I'd love to add that Champaign has a railway station that goes from Chicago to New Orleans with a stop in Carbondale and before the Carbondale Planned Parenthood Clinic opened up my plan during and after university was to use the rail system to go to the clinic in Champaign. Relatively near Champaign there are multiple PPIL clinics in Bloomington-Normal, Springfield, Decatur, and Peoria all of which share records with each other and a person can book appointments with any clinic in the IL network.

@@TheGregmangrum No problem! I try to share the info I have to help others and I'm knowledgeable with things near Bloomington and Carbondale since I've lived in both places for 20 years and 5 years respectively.

I'm AMAB and identify as a he/they nonbinary. I'm considering Champaign/Urbana as a possible retirement destination like 30 years from now. The fact that its affordable, has a great transit system, plenty of shopping centers with 3 Culvers and a Costco really appeals to me. I'm originally from the midwest (Omaha, Nebraska) and currently live in San Diego. Having to re-adjust to winter weather might be a pain but it would be nice having to experience a midwestern autumn again.

We love mid-west autumn. Love see the leaves change. Champaign keeps coming up as a great affordable place. Plus being a college town means a great turnover of new folks. We haven’t been but need to go visit

Hey there! Champaign and Urbana are pretty decent areas to live in, if you want something a bit more mild winter wise I'd also look into Carbondale IL as well. It's pretty far south in Illinois but it is a university area and is pretty welcoming of LGBT people. Unfortunately there isn't a Costco in the city and you'd need to go northwest up to St. Louis. Like I said in a different comment there is a rail line directly to Champaign and Chicago in the north and that same line goes south to New Orleans. It's also an incredibly beautiful area.

Hey guys. I’m trans but also a person of color. This made me think you guys might get some great views because lots of POC in the lgbtq community are looking for best places that are affordable for us to live as well and safe. Tbh there are still places in the US that aren’t as friendly to us, and some that are outright not good environments for us to be in :) just a thought, thank you for your list though! I love watching these especially since I’m looking forward to move from Florida :)

Absolutely, we get that. Unfortunately most of the states that are very welcoming to trans POC are states like California & metro areas in NY and they are very expensive. The cities that are affordable and welcoming to POC are often in red states when the laws on the books or being proposed are very transphobic, especially in warmer climates. 😫

We hope to start digging into international later this year. It’s a bit tricky since there are great resources like HRCs MEI in many countries. Plus a bit of a language barrier 🤪
