as for why Giovanni keeps jesse and james around: James comes from a wealthy family, so he keeps him around for founds, as for Jesse, their mothers were close friends, when Giovanni's mother, who was the boss of team rocket at the time, sent Jesse's mother on a mission to capture mew and want MIA on a avalanche, Madame boss, Giovanni's mother secretly helped raise her and Giovanni may know it so, in a way Jesse is Giovanni's foster sister

My favourite anime villain has to be Greed from FMA:B. He was always my favourite of the Homunculi, from his personality to just being a general BAMF. He’s still evil, but he cares for his allies and is probably the most ‘human’ out of the Homunculi, to the point where he had no problem going against Father and flipping him the double bird the whole while,

Then B&W happened and they were...actually good at their jobs when Ash wasn't around to plot them into the sky? It was a surprise, to be sure.

I, at one point was actually pretty interested in them when (like Ash) the Team Rocket Trio *also* wanted to take down Team Flare and that one scene with both teams spying on a new Legendary Pokemon was so very intense. Another reason why it was interesting is that Team Flare wanted to nuke the world because every member of Team Flare is a Nazi allegory and Team Rocket wanted to *take over* the world, not destroy it.

I really missed Hiei from Yu Yu Hakusho on this list. I mean, he was one of the first real villains Yusuke had to face shortly after taking on the duty of Spirit Detective. According to an interview with the creator, Hiei wasn't supposed to appear again after his defeat, but the fans loved him SO MUCH that the creator put him back into the show as an ally. *That's* a likeable villain if I've ever seen one. Hiei even scored either 2nd or 3rd on a popularity poll two decades or so back asking anime lovers which male character OF ALL ANIME at that time was their favorite.

Two things that come to mind as difference between Shou Tucker and Envy for why Tuker is loathed by the fandom and Envy not (or at least less so) is, 1) Tucker was presented to us initially as a good guy. We thought he was a doting single dad (ala Huges), only for him to turn around and use *his own child* in a horrific experiment, betraying our (and Ed's) trust. Envy never tried to be anything they weren't. They were never shown to be a good buy, they were evil from the outset. 2) Tucker tries to act like he was in the right for what he did, like he did nothing wrong. Especially since the Nina incident was the *second* time he did that (the first time being his wife). Meanwhile Envy owns being an evil bastard. They're like 'yeah I did it so what?' They never try to act like they were in the right or did nothing wrong. Also Envy's just a snarky bastard and fun to watch.

I like Dabi but I've never been okay with this idea that this was all Endeavor's fault. Always felt like that removed some of Dabi's own agency. Yeah, Endeavor fucked up. Yeah, Endeavor did a lot of fucking up. But Dabi still had to make the choice to be a villain. Dabi still had to make the choice to kill innocent people or put them in harm's way. Endeavor was raising Toya to be a hero until he learned that Toya's body couldn't handle his own flames. Dabi chose to take the lessons and used them to be a villain. Dabi had a choice. Maybe it wasn't a good one, but it was still a choice. He could've stayed quiet and lived out the remainder of his days in peace. Instead, he picked violence.

Let’s just say considering the fact that he just physically beat up shoto merely from season 2 and that he feels a lot of resentment of his father for the neglect and abuse he took it for granted, he deserves to be next to dr. veil, bill hawkes, porky Minch and even jasper batt junior for such ruthlessly unlikeable.

Exactly! Saying that it was all Endeavor's fault is like saying all the horrors Ed Gein or John Wayne Gacy did was all because of their horrible upbringings. That is a good start, but at some point it's all on you. Your dad was abusive and you stabbed a kid in school? That shit is on you. Your dad didn't make you do it. You did. Dabi killed innocents and heroes, he isn't likable. Gentle Criminal and La Brava would have made way more sense. Or Twice.
@xpatkichanx2 жыл бұрын
I am with you right until your last sentence. I think it was Toya's choice to kill innocent people and become a villian, BUT he did it only to expose what his father did to the family! If Dabi/Toya lived a quiet live somewhere he could have escaped the family but what about his siblings and mother who would still be trapped if Enji never had a change of heart? And even if he changed, is it right to just forget what he has done in the past with the public/authoraties being non the wiser? No, it's not! So to me Touya could have gone with a different approach but I think he did perfectly fine to expose what Endeavor has done to his family

I gotta ask how far you got into it, if you watched the show. Sometimes I've felt that it's a bit slow, a bit too melodramatic, sometimes even a little contrived, but then you get fights like Nomu vs All Might and everything that came before feels like it needed to be there for those fights to land HARD. It's not even just that the fights themselves are good, but they have this meaty emotional payoff that comes together into an experience unrivaled in Shonen anime. There are just so many fights later on that feel like this, but Nomu vs All Might is the first and even if I'm not the show's biggest fan, I do not think it's fair to judge the show without having reached and watched that fight.

Garp and Sengoku are not villains though, yes they serve the World Government, but they very much see themselves as the heroes and so do the general populace for the most part. you need to remember that outside of the Straw Hats, about 95% of pirate crews are bad guys, who are malicious and cruel, for the most part aside from some bad eggs the Marines are the good guys, hence why Luffy and CO generally dont kill Marines, they just kick their asses as much as they need to. same goes with Fujitora, while he is new to me as i only am now finishing Zou, i can tell he is a good man, who chose blindness over seeing the evil within the world, he is far from being a bad guy.
@LupineShadowOmega2 жыл бұрын
@@UltimateGamerCC I wouldn't go that far. Tons of Pirates are literally just adventurers and they are labeled pirates by the World Government in an attempt to control them. Heck, we've seen them do it to both an expeditionary excursion as well as a group of biologist and anthropologists. And that's ignoring the crews that don't even engage in active piracy like the Straw Hats. Or some of the ones that have other plans, like say opening a floating restaurant or are just navy for countries that don't want to associate with the World Government. The list kind of goes on. Plus, I'd argue how many of those hundreds that set out looking for the One Piece are still active? Or even alive? The One Piece world is dangerous and pirates could easily be the least of people's worries depending on what part of the world they're in.

I would love to see a top 10 of the worst/best changes from manga to anime! Especelly a best list to remember that sometimes, changes can be good!
@kadajsnightqueen2 жыл бұрын
So glad to see an AniAmer Too 10! You always put out the absolute best anime countdowns, and I’ve missed seeing new ones being posted every few months like they were before! Excellent insights and points for your choices as usual! One villain I love is Yuuya Kizami from Corpse Party. In the anime he kind of goes directly from an apparently-sweet guy protecting Yuka while she looks for Satoshi to the crazed killer, but the series glossed over a bunch of events (not to mention killed characters who weren’t supposed to die…), and Kizami is one of them. In the games and manga, his character is much more interesting. He’s the typical high school laze-about loner, the guy on the fringe by choice who is nonetheless adored by his classmates through no actions on his part. The boys look up to him and regard him warmly, and the girls mostly like him because he’s handsome and he has this cool persona about him. Kizami has a one-sided rivalry with the class idol Kai Shimada (meaning Kai hates him and wants to prove he’s better; Kizami couldn’t care less), and because he won a bet, he had to model for one issue of Kai’s magazine publisher, and the resulting issue broke sales records thanks to his picture on the cover. But behind his cool mask, Kizami is a sociopath who fails to see the point in much of anything, and hates most of the things in his life but especially his older siblings for the way they treated him as a kid, especially his sister Haruna. He keeps a pretty firm leash on his dark side for the most part, but once he’s transported to HHES, he lets go. Cunning and intelligent, he can keep that side hidden when necessary, but he relishes letting his bloodthirsty dark side, his “true self,” run loose at long last. Nothing matters, everyone is going to die, and he can finally do as he pleases instead of pretending to act nice. How much of this is him and how much is the Darkening’s influence varies from game to game to manga, but he’s susceptible nonetheless. Ultimately he kills several of his friends using a knife Kai had brought to kill him, after the other boy is killed by the resident ghosts. Yuka’s presence pushes him further along in the darkness, but in both the manga and Book of Shadows, he finds himself wondering what he would have been like if he actually had a little sister, and regrets not being a better “big brother.” In BoS especially, Yuka’s worrying that he has a headache and offer of painkillers while he’s getting ready to torture her awakens a kind of compassion in him. He’s never felt like anyone actually cared about him for real, not for their own benefit or superiority or anything, and he’s free from his inner darkness for a few precious moments. But then Yoshikazu kills him, and the promise of a redemption is snatched away. No matter which version it is, Yuuya is killed by the Hammer Man at Sachiko’s orders and turned into the Anatomical Model, a fate even worse than most of the deaths suffered around HHES. I love this guy as much as Best Boi Yoshiki. He’s a fascinating character who weaves in and out of the overall narrative in the present and the prologue, someone capable of protection who prefers to destroy, and he has one of the best development arcs in the whole of Corpse Party. It’s just a shame the anime short-changed him on that front.

As someone who started Fullmetal Alchemist by reading the manga, I can’t be the only one who thought Envy was a girl. Right? Like they (“they”, because Envy in androgynous in the manga) had a ton of feminine mannerisms and just generally a very feminine design with their long hair and choice in clothing.

For my hero academia, my favorite is tomura. He and touya, had screwed up childhoods. Tomura was a young kid born with a destructive quirk that he ended up accidentally killing his family with, and then got brainwashed by the big bad, all for one, to be the biggest villain, only to now ( spoilers)…….be used as a vessel. Both tomura and dabi are victims of how hero society works. The dirty little secrets they try to keep hidden to maintain their clean image. The plans for chaos are evil, but you can understand where all this anger is coming from. They were neglected and had no other option but transform into villains. Dabi is completely dead to almost any feeling except making his dad suffer. Tomura is more emotional and got attached to the league and wanting to live in a world they would like. I

Kagura was definitely my favorite of all of Inu-Yasha's villains, because she had depth; she grew, and changed as a character; in the end, leaving the world, not as just another piece of Naraku, but free, and as her own person. She even developed the capacity to care for others. Although (like Sheshomaru), she was much too strong, to openly display any warm feelings towards anyone. I think I liked her better than him, as a villain, because she always seemed so much more alive, than him. So much more passionate.

They were space explorers who got on the wrong place at the wrong time, then got possesed by evil space aliens who warp their minds until the host is definitely dying, and Blade and his younger sister were the only two to both survive and keep their humanity intact because their dying father sacrificed himself to try to save them but only lived long enough to stop the two from being possessed. Seeing the eventual love shown once the parasites leave their hosts is still heartbreaking. Even more by the fact that the twist in Blade's inherent design as a fighter. It hurts my heart.

For my personal favorite like able villain the answer has to be Kolulu from Konjiki no Gash. In both the manga and anime versions she was a minor but really important and tragic villain. Basically she was a six year old demon girl, same age as the titular protagonist Gash sent to the human world to fight in a tournament for the next demon king. The thing is Kolulu is a *pacifist* and her spells were modified specifically to cause her to go on rampages of destruction with her teammate the 14 year old Shiori being forced to using Kolulu’s soellbook in order to keep her new adopted sister safe. The battle between Kiyomaru and Gash against Shiori and Kolulu left me a broken mess as a child and the battle was the tipping point for Gash to fight in order to be a kind king. That series may have some repetitive life lessons but whenever there is a battle it hits hard and this is far from the only one to make me cry.

Seriously, my Moonie friends and I were cheering one second and then crying instantly the next. A few of use were legit broken because we didn't know how to think or feel lol. I am just going to say this right now that I would have been fine with them killing off the generals, but how they did it . . . . I didn't like it. Not even a minute after 'waking up' does Metallia kill out boys off. I wanted to at least see some hugging/kissing action and Metallia then starts attacking and the Kings end up dying protecting the scouts. For me, that's how that scene should have been handled.

Glad to see that you’ve recovered from Covid, God blesses you. A good video, been awhile since we last saw one. Of course I guessed that we’ll wait for another long time, but who to blame? So you’ll go to Japan one of these days? Well, that’s good, but let me advice you of what I learned from videos: first of all, you can’t eat and walking at the same time, Japanese people consider it as bad manners. Don’t talk in your phone on the train, it bothers the passengers. Don’t sit on the ground outside, it considers an act of delinquency. Don’t ever wear perfumes since it bothers people, but you can use deodorant. There are still more I like to explain but there are videos in KZbin that may help. Stay healthy.

Interesting list and Dabi is definitely up there. My pick though, whom I hoped would be on here, would be Fyodor Dostoyevksy and Nikolai Gogol from Bungo Stray Dogs...These two spread a ton of chaos for both the ADA and the Port Mafia, especially Fyodor in season 3 and in later chapters of the manga. Also I tend to just love the crazy people. Speaking of Port Mafia, I might as well also include them too especially since my best boy Chuuya is part of that group. Though Mori is just no, the rest have their own personalities and they do whatever they can to protect Yokohama for their own reasons, even side with the Armed Detective Agency. Also personally, Dazai had his start in the Port Mafia and tends to work best while there (in my opinion anyway). The light novel villains (and this includes Shibusawa from the Dead Apple movie as that was turned into a light novel) are also especially interesting.

11:55 well in the anime the reason Goku took the win was actually cause Freeza had an underhanded tactic and managed to kill Vegeta and destroy Earth, but God of Destruction Teacher managed to get everyone else of the gang to safety and somehow managed to reverse time to before Vegeta was killed and Goku stepped in before Vegeta died.

Im so glad Xellos was an HM. His arc with the Slayers anime was so great. He was introduced as this "Mysterious Priest after the Claire Bible" and while we had our suspicions on who he was, the anime portrayed itself and him as like a backburner character that appears in some moments of the anime (this is mainly for Season 2 of Slayers called Next since this was his introduction season). As the season went on we learned that he was in fact a Monster and he was trying to get the Claire Bible I believe for his boss at the time (she was this lady who I believe is the mother of all monsters). And he does end up joining Lina and her party on some adventures but it doesnt just stop there. The next season Try has him beginning as a villain but then he quickly swapped back onto the good side since he was playing a trick apparently. And then the final 2 seasons Revolution and Evolution-R was where Xellos took a 180. He starts off as a hardcore villain and I mean he is not holding his punches when he fights his old comrades since he has been alive for over a thousand years and its only towards the very end where we realize that Xellos was once again working as a good guy but he was just up to his Mysterious Priest ways and in doing so he almost freaking DIED (Dude was literally left alive with just his head, how do monsters survive wtf????)

In the novels Xellos wasn't as prevalent but featured more in the anime as he was popular. Basically Shabranigdu has 5 subordinates and each one has a priest and general. However Greater Beast Zelas Metallium decided to just make a priest who was twice as strong as normal. That's why Xellos is so much stronger than nearly everyone else.

it's one of the reasons i love the Todoroki family writing. endeavor abused them all but only one went down this path. Fuyumi is just trying to hold things together. Natsuo is avoiding dealing with it. Shoto was treated just as Dabi was for the most part and is choosing heroism and trying to give endeavor a chance to change, which i agree isn't completely deserved but well written. someone, (i don't remember who) said it well when they said that once endeavor gained no.1 a veil was lifted in his mind letting him see what he'd done. Shoto is choosing to move forward with one final chance of his father becoming a father. it's a great writing on how differently abuse victims deal with it. some hide away, some ignore, some move forward, and some can't let go. it's well done in my opinion being a victim doesn't mean you have the right to hurt those who did nothing to you. being a victim doesn't mean you become the villain. being a victim does not take away your ability to choose between right a wrong. Dabi CHOSE to kill. Dabi CHOSE to be a villain. Dabi CHOSE to do everything he did. being a victim of abuse does NOT mean you become the abuser. dabi CHOSE to be. endeavor is not a good person, but he is merely the catalyst to dabi's choice, not the the force behind it. he did not FORCE Dabi's decision. yes, Dabi is a victim. but one that chose evil. his actions aren't excusable, only understandable I'm particularly excited to see how anime only fans react this season as this arc in the manga is ripe with subtle endeavor redemption (not fully earned but he's trying)

As far as the Shitennou go, I liked both the iterations of Crystal/manga and the original (Shout out to the SNES RPG!), but my favorites have to be the versions presented in Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon. The Live action. They may have been a bit more campy, but I loved the elegance of Zoisite and I loved how Nephrite was just a big old socially inept excitable dude. Jadeite and Kunzite also were all around fun and they did work well together. It's not true to the Manga, and messes with some things, but I still enjoy it.
