Halloween Ends and Jurassic World Dominion had the same exact problem. The last movie in a big trilogy being marketed to us as the big battle to the problem of the franchise, but ending up focusing on a second issue that nobody asked for. Then solving what should've been the plot of the movie in the last couple minutes of the movie.

Star Wars Sequel Trilogy. Then, Jurassic World trilogy. And now, David Green's Halloween Trilogy. It's every *Requels a.k.a Legacy-quels* main problems nowadays. Starting with a great jumpstart (as a tribute to the original) from the 1st movie, mixedbag at 2nd (trying to be something 'different' + for "subverting expectations" 🙄), ... until the trainwreck in 3rd a.k.a. final chapter of trilogy after promised the buildup towards the final showdown.

Now, i am very worried about Ghostbusters: Afterlife and Scream (2022) about their respective sequels. The first movies, respectively, were good with every fanservice and nostalgia. But.. Will their sequels be better than the 1st? Or would suffer the similar fate as the aforementioned films' trilogies?

Halloween Ends was the most disappointing. I'm not even a Halloween fan, hell I'm one of the people who actually like Halloween Kills despite its weaknesses but the more I thought about Halloween Ends, the less I like about it. I don't understand the build-up for a character no one cares about only to ditch the arc in the final act of the film. It didn't even feel like a Halloween film and there is no point to watch this film from start to finish ever again.

The movie is much better in re-watch in my opinion. Re-watching kills and ends has made the themes much clearer to me. This trilogy wasn't necessarily about the person michael myers, but it was about the idea of michael myers
@tmaynard317 Жыл бұрын
@@bowlensage2038 no thats absolutely wrong. Its bs to say the movie wasnt about michael myers when 2018 was about re introducing him and laurie.. Kills was about michael reigning terror on the town... Ends was suppose to be the big bad final showdown we all been waiting for but instead we got a young adult who gets beat up by teenagers and whoops michaels a** and a niece that doesnt know whether she wants to avenge her parents death n kill michael or start sh*t with her grandmother and accuse her of everything thats happened.. The whole trilogy is based around laurie and Michael. Thats why ends is so bad bc they sold us bs..
@bowlensage2038 Жыл бұрын
@tmaynard317 ok, let me explain it then. 2018 was about Michael's evil haunting lauri, kills was about michaels evil haunting the town, and ends was about michaels evil spreading (which his evil spreads throughout kills aswell). Im not trying to break everything down but in kills, officer Hawkins kills his partner, the mob kills the patient. Hell, even Loomis tries to kill Michael. All of that is a part of michaels evil spreading. And please explain to me how the whole trilogy is about michael and Laurie? Laurie was barely in kills
@tmaynard317 Жыл бұрын
@@bowlensage2038 i just said how the trilogy is about michael and laurie. Reread the first thing i said. First movies about re introducing eachother. Seconds about michael reigning terror. Third was suppose to be about the final showdown. The trilogy is literally sold off how it picks up so many years later and reintroduces Michael and laurie. Every movie in this trilogy was sold as a Michael and laurie film. Dont say different cus its a lie.

@tmaynard317 yes the marketing was misleading for ends im not arguing that it wasn't. But you just said kills was about michael reigning terror. Kills was NOT about Laurie. What's so hard to understand about that?

'I think' the biggest problem with this wokeness or whatever we call it is we are starting to look for it where it is nonexistent. Undercutting a lot of great work. My other issue is we can't properly critique anything anymore without being called names. Orn "anti woke" ie racist bigot etc Personally... I have come to find if something is marketed with diversity and inclusion and not story. I'm going to avoid it. I don't care who you are or what you look like or Identify as if you give me a good story and I will praise you. Woman King is a great example of how to kill your own good project I really enjoyed that movie , it wasn't the greatest but it wasn't terrible. Jeepers Creepers is a fascinating character and the new film should’ve been a prequel focusing on him. Maybe an origin story set in the Wild West? Sheriff of a small town is set to execute a ruthless gang of train robbers or some shit but he gives them a shot at freedom when townsfolk go missing and rumors spread of a monster in the woods. The sheriff hires them to hunt it down.

I swear, I must be the only one who remembers Halloween 4. Ends makes sense to me if u factor that in. Also in original Halloween it shows a segment that makes ends high quality viewing. Now before I get into what I mean realize two things, 1 is there will be spoilers if no one has seen 4 or ends, and the second is I believe I may have understood what they were trying to do. It is my opinion. The reason I think ends works well is because I viewed it as a entity movie. Myers was the current vessel of the evil. It started when he killed his sister. Then the evil tried to jump to Jaime in part 4. The reason I bring those up is because in ends, it seems like Myers is breaking down and the evil needs a new vessel. It tried to get into new bodies but it couldn’t finish the jump because of the need for someone to be truely bad and not care. The first one which was the kid, it turned out he had remorse and did care so couldn’t convert and use him. Then it tried to get into Laurie but she was pure hearted. She wasn’t evil and has proven she cares about her loved ones. As a result it only had myers and when he got into the wood chipper at the end. Supposedly that stops myers but the evil still exists and possibly can find a new person later on. So the saga between Laurie and Myers does end, but Halloween can still go on. The question is does the studio move on without Myers or do they reboot the series again.

Halloween Ends - I enjoyed the first half and the second half in a bubble but it felt like two unrelated films mashed together. Too much introduction of character in a finale. 5. Bros - As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, was super stoked for a gay rom com but unfortunately it was very forgettable and the star’s Twitter tirades after the release were super annoying. 4. Texas Chainsaw Massacre - My favorite horror franchise because of the original. I don’t know why i still get my hopes up at this point when they announce a new movie in the franchise. 3. Scream - Completely forgettable chapter in this franchise. 2. Men - Based on the trailers and first three quarters of this movie, this was one of my most anticipated movies of the year and loved the film up until the final act. Completely lost me with the final 20-30 minutes. 1. Pearl - After X came out and blew me away, i had sky high expectations for Pearl. Maybe because i had a different expectation going on (not expecting a character study) i felt so disappointed, i feel like this will probably change on future rewatches.

Im not interested in Studio 666, but I think it's like a throwback/homage to stuff they used to do in the 70s, like Kiss meets the phantom of the opera, and stuff like that, not to be taken very serious and for die hard fans to enjoy it for what it was.

Good list. Most disappointing movies- Halloween Ends , Nope, The Batman, and Uncharted

I didn't dislike Hocus Pocus 2 - tho maybe it's cuz I thought it was dumb enough to circle back to charming. But since you mentioned Disney+, I was left cold by Disenchanted. That movie reminded me of Bill & Ted 3 or Superman Returns - a sequel that's in development hell for years, micromanaged to death, they settled on a script not cuz they like it but because it ticked off as few people as possible Come to think of it, that's probably how HP 2 was made.

Dominion was so shockingly bad to me. Like I want to like parts of it but I cant. I don’t think I can name a single thing in it I like. I hate how the characters do nothing, how it just recreated what the last 5 movies have done, and how they kept introducing new dinosaurs for one scene and then never did anything with it again. I don’t need to see 40 new dinosaurs for the sake of seeing 40 new dinosaurs.

I would like to hear more of your thoughts on Nope, especially about the logic and rules you thought were broken. It seems like maybe you didn't fully get it, considering you're calling the entity a "ship" when it very clearly was not.

I think Us is the only peel movie worth watching. Get Out, was aight, but barely a horror movie, with no replay ability And the Alien in Nope makes it impossible to take serious… fabulous cinematography tho.

Personally, I disagree about Love and Thunder, I personally love that movie and have rewatched it a bunch of times. I understand why people think it is disappointing, and I agree that the movie had missed potential to be even better, but the movie is just fun for me. For me, my most disappointing movie of the year is The Gray Man. The movie had the potential to be fantastic with all of the talent, but just ended up being forgettable and generic. It’s pretty good for a one time watch, but I just forgot about it. Uncharted was also disappointing because I disliked the movie and was expecting to like it.

Love and Thunder was trash period. I'm a woman and I'm just sick and tired of movies and TV constantly demonizing men and making them parody. If content gets preachy I just turn it off at this point. There's a line between entertaining and too much of it. And don't get me started on the damn goats 😩

My problem with Jurassic World: Dominion was the marketing. When they announced they were having the cast from Jurassic Park back reprising their roles, the handling of it was ridiculous. It went from Dominion going to be a big finale to the World trilogy and the most ambitious one in the series. Suddenly it is now the finale to the Jurassic Park saga that was started with the original film and was "always planned". This is the finale to Jurassic World and Jurassic Park and we are in for one great ending to this series. Like, even though Jurassic World and Fallen Kingdom barely connected to the previous films and this return of old favorites is coming completely out of nowhere. It really feels like they had such little confidence in the story of Jurassic World that they decided to bring back the old cast and call it a sequel to Jurassic Park so they can make a buck off of nostalgia and fan service. I like nostalgia and fan service, but only when it is used to benefit the story, not to replace it due to lack of faith or ideas.

Couldn't agree more on Halloween Ends. I enjoyed it I really did, but just not as a send off for the trilogy. I appreciate directors taking leaps and they certainly did, but I wish they would have done it after Michael and Laurie had their final bout.

their final bout should have been halloween 2018. this was Corey's time to shine

@@y3ee3e i would agree with that as i said i really did enjoy the movie, but they sold this whole trilogy on laurie and michael so i just wish thats what it was.

Finally got back to this video. Great list with pretty much spot on reasonings. With Rob though when are we all going to come to terms that he has talent. But it'll never get a chance to shine because simply put he's a hack. He's a hack wrapped up in ego sealed with poser. Munsters is the prime example. Someone who loves the material that much wouldn't actively set out to ruin it.
