I was going to Universal Studios Hollywood since the early 80's. I loved all of the mentioned experiences including E.T , & Backdraft. My dad had EXTREME health issues, & Most of Universal Hollywood he could experience. Just like I have fond memories of the Disneyland Peoplemover for the same reason. My biggest memory was seeing KITT from Knight Rider, & sitting in the actual car. I discovered recently that the car I sat in was one of the 5 surviving Cars from the show. That car is featured regularly on the Knight Rider Historians channel, & they also have the Semi Tractor & trailer they are restoring! I miss my dad, & the 80's & 90's..😥 Hello from Phoenix Arizona❕🔥

When I was a kid, there were walking parts to the tour. You went inside the sound stages and would visit the sets of Ironside, Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein, and others. For a while, there was a "screen test" where tour members got to act on camera. For a short time, there was an avalanche section of the ride with rocks that rolled down a hillside, pummeling the tram. Of course, they were made of foam rubber. Sadly, it was raining the day my family went, so they closed that part of the tour. By the time we got back, it was gone. Apparently, it was a pain to reset the rock slide. Also, people kept stealing the "rocks."

I loved the Ice Tunnel, the way it made you feel like you were flipping upsidedown was cool, and after going through it you found yourself Infront of the Battlestar Galactica experience which was pretty cool too, I remember in the mid to late 80's there was a rest stop in the middle of the tour where you could get a snack or drink, let your kids run off some energy after sitting on a tram for awhile, it had this test your strength A-Team van and 2 giant telephones one bigger then the other that were from the movie "The Incredible Shrinking Woman" Starring Lilly Tomlinson, the Original King Kong was cool the new one, not so much, as far as Stage Shows Miami Vice was epic and nothing has be like it since, Conan The Barbarian was also cool, I also like the Star Trek show, before you entered the staff would take volunteers who wanted to participate in the show, it then had those guests playing different parts of the show dressed in authentic costumes, and they would come out onto the stage already in there sets ready to perform, you would then do your seen while a professional film stage camera crew filmed it, after all the scenes were completed, they would talk about the special effects by computers, this part was to allow the staff the time to chop, cut and put together all the scenes then they would have these 3 giant screens drop down and the audience was shown the results, and anyone that was on stage or their family had a chance a buying a vhs copy of the performance for $19.95, Back to the Future: The Ride was awesome and the first new theater added to the Universal park, along with the lower back lot being added to, with the I Love Lucy Experience, Backdraft, the E.T. The Ride, The Sound Stage Experience and the opening of the Studio Backlot Commissary restaurant. The Animal Actors stage and The Wild West Action Spectacular were also really cool, but I've seen almost an exact copy of those at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in Vallejo, CA which at the time was called Six Flags Marine World, I used to live about 10 city blocks from Universal Studios Hollywood was on Lankershim Blvd, which was only about 4 block in the westerly directions, but the street Chauanga Blvd crosses Lankershim and where it does begins the Universal Property which pretty much ends at the US101 Ventura Freeway and Chauanga was 4 blocks to the east of my street I lived in-between two V's first where Lankershim crosses Vineland Blvd and Riverside Dr crosses the center of both of them, then the Chauanga and Lankershim crossing I could walk to Universal in less then a half hour, I was there every time something new opened for years including Earthquake The Experience, the Universal City Walk, the American Tail live stage show, also went to the first couple Halloween Horror Nights they had, I remember when they built the giant set escalators the straddle the hillside, I also went there just after the huge Backlot fire in 90' or 91', apparently the Universal Studios Backlot has an issue with catching fire, from in what I know there had been several before the one when I was a teenager and there have been a few since which one destroyed the King Kong Experience and ruined the whole thing, the replacement sucks, part of the experience was when you came around the corner and saw Kong and then you get stuck on a bridge, with he would pull on and make 2 tram cars slide towards him then back then the tram would pull forward and then when the 2 back cars were on the bridge they tram would stop again saying they were stuck, then the 2 rear tram cars would go through the same as the first 2, so everyone could experience the effect also the studio pumped a smell out of Kongs mouth and the surrounding area to mask the massive smell of carrocen and vehicle exhaust, you would think that they would use Bananas for the smell, but nope they used Cherry cause if how it removes other smells very well

@@ExitThrutheGiftShop yeah, well that's cause my mom worked for Universal from 86' to 90' in the Human Resources dept. and my brother and I would go to here office during the summertime and get passes put on our shirts then we would get to walk-through this turnstile side gate about 100ft past the lower lot main entrance, going from the employee parking lot for Universal HR and studio main offices and Technicolor employees to inside the studios back lot, this was way before they had the amusement parks Lower level area, the only thing that was in that area was a sound stage that had 2 sets of double doors right next to each other, and the tour team cars would pull up a few yards away on the other side of the still used to this day aluminum separating gates and as you got off your team and the guide git you huddled into a group you would see another group waiting there and they would get on your team and leave, your group would then walk into the doors on the right and there would be sets of bleachers, in a quarter of a circle shape, and you would sit down, Infront of you would be a chair with a person who had been picked outside along with several others as volunteers to participate, the chair would be on the floor with the person facing up with a table Infront if them, this was the start of the special effects, folly stage and camera tricks, part of the tour, from there after this part was done a black curtain raised and you went to part two where the would have more people piked in position this was the Back to the Future part they showed how the hover board parts were filmed and even film a quick bit of a clip, then another person plays Marty and does some dramatic acting and two others move a cockpit part of a delorean, then next you went on to see music composed and finally a folly stage where a couple picked persons make noises matching a scene playing, they later shrank this down and had it next door to the Backdraft Experience, but in the 80's that was it for the touring public walking on the back lot, the gate I entered was also on the opposite side of the road from soundstage 28 or the Phantom soundstage, lol I remember how the tram would leave the special effects/folly stage area and then head to the Clocktower/Downtown Hill Valley area, then to King Kong, then to this midpoint rest area for everyone to stretch their legs and kids who were stir crazy could play off some energy(this area is now where the film cars are) then then a new tram would come and you then went to the Flash Flood, then the team just passes the outside of Spartacus Square were the tram will stop so you can look but doesn't drive because the cobble stones are real and really old, then through the parting of the Red Sea, through 6 points Texas, and then into Cape Cod and Jaws, then onto the collapsing bridge, then it was on to a bunch of historic filming locations, 7 wives for 7 gables, the Circle with the Munsters house, Leave it to Beaver house and more, then the Bates motel, the Bates house, then the Avalanche cave and then the end and disembark spot, I also through the early 90's spent many summer days there at Universal because I lived so close and L.A. residents paid 1/3rd the regular price, I remember going everytime they added a new thing, I remember them adding the area where the American Tail show was and next to it was a fenced off spot where you could watch the Circus of the Stars practice, stretching the park towards the parking structure in the hillside road, I remember when there was no City Walk, and now multi teared fountain, just a small on that from what I know is now kinda hidden and it was between two outside of the park bathrooms the fountain had 3 naked boy charubs one pouring water out a vase into another one, with their privates in full view, I was their so often that when the CMA's happened one year I was at the park, they during they day and the day before go all over the park filming country starts performing their smash hit of that year in locations like with KITT, the water tower in the Miami Vice Action Spectacular, Infront of the exploding front falling building in the Wild West Show, or at the Mexican Cantina restaurant(demolished for the Back to the Future: The Ride), and in my case Mel's Diner, I was chilling drinking a Pepsi eating some fry's about to call mom to pick me up when some fancy dressed cowboy and about 10 people came into the area, there was this 57' Bel-Air that had no interior and was were the napkins and straws stand was in, they removed it to reveal a carpeted like stage inside, then they repositioned the car and at the same time a lady and man were going table to table talking to people, then after a few moments would pull out a piece of paper and the people would sign, the the lady came to me, she asked me if id like to be in a music video for the CMA's, I said what's in it for me, this is Hollywood and I'm not a tourist, lol but she says a chance to be on tv around the world, I said ok and here came my paper, it was an NDA and a release of my likeness to allow them to film me, next thing I'm dancing with a girl my age to thus fancy dressed cowboy sing his new hit, the guy was a new rising star his name is Alan Jackson and this was his first hit he was singing, "Don't Rock The Jukebox", I never liked county music until then. Lmmfao I experienced the 92' & 93' Halloween Horror Night which were the first two at the Hollywood park, I remember the BettleJuice Live Extravaganza show, dancing girls every hour at Moulin Rouge, man has everything changed, Water World sucks, the Simpsons is disappointing but The Harry Potter areas are cool.

I haven't been in so long, but I will say my favorites: 1. ET- This ride was such a good dark ride. The indoor temp, the smell, the effects, you really felt like you were in a forest, & it was a nice escape form the heat in the lines. Also, everyone loved how ET said your name! 2. The old school tram tour, with king kong. It's so funny how animatronic popularity is around due to FNAF, and to hear kong was the most complex animatronic is pretty cool to say to my kiddo- I saw that a few times! My least fave-Last time I went, the new kong vs. Dinos was in and it made me nauseous. It is too overwhelming. Screens can help, or disorient. Now everyone talks about sensory overload, back then I didn't know how to define it, but that's definitely what it was. For the longest time it didn't feel like Universal was worth going to. Now with the new additions, it seems like it is. Thank you to those who have and share this old footage! It's so cool to see the vintage stuff. I agree with what someone said, that actors are what make everything awesome, it adds the human element. Also, a big draw to universal is feeling like you see what actual movie sets are like and things they use. If all of the rides are moving towards screens, it loses that Hollywood touch. Even though we know allot of Hollywood is CGI now, people still use sets. Actually Universal, a good idea would be to have set remakes that people can walk through- Friends, Sienfeld, Sex and the city or a New York style set, Game of Thrones, LOTR, FNAF for halloween. A simpsons land would be cool because its so perfect, or even better, BOBS BURGERS. Lastly, a place where people can play with CGI and immerse themselves in a greenscreen space and make their own quick video is a cool idea too. Just some thoughts...

I made my first visit to USH in 2004 and got my first season pass to that park in 2011/2012 (it was part of the Buy-A-Day, Get-A-Year free deal that was going on in December 2011). So I do have fond memories of some of these attractions. I'm glad I got to experience Backdraft, Back To The Future: the Ride, the Collapsing Bridge, and King Kong Encounter when I did. But probably my two most favorite memories were from Terminator 2 3D and The Walking Dead Attraction. The last time I would get to see Terminator 2 3D at USH was on December 16, 2012. My sister and I saw it twice (if my sister had her way, we would have only seen it once that day; but she knew that I liked it, so we saw it twice that day). During one of the performance, my sister and I sat in the second row on the far right and I was pretty excited that I was getting to sit as close as humanly possible to the performers. It was sad day when the show closed for good on December 31, 2012. However, I would get to see the show one last time here in the US back in June 2015 when I visited Universal Studios Florida. As for The Walking Dead Attraction, I had a pretty awesome experience. Since I usually went through this attraction by myself and a bunch of other park guests (my sister was too chicken to go with me), I actually had no one walking in front of me nor behind me during this one time. During this one particular visit, I had walked into one of the rooms where I came face-to-face with one of the Walkers. I started to walk backwards through that room while keeping eye contact with him. After that brief moment of walking backwards, I had turned around only to find that another Walker had appeared right behind me. This interaction that I had with these two Walkers actually made my whole day. To the the two scareactors who did that with me, I would like to say thank you for giving me one of my favorite memories of that attraction. Hopefully you two (and the rest of the employees at USH) can get to go back soon. We miss you ⭐️

For a company event we had that area closed off for just us so we got to go on the rides pretty easily. I however, got stuck on a ride with somebody from HR who was “scared to death of dinosaurs“ which is a bizarre fear to have given that they haven’t existed for 65 million years. When the dinosaur showed up in the ride she started *hitting us* because she was so upset! That was my unique experience with Back to the Future the ride!

Thanks for this. A treat to relive this. I remember being scared shitless as a kid on the king Kong ride. I don't know if I'm remember this correctly but before the King Kong the tram went through a lake area too and would get a wheel stuck on the side and would tip the tram towards the water and a large jaws would jump out at the tram before fixing itself and continuing on to the King Kong area.

This just popped up in my KZbin.. Except for TWD, I got to experience everything else. This was magic you could touch to me. I was so much happier during those days at Universal than I was at Disneyland. I remember before Miami Vice, they had A-Team vehicle stunt show (Disney Hollywood Studios would rip it off years later). Universal is now a sad sorry shell of itself. The magic, outside HHH, is near non-existent now. And I’m pissed they closed TWD before I got to go! I didn’t even know it was closed! I finally got to go to my 1st HHH last year to find it was replaced w/ a Hotel haunt (which was one of the best houses last year at least to me). Anyways thank you ETTGS for giving me back some wonderful childhood memories!

@@ExitThrutheGiftShop I know, right?! From what I remember seeing it, the sound was a bit wonky (had an eerie effect to it the way it was recorded). The idea of replacing live action and animatronics with projections was the dumbest idea ever. Who wants to pay that much to see what amounts to a movie ? I went a few years ago and felt let down by Universal. There’s no movie magic anymore just the feeling they think everyone is stupid. If I wanted to see a computer generated version of “action”, I can see all I can on line and save the hundreds of dollars to wait in lines at their park.

The House of Horrors blew me away! A year round HHN walk thru, but with so much more detail cause it was a permanent installation at the time. It’s what made me want to go to HHN to see if the rest could live upto House of Horrors. Of course Universal got cheap when they decided to do a permanent TWD install. They didn’t want to pay for enough year round actors to do both, so House of Horrors was closed.

I miss Back to the Future. It was an oldie but a goodie. I understand it is outdated though. The attraction that replaced it, the Simpson’s ride, does give a nod to it in the pre-show.
