I would've included that Casey Anthony Miniseries on Peacock. The whole thing is Casey presenting this completely made up narrative about the death of her child that she's had over 14 years to construct. She does everything in her power to push any blame and suspicion off on to other people even if it makes no sense whatsoever. And the worst part is that the whole series takes what she's saying as fact, at no point do they challenge her claims or call her out for the obvious holes in her story. It was an absolutely irresponsible and horrendous thing to do for a team of "documentary" filmmakers.

Ryan Murphy’s Dahmer was of course going to be very controversial considering how it primarily focuses on Dahmer’s victims. I do find it really disturbing how Ryan Murphy didn’t really put that much effort into contacting The friends and relatives of Dahmer’s victims about this show. & especially with how he included scenes in the show that we’re completely inaccurate or exaggerated. Don’t get me wrong it’s a very well done show. I just wish he handled it far better than he did especially with how he made the families of Dahmer’s victims relive that nightmare over again.

WOw 26 seconds released! I am genuinely upset that Peters got a golden globe for Dhamer. All the fake serial killers he's played he wins for one of the horrific real people of America. True Crime and re enactments run a very fine line of exploration and straight up disrespect. I feel family should always be involved or at least informed. We love re traumatizing real people for our entertainment.

Edit: I meant true crime can be a fine line of exploiting peoples tragedies and/or being straight disrespectful to thier memory and families. Nor have I heard of families being compensated for these "hit" series, when the worst times of their lives become trends and memes. I can only imagine the heartache that comes with that. I wish we practiced empathy more than capitalism.

I agree. I've watched and read true crime for decades. I always do it with respect and interest in the victim. Who were they? How is it these things are happening right under our noses? Why did this happen to them? In this rise of the true crime trend, some consumers and suppliers approach it with excitement, giddiness, and humor. That's embarrassing and disrespectful. Some, not all, shows on channels such as ID are a good example. (I'm not talking about dark or gallows humor. There's a place for that. It's a normal human survival tool and coping mechanism for the horrors of the world and of life. As you said, there are fine lines.)

Dustin Black, writer of "Under the Banner of Heaven," not only disrespected Brenda and her daughter Erica, he also betrayed their family. Years ago he spent time with Brenda's sister and parents. He assured them she would be portrayed accurately. Instead, it seems Brenda's truth was sacrificed and she was used in order for Black to seek revenge and perhaps heal some of his own trauma regarding the LDS church. Brenda's sister Sharon says that Brenda's personality, and the motives for her murder, are quite different than what's portrayed. According to Sharon, Brenda was independent, feisty, and had a healthy relationship with her church. She and the prosecutors say the motives for the murders were revenge and jealousy, not religion. She says that who her sister was got swept away because Black had an anti-church bias and agenda in the making of the series. Black used the story of a female murder victim to claim that he's a great supporter and defender of women, especially those victimized by religion. Yet HE made her into that, for his personal reasons. That was not part of Brenda's story. The truth is it was Brenda, not Black, who showed true support and defense for a woman. She was murdered partly because she was a supportive friend to the ex-wife of the man who murdered her. That is her real story. (Jon Krakauer, the author of the book that the series is based on, is also partially to blame for the false portrayals. However, Black took it steps further.) Disclaimer: I'm sure there are other sides to the story I'm not aware of. My opinion is based on the information I have so far, from two news articles and an interview with Brenda's sister.

I thought the watcher was a crap representation but people boycotting the show for them not saying who it was is just stupid. THE ACTUAL WATCHER WAS NEVER CAUGHT!!! Which means any allegations against somebody could be considered slander and that's admissible in court. Monster was also awful. How nobody is suing this production is beyond me. But the mom refusing to believe Dahmer and her son dated when multiple people who were friends with both men say otherwise. You don't always know who your kid is dating, and she definitely had a problem with admitting her son was gay.

Was the best episode of Dahmer, but definitely a questionable artistic direction. Though I disagree with saying it romanticized Dahmer, in the end it showed he was ultimately nothing more than a monster. Killers can have normal moments too, doesn't outshine their evil.
