One Pokemon buff that I was expecting to see in this video is Poison Heal Gliscor. While it was already a solid Pokemon in Gen 4, it would have not survived power creep all these generations later if not for that ability.
@LoDart210
@LoDart210 5 күн бұрын
itemless and moveless chip heal and status immunity is incredibly powerful on such a good defensive mon. Gliscor definitely can survive without it if it has roost and another good ability, as natdex almost any ability has shown, but man toxic heal really vaults it to the stuff of legends. There should never be a gen where gliscor gets powercrept.

Ever since Gen 3, Pelipper has been my favorite Pokemon. I took it with me to the Elite 4 as an HM slave at a point in my life where I was too young to recognize how I beat Pokemon Gold, and after losing all my Pokemon to Steven but Pelipper, the little pelican that could dodged a Meteor Mash and Hydro Pumped Metagross down. Ever since, I have loved Pelipper dearly, even as I grew older and realized that it wasn't considered a good Pokemon. When Pelipper got Drizzle, I instantly knew the game had changed. I'd used Pelipper in every game it was in following Sapphire, even knowing how not good it was, but having Drizzle meant that my constant companion had hit the big time. I could not be happier for it. This is for you, Pelipper. Know you beat the odds and became a star.

Scizor getting Technician Bullet Punch and U-Turn in gen IV was a buff that literally redefined it as a Pokemon. It went from a mediocre mon that occasionally saw play on dedicated Baton Pass teams in Gens II and III to the vicious bulky physical attacker it is known as today. Other notable buffs would be Gen IV Mence getting physical Outrage and Draco Metor and getting itself banned, Gen III TTar getting Sand Stream (and then getting even better in Gen IV with it buffing its SpDef), Gen V Gliscor getting Poison Heal, or the myriad of buffs Azumarill and Weavile got over the years. Maybe Gyara getting DD in Gen III and physical Water STAB in Gen IV?

Honestly the eviolite doesn't help Bisharp. Kingambit is bulkier even after eviolite boost, and Bisharp needs life orb more for its damage, as it's not that bulky in the first place and is better off boosting what it is good at.

Here’s some more of theseI can think of off the top of my head: -Electric-Types arguably benefitting more than any other type from the addition of Hidden Power in Gen 2, to the point of a historic complex ban that doesn’t exist anymore -Several Dragon-Types benefitting from a significantly buffed Outrage in Gen 4 (DPP Garchomp and DPP Salamence especially) -Magic Guard being expanded to other Psychic-Type Pokémon in Gen 5, lowkey giving me Gen 1 vibes in the process -Alolan Ninetales’s rise to stardom in Gen 9 thanks to the changes to what is now Snowy weather

Another game changing buff is Tyranitar getting Sand Stream in Gen 3. Went from simply being a great Pokemon in Gen 2 OU to one of the absolute faces of Gen 3-5 OU. I highly doubt the mon would have anywhere near the competitive longevity it has if it weren't for getting Sand Stream.
@riccardocasu5576
@riccardocasu5576 6 күн бұрын
Especially in Gen 3 OU, where Tyranitar was THE face of meta. Outside the great variance of sets (Dragon Dance, physical, special and mixed with all the possible coverage) Sand Stream itself was a game changer: the fact that you can negate Leftovers recovery and place constant chip damage (putting certain sets on a timer) is immense. It says something that Swampert and Claydol manage to find genuine OU usage despite the competition (Suicune / Milotic for former and Starmie for latter) just for the boon of not having to deal with the damage from sand.

idk why ppl never thought of using empoleon as a cloyster check in bw ou, with investment, a phys def empoleon, in theory, seems like a pretty solid check to it, & with moves like roar, stealth rocks, knock off, & grass knot, it could actually do things in front of it, whenever i have a defensive empoleon on my team & there’s a cloyster on the other team, cloyster never seems to get anything done

Empoleon is worse than ferro and heatran in termf of defense Ferro does everything better than empoleon besides checking cloyster.

But then you have a defensive Empoleon on your team, that's the issue. Pokemon have to be viable outside of just being used to check something that may or not appear on the enemy team.

I think Technician should've been on here. It made Scizor a menace in Gen 4 OU. Also, Breloom was really good in Gen 5 considering it could use priority Mach Punch and Bullet Seed.

For Pokemon not mentioned in the video that got a massive buff: - Dragonite getting Multiscale basically turned it from "Salamence at home" to a modern competitive monster - Serperior getting Contrary is a bit of a weird case since it technically had it from the start, but it was locked away and GameFreak didn't give it the key until Gen 6 - Dugtrio got mentioned a lot here but really, it getting Arena Trap in Gen 3 is in and of itself a good example of a meta-defining buff

All this talk about teleport and future sight got me thinking about a hypothetical “future oracle” move that would act like future sight, except protecting the ally Pokémon sent out when it hits, instead of damaging the opponent. Also had me thinking about portals and what typing portal-based moves would have :P

I kinda hate that they made Teleport negative priority, though! Making it useless for Alakazam. The line that is literally known for the move. Clefable and most bulky teleporters are already slow to begin with ffs!

it's amazing how much chilly reception outclasses teleport, even without negative priority. slowking simply doesn't use teleport anymore because chilly reception exists. and slowking is slow enough that chilly reception might as well have negative priority in almost every circumstance.

The main issue here is that Teleport got cut from Slowking's movepool (and its Bro counterparts) in Gen9, so Slowking literally can't run Teleport even if it wants to. Because the important thing about Teleport that distinguishes it from Chilly Reception is that Teleport has Trick Room synergy, whereas Chilly Reception as a pivot move with no priority alterations can't do safe slow pivots in Trick Room. I'd say that both moves are comparable with different team synergies (Chilly Reception into Slush Rush mons go brrrrr, vs Trick Room'd Teleport into slow attackers go brrrrr), but one does not outclass the other as both tend to require very restrictive team compositions to make the best use of their full effects. Personally i really wish it was still available to them in Gen9 just to combat the obnoxious speed creep as a huge middle finger to that, and because anything that kicks down flutter mane is funny asf. Really miss the times of Trick Room'd Teleporting into Alolan Marowak. My favorite middle finger tactic to zacian's existence.
