Currently the Admiral Kuznetsov is on life support, with the plug soon to be pulled. This floating disaster, and navigation hazard was the fear of many countries around the world. They feared the Admiral Kuznetsov would enter their waters, break down, pollute, and kill their fisheries, create a navigation hazard which the unlucky country would have to spend huge sums of money to have this eye sore towed out of their waters. The Kuznetsov did not project military might but projected a floating ecological disaster looking for a place to happen. Now that is real fear.

To say that the Admiral Kuznetsov is superior to the UK's Queen Elizabeth class carriers is ridiculous. The Kuznetsov was built in the 1980's when the Soviet Union was in the process of collapsing. The ship itself is a poor design that has rarely left port without an ocean going tug tagging along and it's planes can't take off with a full weapons loadout. It's record of engine and systems failures should have led to it's scrapping years ago. In 2018 while in a floating drydock for an overhaul the drydock sank and dropped a 70 ton crane onto the carrier's deck. In 2019 a fire onboard caused extensive damage putting it our of action until 2022 at the earliest. The Russian navy can build capable ships, but the Kuznetsov isn't one of them. The QE class carriers on the other hand have been designed and tested by the UK which pioneered aircraft carriers and developed almost all of the advances now common on US supercarriers such as the angled flight deck, and steam catapult launching systems.

@@tamer1773, "Nikolai Chiker" is an ocean-range ship with a displacement of more than 5,000 tons. This is not just a tugboat, but also a fire ship, a floating hospital, and a diving ship. In a long sea voyage, it is very useful to have such ships. Do you carry a spare tire, a fire extinguisher and a first aid kit in your car? If you carry, can it speak bad of you? No, rather the opposite. Before speaking ill of the "Admiral Kuznetsov", it is worth looking at other similar ships. For example, "Charles de Gaulle". "Charles de Gaulle" then lost the propellers, then there was an accident with radiation. After entering service in 2001, by 2006 it was in need of major repairs. After repairs, in 2010, he returned from a sea trip the next day due to a failure of the power supply systems. "Admiral Kuznetsov" has already received a new power plant. New steam boilers were installed on the ship. The aircraft carriers Liaoning, Shandong and Vikramaditya have similar boilers. They are built on the basis of Russian technologies. The reasons for Admiral Kuznetsov's poor condition were not that this ship was initially supposedly bad. They were that in the 90s, the ship did not receive funding, did not undergo scheduled repairs and maintenance. As a result, by 2001, it was already in poor condition. But it was impossible to put it on major repairs, since pilots need to be able to take off from the deck. The simulator complex in Crimea, simulating pitching on the deck of an aircraft carrier, turned out to be on the territory of Ukraine. As a result, it was constantly repaired between combat campaigns. As a result, by 2016, the ship was in much better condition than in 2001. This was clearly confirmed by the combat campaign to the shores of Syria, when the ship passed from the Arctic to the Mediterranean, without a single major accident, moving at the speed of a squadron. Having completed the combat mission, and successfully returned back to the Arctic Ocean. After that, he embarked on the long-awaited modernization. NOW it is possible to put it on modernization, since the complex in the Crimea is back in Russia. And on the other side of the Black Sea

In defense of the video, it was a list of the top ten TYPES of aircraft carriers. If it was simply top 10 most powerful then yes, the US probably owns that list. And I'd wager the power projection gap is even more extreme than it may appear. Fighters operating off US carriers can take off at maximum fuel/weapons payload, while those operating from the ski-jump style carriers cannot. So while those types of carriers operate at a total aircraft deficit, the aircraft they do contain also tend to operate at about 1/2 payload.

The QE empty is 65,000 tons, full load is at least 10,000 tons more so over 75,000 tons not 72,000 like you said. Also it can carry up to 58 F35B fighters in it's hangar and up to 72 planes and choppers total. They always say it can carry up to 40 aircraft but it's actual most efficient load for the design where you get full use of the size of the ship but with full operating efficiency at the same time, no overcrowding affecting operations, is 48 fighters and 12 helicopters. 60 aircraft. The Kuznetsov at 3 is a joke. It has less space for aircraft than shandong.

@@robg5710 Well, mostly because there are not enough planes to carry. The MoD only purchased 48 F35Bs 7 years ago and although they talk about buying more, no more have been ordered and there is no real budget proposal to do so. Of those 48, 24 are permanently land based and will NEVER go to sea unless there is a Falkland style war again. The other 24 have 2 or 3 trainers and 2 or 3 always out of service for various maintenance issues. That leaves 18 to 20 F35Bs between TWO carriers or 9 or 10 each. Sad, just sad.

@@danielmonk7451 If she carries 36 F35B fighters, 10 Merlins and 4 Wildcats, 50 aircraft, then her aircraft weight is 647 tons. Her ship's fuel is 3125 tons and her aviation fuel is 2276 tons. That's just over 5000 tons of load. With 1600 crew, their possessions, frozen food stores and drinking and washing water it's going to be more. Her ammunition load plus general equipment through the ship quite a bit more. But I'd put 10,000 tons of stores total actually as an absolute maximum not an at least figure like I did before. So I don't know where you got 20,000 tons from. She's 65,000 standard and up to 75,000 maximum at full load. She has the same kind of bulk as US supercarriers. If you look at her and the Nimitz carrier George H W Bush side by side with a front view in Operation Saxon Warrior you can see the similar height and width and just the very similar bulk overall. The difference is the length, 1092 feet to 932 ft. That 160 feet difference is the 16,000 ton difference between 65,000 ton QE and 81,000 to Nimitz class. That's their standard weights. Full load Nimitz goes to about 102,000 and QE to about 75,000.

Speed is an important asset : maybe, but what is REALLY important is strategic mobility. When targeted by an anti-ship missile, two or three knots doesn't make any difference. Only nuclear-powered carriers should be taken into account, because they don't have to rely on slower fleet replenishment ships : means that US carrier and french CdG should be first. An aircraft carrier must be able to efficiently operate air combat groups : only CATOBAR carriers (catapult assisted take-off but arrested recovery) can operate both combat aircraft with full weapon and fuel load and AEW aircraft (Hawkeye). Once again, only french and US carriers can do that. So ranking the CdG in sixth, behind UK or russian carriers (!) is quite a mistake. You'd better ask to US navy, which carriers and aviators use to operate daily alongside the CdG.

The nazis only controlled europe that are connected by land and the british empire’s production of military vehicles eg. Planes, ships and tanks were outproducing the nazis and some were in Canada and other colonies but they have first to fight the royal navy in the Atlantic in order to get to them which they know they cant. Also, the british empire outproduces the nazis in tanks and warplanes and the nazis do not control territories that have the much needed oil since the oil is controlled by either the russians or the british. @@atomatlas5595 1st Chinese carrier is Liaoning and it is an upgraded version of Kuznetsov-class carriers. Shandong (on the list) is a further upgraded version of Liaoning, it is a good carrier albeit with a more simple STOBAR catapult (compared to CATOBAR ones in Charles de Gaulle, Nimitz, and Gerald R. Ford class carriers) and no IEP (HMS Queen Elizabeth) but it is a very capable carrier. There is also Type 003 carrier that is going to be finished this or next year, it is expected to have both the CATOBAR EMALS catapults (which are better than steam-driven Nimitz & de Gaulle and equal to Gerald R. Ford) and IEP system, which would make it the most sophisticated aircraft carrier built outside the US according to US defense experts. If you want to remove Shandong from the list, then you should also remove all the other preceding ships except for Charles de Gaule because they are worse. E.g. Indian Vikramaditya is a modified Kiev-class carrier and Kiev-class design is an inferior & older version of the Kuznetsov-class design.

China can barely launch combat ready fighters off its deck. Not a very good list other than the US carrier in the 1 and 2 spot

How does the Kuznetsov rank higher than the QE and CDG? It is a floating hulk of scrap that barely moves under its own power and only flies 18 museum piece old migs, as opposed to the QE which carries 24 modern stealth fighters and can go up to 36 modern stealth fighters, and the CDG which flies 24 fairly modern fighters, and the Nimitz/Ford which carry 48 modern fighters and are upgrading to stealth fighters. And please dont say Granit, if you sail your carrier close enough to use anti-ship missiles, your carrier is already lost. All other navies removed offensive weapons from carriers with good reason.

@@spitfire8790 There is only one nuclear aircraft carrier user in Europe, that is France. In addition, it is equipped with CATOBAR, which places it at the same level as American aircraft carriers. The other aircraft carriers are far below technologically. Apart from the American aircraft carriers, you will not find aircraft carriers more powerful than the Charles de Gaulle. The Charles de Gaulle is a CATOBAR (Catapult Assisted Take Off But Arrested Recovery) which has catapults and can operate heavily equipped aircraft with a large range. HMS Queen Elizabeth can only field VSTOL (Vertical or Short Take Off and Landing) aircraft that take off vertically or only need a short runway to take off (hence the springboard at the front of the ship ). As a bonus, it has no stopping strand and must therefore have planes capable of landing vertically. This greatly limits the possibilities. Due to its ability to project its air group further and with more payload, a CATOBAR is currently clearly superior to other types of aircraft carriers. Only two countries use CATOBARs: France and the USA. 🙂

@@Justineexy yes it does matter because in a war time situation or if Millitary spending is increased which it is being as soon as they can get access to that many aircraft which they will eventually it gives the carrier the capability to take on much more air power. It could even be used by allies in a war time situation alongside the British aircraft so yes it does matter

Just a point, with the Admiral Flota Sovetskogo Soyuza Kuznetsov/ Admiral Kuznetsov being little more than floating scrap, might want to rank it a bit lower. Would agree with it's general placement on this list if it was fully operational.

It's not really an Aircraft carrier but more of a Battleship, what air craft carrier you know that has 8x 30mm CIWS AK630 Gatling cannons, 8x CIWS Kashtan for another 16x 30mm Gatling cannons with 32x SAM's another 24 cell SAM's, 1x Anti Sub rocket launcher, and 12x Anti Ship missiles that can use tactical nukes! Then there is another 40 aircraft on top it's no wonder it has issues. Being an electrician on that ship will be nightmare, rather play russian roulette with all barrels loaded.

The Thailand carrier is a full operational warship. Is spanish desing based on "Principe de Asturias" carrier. You can see this one on the minute 2,01 of this video, whit her younger but bigger brother "Juan Carlos I" and 3 frigates. Can be compared with brithis "invincible" class (three ships; one fought on Fackland War) or USA Amphibe asault ships class "Tarawa", with harriers too.

The U.S. Navy currently has TWENTY (20) Operational Aircraft Carriers that can launch and land Fighter Jets that belong on this list..The U.S. Navy can launch over twice as many Jet Fighters at one time than the rest of the World's Navies combined. The U.S. Navy also has 14 Nuclear Powered Submarines carrying enough Nuclear Missiles onboard to lay waste to the Entire Planet Earth in 60 minutes. So all this BS about the size of your navy is pointless.
