning, that by the scientists just simply looking at the dinosaurs, seeing all the deaths take place and thinking "okay, this was a bad idea" and then exterminate the dinosaurs, news flash, doesn't mean they learned anything. They have to live up to their mistakes and in a world where bringing dinosaurs back to life is actually possible, obviously, killing off every "rogue" dinosaur or any sort of danger to the planet won't solve anything and nobody would learn anything from it. You don't learn by ignoring your mistakes, you learn by embracing your mistakes. And second, again, we have lots of carnivorous, poisonous, venomous, bloodthirsty animals on this planet; does that mean they all deserve to die? Again, no because that wouldn't solve a damn thing. And same with some of the dinosaurs--and no, I'm not just talking about the herbivores--are actually dangerous, meaning that unless you don't provoke them or their families, there's really nothing to worry about. People actually believing that killing off all the dinosaurs as if it's gonna magically erase all the problems from the past, I'm sorry, is just stupid. You can't erase something like the existence of something like fucking dinosaurs and then open a case of scotch so you can have a good day. No, people need to live with the realization that we brought these dinosaurs back to life, so now let's fucking live with it because there's no going back now. It's just basic common sense. Also, none of the people that died are gonna just magically come back to life because we killed the dinosaurs. Again, you don't learn by ignoring your mistakes, you learn by embracing your mistakes. Also, in regards to Maisie being a clone, I will admit that it was a little out there for me and not as interesting as bringing extinct animals back to life, but then I thought about the locusts in Dominion--which, keep in mind I will admit that I'm not that invested in that part of the movie, even though I overall love the movie and I'm not saying I hate the locust part--and one very important question: if you could successfully bring back an extinct animal, why stop there? Also, Iris literally mothering Maisie IS possible; just look at Mrs. Potts in Beauty and the Beast. Also, did people fucking forget that Jurassic World is a TRILOGY? Of course they're gonna make another movie, even if Fallen Kingdom was a major flop. 😂

So... this is going to be long! (Multiple parts!) "If I were to go through every single little nitpick against this movie, I could easily be here for 3 hours". Okay, then what about the criticisms those reviewers bring up that aren't nitpicks? Are you just going to ignore those? There's no shortage of ones I could bring your attention to. Are you implying that the criticisms from these reviewers are merely "opinions on subjective art"? You do realize objective statements can be made about a film, such as detailing information on characters, plot, and technical aspects such as cinematography, sound, and editing. It's not "subjective" that a Dr. Grant distracts the T.rex with a flare in Jurassic Park for example. And for the record, this is what you are attempting to do by responding to the criticisms of this movie. You aren't providing your opinion when you're saying things like "invalid" and providing defenses as if they were facts about the movie, e.g. 'this makes sense because of this [reference]'. Now let's respond to your responses: 10. The Indoraptor itself may have been a prototype, but it's ability to be used as a weapon by activating the laser mechanism to trigger an attack was clearly one of the main selling points of the animal. Similar to how in the statement before this, they champion the fact that it has a "heightened sense of smell" (except when it couldn't find Owen, Claire and Maisie hiding feet below it when it was on top of the ceratopsian skull - a trait you even acknowledge it didn't use very well). Both of these abilities are described as the Indoraptor's "biospecs" by Eversoll. Regardless of it being attached to a gun, the laser-targeting ability is not merely a demonstration of its potential to "follow human commands", they're explicitly highlighting what the animal is designed for. In terms of your additional defense that it could be used to take out multiple enemies, and those around corners, without alerting the enemy... that just doesn't hold up. You think the sounds of a rabid Indoraptor chasing after its enemies wouldn't alert them of its presence when in close proximity? It's also an enormous target, and not exactly stealthy compared to other, more efficient military means. Furthermore, if the laser basically controls what the Indoraptor targets, why didn't Claire, at the end, aim it at the ground so the creature would just jump to its death? Does it only work if the laser is directly locked on to an organism and not an inanimate object? You certainly seem to believe so. It was shown at the auction that this seemed to be the case, Eversoll demonstrating that the "laser sets the target" that was the "prey". So then how is it supposed to target and hunt down enemies that are inside vehicles and obstructed from view? Or around corners/in bunkers/buildings with no clear line of sight? Would someone just send it in and hope for the best? How is it supposed to differentiate between killing enemies and accidentally killing hostages for example? What is the range of the laser? Would the Indoraptor even be able to see what it's supposed to be targeting at a long distance? Can you imagine how awkward it would be trying to transport and deploy this creature, close enough to the enemy that the laser can direct it to a target, without being attacked first? Will the Indoraptor obey every command given to it, regardless of self-preservation? What if it decides not to attack out of fear for its own welfare? Or because it can't get a lock on what it's supposed to be targeting? Who the hell knows, everything is so vague. And finally, they could have literally just shown Claire attempting to try and aim the laser off the roof and it not working, confirming inanimate object don't work, but they didn't. She didn't even try it as an option. If the film had shown her attempting to do this and it not working, at least it would have highlighted that Claire tried thinking outside-the-box so to speak. This would then demonstrate directly that she had no other choice but to target Owen. But this still wouldn't explain the issue of how it would target obscured enemies. This also raises another issue. When she aims the laser to target Owen, she guides it across the Indoraptor’s head. Why not just shoot it instead?! 9. Just because Sorna had geothermal power, this does not equate to it being as geologically unstable and dangerous as the situation regarding the volcano on Nublar. And if it's important enough to be addressed in canon material outside of the movie, it should have been addressed in the film in the first place. A movie shouldn't need external help to explain a crucial element of its plot before watching it. This is lazy storytelling, plain and simple. Having the island be Sorna that Lockwood planned to transport the dinosaurs too would have made more sense, rather than the revelation there's this other "sanctuary" island to put them on instead. What are the details of this place exactly? It's never even mentioned where it is. Did it ever even exist? Was it all a ruse for Mills' nefarious dinosaur auction later? We have no idea. 8. I think the backlash surrounding Zara's death in Jurassic World was more so to do with how unnecessarily brutal it was to a fairly bland character with barely any screentime. Personally, I don't have too much of an issue with it because, in the context of the Jurassic universe, in that situation it could have been anyone. They aren't going to solely eat 'bad guys'. But back to the main point, while it’s true Claire did go through somewhat of a character change/arc in Jurassic World, the bigger question with Claire is how she managed to avoid any repercussions or backlash after the Indominus disaster, which ultimately led to the destruction of the park. Where is her responsibility in all of this? The film just hopes you forget that she basically got away scot-free. In terms of Owen's decision not to save Blue, then changing his mind... why? He was perfectly apathetic and contempt with abandoning Blue on the island for around 3 years. He even says to Claire that Mills called him, so Owen is aware of the plan to rescue the dinosaurs, but he still didn't care. But then he decides after watching his baby raptor videos, that he wants to rescue her? He's had all this time to do this, he doesn't even know if she's alive! Where was your empathy before all this?! "The hat didn't hide her identity; it was to make herself appear to be another worker there"... Right, almost as if the aim was pretending to be someone else... kind of what hiding your identity implies... To say that the mercenaries on the Arcadia might not have necessarily known who Claire was, is ridiculous. We see Wheatley and his group of mercenaries, after they captured Blue, at the loading dock where Owen, Claire and Franklin end up. Everyone there involved with Wheatley would definitely have been aware of what happened. This was literally their plan from the beginning: to double-cross the good guys. You'd think when she gets out of the truck it might have raised an eyebrow. And yet somehow, conveniently, not one of them, including Wheatley's men he took with him, noticed her... Right... 7. "The Indoraptor is a sadist that takes its time with its prey" Except when it's a violent, relentless killing machine that chases its prey (e.g. Owen, Claire and Maisie)... And I guess the Indoraptor somehow knew that Wheatley would enter its cage, so it faked being tranquilized? There was a deleted scene that could have set all this up (how the Indoraptor's cage was in darkness because the light burned out, and when a technician went in to replace it, they learned the hybrid needed 3 darts to be fully tranquillized instead of 2, hence the remains of the technician’s skull, and watching the tape back they learned that the Indoraptor has purposely broken the light). "The Indoraptor takes delight in its victim's misery", so exactly how is it supposed to be an effective and efficient killing machine designed to take out enemies if it takes its time to kill them? The Indoraptor smile was absolutely intentional. It knows it is tricking Wheatley, toying with him. It does it twice, including cheekily raising and dropping its tail before finally biting his arm off. You were literally arguing earlier that the Indoraptor was a sadist, taking delight with killing its victims, so this gesture is totally in-character with what you were saying, right? Even though it's completely contradictory. I agree that deleted scenes that set up this idea that the Indoraptor developed this kind of behavior should have been included in the movie for context, but they weren't, and it comes across as a worser movie as a result without this explanation.

6. The issue with a lot of the action sequences in Fallen Kingdom is that they are riddled with plot convenience, contrivance and tonally borked by adding humorous moments which didn't need to be there. I'll name a few examples: The opening sequence gets a lot of praise, but I have a 40-minute video on my channel critiquing how objectively awful that scene really is using references from the film. The volcano sequence is ridiculous considering how Owen survives a pyroclastic flow unscathed, literally an impossible feat. And during the auction when the Stygimoloch is loose, it's shot like a comedy film, showing it whacking people into the air almost like a cartoon. It's not enough to say that "familiar elements fused with new ones" or that it's "unlike anything we've seen before" automatically makes it good, it's about the execution of how they're utilized. Also, the Brachiosaurus scene unfortunately comes across as very manipulative and contradictory considering it didn't even have the foresight to at least jump into the sea to escape the smoke? We literally see Brachiosaurus' in a lake in Jurassic Park! It's not unreasonable to assume they can swim! 5. Themes on their own doesn't make a movie good, regardless of if the story makes no sense. It all comes down to execution and intent. Star Wars: The Last Jedi has many themes it tries to squash into its runtime, but that doesn't change the fact, from a story and writing perspective, it is an extremely poorly made film. You don’t have to look far for reviews and critiques discussing in detail the copious number of objective problems riddled throughout it. 4. It's not very well explained because they're selling the dinosaurs at the auction, but at the same time, there's also vials of dinosaur embryos that people are taking as well? Why aren't they being sold off? Does every buyer get a complimentary suitcase of embryos with every purchase? Furthermore, these buyers aren't exactly scientists with a means of creating more dinosaurs from scratch. Word isn't exactly going to get far when people attempt to transport these dinosaurs across borders too... Also, were these embryos the ones from Wu when he was taken off the island in Jurassic World? If so, why wasn't there I.rex DNA in there? That would have negated the need to go to the island at the beginning of the film in the first place. 3. People disagreeing with Ian Malcolm's sentiment at the end that humans and dinosaurs will be forced to co-exist isn't a jab at Malcolm per say, but the movie telling us that this is the situation, when there are many valid points suggesting this isn't the 'Planet of the Dinosaurs' style chaos the movie wants us to believe it is. The DPG is given barely any screentime in the movie, and it would have been interesting to include a scene, similar to the lunch scene in Jurassic Park, where there was some sort of direct debate between people on the two opposing sides, explaining their reasonings. But instead, their points of view are only explored in external marketing material, which isn't in the movie. They explored this 'should they live vs. should they die' debate more thoroughly and competently in Jurassic Park: The Game for goodness sake! Nearly 13 years ago! 2. The criticism isn't that it wasn't set-up that there was something unique about Maisie (they literally have Mills spell out to the characters through awkward exposition), the criticism is that her being a clone is completely pointless other than simply providing some ridiculous reason for someone to let the dinosaurs free later. It's like the writers had to work backwards from them wanting dinosaurs loose in the wild. I can just imagine how it went down: 'How do we do that? We have to have someone let them free. But no one in their right minds would do something like that because it's borderline crazy. Why don't we have the girl be a clone? Then she can relate to them!' Utterly ludicrous. 1. Are you seriously arguing she sees more sympathy for the violent carnivores that would kill her in an instant more so than people, and that's why she let them out? Think about this, if it meant that releasing them lead to people she loved like Iris or Lockwood being killed for example, or even more suffering if they began killing each other and countless other organisms, you really think she would have done it? No. She's clearly intelligent, given how she sneaks around the mansion, so how does she not take all this into account? The conflict Claire has with ultimately deciding not to release them is fine with me (although if the gas was killing them, she should have just opened the big door first to let the gas dissipate, instead of opening the cages. Dinosaurs have huge lungs, they might not have all survived, but it's better than releasing them!). All in all, I can agree that certain elements of the movie were well done (CGI - for the most part, cinematography, acting - for the most part), but in conclusion, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is the very definition of lazy and contrived writing. A film filled to the brim with conveniences solely to push the plot along, even if it makes absolutely no sense from a logical or story perspective. Coupled with terribly written dialogue that is so stilted and awkward, boring one-dimensional characters with no depth or realism, stupid decisions, and an amalgamation of completely conflicting tones, creating unnecessary comedic moments in scenes that should be evoking tension and suspense, the film fails on nearly every level of storytelling. Superficial elements such as slick cinematography, decent CGI and interesting production design doesn’t save the terrible story, world-building and characters.

But even with or without this movie, you can tell the island was now restricted as mentioned in JP3 and was now public knowledge in The Lost World since the San Diego incident, given that people will still invade the island, and would cause more ecological destruction than ever. This is why they never mentioned or ask why they couldn’t put the dinosaurs on Sorna because there’s no reason for them to mention what happened to Sorna since it has been a decade. We don’t want too much exposition dumps the same way Independence Day: Resurgence did which the film was set 20 years after the first Harvester Invasion. Pick your poison. Secondly, what makes you think volcanic eruptions aren’t that explosive? Haven’t you heard of the 2022 eruption that happened in the South Pacific? That blast could’ve covered an entire continent of Europe, and besides, Nublar was 9 miles in diameter even explosive eruptions, like Mount St Hellens, could cause more devastation to the entire island. Thirdly, the Indominus didn’t kill off a lot of dinosaurs, that would’ve been ridiculous, she only killed dozens of herbivores shown in Jurassic World. While I’m aware that invasive species do cause a lot of problems to the native environment, they don’t instantly wipe out the native population in a single day. And if the Bernese pythons have invaded Florida, then why didn’t the Alligator population disappear in a single day? I know the I-Rex is a hybrid, but she’s not a non-sapient super villain.

1- they didn't need to mention it, that would have been too exposition. 2- you'd be VERY surprised how destructive volcanoes can be. In 1815, Mount Tambora erupted on Sumbawa, an island of modern-day Indonesia. Historians regard it as the volcano eruption with the deadliest known direct impact: roughly 100,000 people died in the immediate aftermath. and that was with an area FAR, FAR larger than nublar. 3- unlike the indominus dinosaurs aren't just mindless savage monsters. they are animals that mostly just eat what they need.

I just roll my eyes at these idiots over the "high heels running" thing. We're talking about a futuristic amusement park that has an active volcano with fictious hybrid dinosaurs and Claire's shoes is where they draw the f'kin line??? Good god. No wonder we can't have nice things. I wasn't too hot on Fallen Kingdom to begin with but post-domion I think it's not a bad number at all. I like all 3 of the World movies. Top stuff.

Also, Bryce Dallas Howard trained to run in those heels and while I'm not saying it wouldn't be easy, it's far from being impossible. 😂
