And the winner here, I would say, is the Shawarma! We used to have it when we were out and about, working or travelling. The lamb, chicken or falafel Shawarma with vege pickles, grilled is so delicious. The perfect 'food on the go'. The 'Murtabak' is the Turkish Gozleme, most probably a remnant of the Ottoman times.🐞

Please keep in mind that Saudi Arabia is diverse and there are many tribes. Many do not know this. Depending on the region, the cuisine is 'influenced' by immigrants who brought them. Then, they were adopted. Example: Hijaz and Najd cuisine are different regions, and the tribes are different. It is easy to be critical without being discerning. I am not an expert yet I lived and worked in KSA. I can appreciate this video for someone making an effort.

I appreciate this wonderful video. Thank you. However, quite a pity, almost all of the pronunciations here are incorrect. Like "Harees" must be pronounced HAA (like in Ahh) REES. "Ruus" "(rice, in English) must be pronounced ROOS (like in Rooster) not Rose! Et cetera ... I am an Indonesian, not a Saudian, but even I tried to find out how to pronounce it correctly. It is a decent part of how I respect one's culture heritage.

Kunafah is Palestinian; Mandi and Muttabaq are Yemeni; Shawarma and Sambusak are Lebanese - Syrian; Jordanians claim Kabsa too.. Every Arab country has its version of Falafel.. So most of these dishes are not strictly speaking Saudi, but rather pan-Arab.

No Kunafah is not Palestinian it is Turkish and learnt from Turks during the Ottoman Empire. Don't be fooled by its Arabic word, thing pastry strands is something Turks have made for at least 1000 years. Shawarma is Turkish too. Shawarma is the mispronunciation of the Turkish word çevirme, sambusak is not Lebanese or Syrian it is Asian.

I agree with you. Like us in Morocco, they always attribute Moroccan food to North Africa, and I tell them, “No, Moroccan tagine is not Algerian or Tunisian. We have become poisoned by foreigners.” They attribute the food to another country, with whom we have no relation, since we are from North Africa.

They all come from the Turks and spread to every single Arab country in Ottoman times, even Kabsa has roots to Central Asia and specifically what's known today as Toshkent طشقند in Arabic, and that's why it's called Buckhari Rice الرز البخاري in the Western Province of Saudi Arabia, arrived as a dish with pilgrims coming to Makkah from that region, and referring to that part of Central Asia: بخارى in Arabic
