I thought the variable Venturi 351W was only offered in the US from 84-91 on Panther wagons with the towing package or any variety of any body style of fleet Panthers…mostly police/fire department cars. They switched to the 4.6 modular in 92 with the aero Vics/Marquis.

You are still learning and doing your homework. This was another great effort. The more you do, the more you will learn. The car you said was Buick LeSabre was in fact the Buick Electra Park Avenue from 1980-1984. The downsized era from GM when they switched to front wheel drive was 1985-1991. They downsized from 1985-1987 model years. They started upsizing in 1989. The Pontiac Safari was the Bonneville Safari until 1981. Then it became Pontiac Parisienne Safari 1983-1986. Then it was Safari 1987-1989. You showed the right wagon. I was shocked you did not mention Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser wagon as it was long for years. It was on the 1990's GM B-Body 1991-1992. I do like how you discussed Lincoln Town Car how the name changed. I appreciate you liking Oldsmobile and giving the Ninety-Eight screen time. I liked how you detailed the length change and how much was lost. I thought the R Body Chrysler New Yorker was nice looking. The Chrysler R Bodies were not around very long. There is a large Cadillac sedan. It is the CT6. It is sold in China. It is not sold in the United States. Here it is: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aonaqJ-beMymnZo

In case I miss the poll I'll take the Safari over the Ford. Though not an option, I'd take a Buick Estate over either. My friend's mom had an '85 for years and loved it. The rear-facing seat was kinda cool for a few minutes as a kid. After I began feeling a bit sick. And staring at the people behind you was just weird. The final B-bodies were definitely better looking. Keep up the great work! 👍

First car out of high school was a 77 Buick LeSabre that absolutely floated down the road, my good buddy had the same car but an 82-83 and it's the closest thing to my 97-04 LeSabre's and park aves than it was to my 77 LeSabre it was a lot alike as far as looks but indeed the ride was compromised for the last of the good looking square body sedans gm produced. Keep up the good work my guy you are constantly reminding me of the good ol days when it was second nature to fix your own stuff and not just replace it. Hang with it. Have grown up in the 1980s, we had a new 1981 Town Car Signature Series and my friends father got the 1981 Mark with the great programmable digital dash telling us when we would arrive at Beaver Lake and adjusting automatically when you stopped for food or gas. I think dad paid around 21k and my friends dad paid 23k for his Mark. I grew up thinking a 5.0 producing 150 to 225 hp was crazy high power. ( 55 saves lives)

My dad had a 80’s Cadillac El Delrado with a diesel engine in it. That damn thing was odd but cool at the same time. Had to keep it plugged in during the winter, it smoked, took an hour to go from 0-60. But it had digital display for dash, radio and climate controls, real leather seats, rode smooth as hell and got great gas mileage.

The K-car Chryslers sold well because the body had crisp, sharp lines; the paint on these cars not only looked good, but it was good paint... lasted longer than the engine. The vinyl top also looked more luxurious than other contemporaries. They were just different... in a good way. These cars were also optioned very well, even a base model LeBaron was very comfortable, great stereo sound, and good A/C. The interiors looked crisp and modern, the quality wasn't bad, I remember the brushed chrome finish on the stereo/HVAC panels/buttons would start to flake-off a little bit. Folks loved the faux woody LeBaron wagons and convertibles; it was the 80s, we had faux wood finish on everything... Ataris, Betamaxes, microwaves, TVs... cars. The faux wood on these Chryslers just... looked good somehow. And, these cars handled very well, especially in snow. They were very easy to drive and park.

The big reason why the 1979-1981 full size Chrysler Corp cars were so big is because they rode on the outdated B Body platform. The B Body was Chrysler Corp's mid size car, which included ones like the Charger, Cordoba, and Road Runner. By 1977, the B Body was big for a mid size car. Chrysler Corp didn't have enough money to come out with an all-new full size platform in the late 70s, so they decided to use the B Body platform for their new 1979 full size cars.

I really do love these old boats (they were the 70's but greatly rationalized and improved - except perhaps in looks). Unfortunately none of them make sense where I live. Store parking lots have ridiculously small and narrow spaces, and my own neighborhood is full of narrow serpentine streets. Parking garages? Forget it. The longest car I've had in 20 years was 203", and that felt a little big - not on the road, but wherever I ended up. In more recent times as I've changed up, length more than anything else has kept me from the likes of the 7 series (possibly the best used car bargain around if you don't mind maintaining it) or A8 vs. the 5 or the A6.

Great video as alwwye man. Im weird but i love 80s cars, especially these big sedans. I really dig the GM b bodies and the Chryeler R bodies. The Panther is great too, as a guy that isnt a Ford fan, ill admit that these panther cars are the only fords made in the last 40-50 years thwt i would consider owning. GM and Ford had the capital that Chrysler didnt in the early 80s and smartly held on to the big full size sedans. A decision that would pay off ss the 80s went on, as the economy improved and gas prices lowered and stabilized. The B and panther bodies became popular once again in the late 80s as the selection of large body on frame V8 was small and the public was tired of all of the small FWD cars that had flooded the market by that time. If Chrysler was able to hang on juet a little longer, i have no doubt that the R body would go on to be successful as the decade rolled on. They sure would have gotten some great fleet sales and i know that they could have had their own slice of GM and Ford's full-size sedan pie. Too bad.

WAIT!! I wikied it so lemme get this straight!! General Motors, from 1985-89, sold a Pontiac Safari wagon AND a GMC Safari minivan??? Other than the Dodge/Plymouth Neon, and yes I know it was the Chrysler Neon in some places beyond America's borders, I've Never heard of the same name being used in different divisions of the same Parent Automaker in the same country. See, This is why I watch you, Mr. GHD, because you Can teach an old dawg new things!!🧐😁

I like how American standards of size are so deviated from the rest of the world we shortened our 70s land yatchs down 2 entire feet and they're still solidly around a foot longer than the long wheelbase versions of flagship full sized luxury sedans from Mercedes Benz, BMW, etc. Like the Lexus LS400, a japanese luxury full size flagship in 1991, considered huge by the Japanese people, was 196.7" long and 71" wide, absolutely dwarfed by these even downsized models lol.

Well done. FYI the 79-81 R-body New Yorkers had a more luxurious optional topline model known as the Fifth Avenue, only available in cream on cream on cream. Not to be confused with the later, shorter, smaller M-bodied RWD Fifth Avenues. For one year only(1982)the M-body carried the NewYorker moniker, between the R-bodies and the FWD K-car NewYorkers. How do I know? Apart from working at a Plymouth stealership then, I have a beautiful red 82 NewYorker, factory Thermoquad 4bbl, factory cat free exhaust (CDN). Rented a K-car NewYorker to take my folks to a wedding in Sudbury back in the 80s. As we were going up and down those incredibly long hills and the K-car was huffing and puffing, I looked over at Dad and said "fastest Evinrude on the lake". We all burst out laughing, being V-8 snobs, not sold on 4s or FWD. You might find those R-bodies may have the largest engines, with their 360s being bigger than the GM corporate 350s and 305 grenade motors. Keep up the good work.
