itemless and moveless chip heal and status immunity is incredibly powerful on such a good defensive mon. Ever since Gen 3, Pelipper has been my favorite Pokemon. I took it with me to the Elite 4 as an HM slave at a point in my life where I was too young to recognize how I beat Pokemon Gold, and after losing all my Pokemon to Steven but Pelipper, the little pelican that could dodged a Meteor Mash and Hydro Pumped Metagross down. Ever since, I have loved Pelipper dearly, even as I grew older and realized that it wasn't considered a good Pokemon. When Pelipper got Drizzle, I instantly knew the game had changed. I'd used Pelipper in every game it was in following Sapphire, even knowing how not good it was, but having Drizzle meant that my constant companion had hit the big time. I could not be happier for it. This is for you, Pelipper. Know you beat the odds and became a star.

Scizor getting Technician Bullet Punch and U-Turn in gen IV was a buff that literally redefined it as a Pokemon. It went from a mediocre mon that occasionally saw play on dedicated Baton Pass teams in Gens II and III to the vicious bulky physical attacker it is known as today. Other notable buffs would be Gen IV Mence getting physical Outrage and Draco Metor and getting itself banned, Gen III TTar getting Sand Stream (and then getting even better in Gen IV with it buffing its SpDef), Gen V Gliscor getting Poison Heal, or the myriad of buffs Azumarill and Weavile got over the years. Maybe Gyara getting DD in Gen III and physical Water STAB in Gen IV?

Another game changing buff is Tyranitar getting Sand Stream in Gen 3. Went from simply being a great Pokemon in Gen 2 OU to one of the absolute faces of Gen 3-5 OU. I highly doubt the mon would have anywhere near the competitive longevity it has if it weren't for getting Sand Stream.
@riccardocasu55766 күн бұрын
Especially in Gen 3 OU, where Tyranitar was THE face of meta. Outside the great variance of sets (Dragon Dance, physical, special and mixed with all the possible coverage) Sand Stream itself was a game changer: the fact that you can negate Leftovers recovery and place constant chip damage (putting certain sets on a timer) is immense. It says something that Swampert and Claydol manage to find genuine OU usage despite the competition (Suicune / Milotic for former and Starmie for latter) just for the boon of not having to deal with the damage from sand.

The main issue here is that Teleport got cut from Slowking's movepool (and its Bro counterparts) in Gen9, so Slowking literally can't run Teleport even if it wants to. Because the important thing about Teleport that distinguishes it from Chilly Reception is that Teleport has Trick Room synergy, whereas Chilly Reception as a pivot move with no priority alterations can't do safe slow pivots in Trick Room. I'd say that both moves are comparable with different team synergies (Chilly Reception into Slush Rush mons go brrrrr, vs Trick Room'd Teleport into slow attackers go brrrrr), but one does not outclass the other as both tend to require very restrictive team compositions to make the best use of their full effects. Personally i really wish it was still available to them in Gen9 just to combat the obnoxious speed creep as a huge middle finger to that, and because anything that kicks down flutter mane is funny asf. Really miss the times of Trick Room'd Teleporting into Alolan Marowak. My favorite middle finger tactic to zacian's existence.
