FWIW, I help run the Irish Whiskey Society of America, and I wanted to thank you for the fair and honest review of Irish Whiskey. One of our stated goals is to get folks off the "shot of Jameson" bandwagon and more into appreciation of the wide range of IW available. It's videos like this that really help us in that effort, so once again, thank you.

As an Irish Gaelic speaker GLENDALOUGH is an Anglicization from Glenn Dá Loch (Glenn dawh lock) which means Valley of Two Lakes. It is a place in County Wicklow, Ireland known for its ancient monastery founded by St. Kevin (Naomh CaoimhÍn=Neeve Qwiveen) CAOIMHÍN was too hard for the English to say so the said Kevin instead. I am an American of Irish decent, who is conversational in Irish Gaelic. I use the language almost daily on-line and I have been published in IRSH in the "Irish Times" in Dublin. Great show!! I was in Salou in Spain last week. I found Jameson 12 year old Special Reserve in a shop for €40. They had loads of bottles of it. I haven’t come across it anywhere in Ireland and the only place you can really get it is in a speciality whiskey shop for €135!!! I’ve commented about this before but I honestly can’t get over how readily available Irish whiskeys are outside of Ireland when you can barely get them in Ireland.
@cmdrmeldoc596 жыл бұрын
Depending on your experience with stout, you can definitely get the imperial stout and normal stout notes in the Jameson whiskey. I disagree with Daniel, because it gets more complexity than normal Jameson for me. I get some wonderful and delicious coffe and chocolate notes with it. I absolutely love that whisky, because it feels like I have a Jameson stout, and it feels amazing! Try some stouts and do some Jameson Caskmates after that!

I have been meaning to write and mention this since the first episode but figured it was already said but Writers Tears Copper Pot is very underwhelming and a tad watery BUT and this is a very large BUT Writers Tears Cask Strength is my absolute favorite and all it is, is a less diluted version and what you guys should really get your hands on. What an excellent long one. A lot of good insights. The selection of Irish whiskies in NC is just sad, one shelf in our local ABC, so I just went for it and got the Redbreast 12. I would love to see this but i would not recommend it. They are selling a product. There will be bias. It will also affect their reputation as well. So you are at the fence. Say truthfully and people will not buy yr product? Lets say you are being vague in your reviews, its still a grey area where the outcome can be anything. Or trying to sugar coat and get caught because there are many good reviews and pros out there. It can potentially open a can of worms any other way. Wont know how people will perceive and act on this so its not worth the risk. The biggest risk factor is the audience. Its not worth the trouble.

Having spent 3 weeks in Ireland this past summer, I wish I'd had a lot more opportunities to sample around. Irish Whiskey Museum in Dublin was awesome for the knowledge and humor of the guides who clearly love Irish whiskey. Does reversing the order of adding a splash of water to the whisky, to adding whisky to a splash of water change the experience of the whisky? I ask this because one night I did this and the whisky tasted completly differfent, was it me or was I drunk? Gr Alexander

Stout vs Porter: Stout is typically made with roasted unmalted barley. Porter is made with malted barley. Just a tidbit for the nerds out there.
@memyself8986 жыл бұрын
I've made dozens of stouts and never used unmalted barley.
@joelgossmann53476 жыл бұрын
I'll edit my comment to say "typically" made with roasted unmalted barley. Historically stout and porter were terms used for the same thing. A "Stout porter" was simply a porter with a higher ABV. In modern times the roasted unmalted barley distinction is made because otherwise there is nothing to separate the styles. So sure, you could call your brew a stout but I would call it a porter. Neither of us would be wrong because terminology in beer is just as mixed up as the word "Rye" is here in Alberta. Cheers!
