yeah, joey's deck was basically 90% luck based by the end of yugioh. he wasn't really a "great" duelist but got lucky with his rolls. He was still regarded by pegasus though as the #3 duelist in the world when GX rolled around, only behind kaiba and yugi. I would put zane above joey, altough i would still like to see joey at the #10 spot, and zane around jack's level.

Jaden should be first he never used any of those tricks and managed to come up with strategies to nearly almost always win. Plus one of his rivals (Sirus brother) was a prodigy in yugioh and he managed to beat him at the end. While Yugi had trouble beating kaiba, who just focused on brute strength.

Mostly because his win ratio is really low... He wins against Ghost Girl, Go, Windy and Blood Sheppard. And that's it. Meanwhile he draws against Yusaku twice, Lightning (though it was stolen from him, and yes, I'm still pissed about that), and loses against Soulburner and Yusaku twice. His win ratio isn't even 50% :/ And I'll agree he is the best character in VRAINS due to his backstory, as well as the best rival since Kaiba, but this fact still holds.

I love how they mention Yugi’s deck was “well balanced” and “adaptable” when it kinda wasn’t. Especially during Battle City and later on, they leaned into playing cards that would have caused trouble for anyone who’s luck wasn’t enhanced thanks to the Millennium Puzzle. (For proof, go and build Yugi’s anime deck and see how many hands you draw that you can’t do much with compared to Kaiba, or even later duelist decks like Yusei, Jaden, Zane or Kite.)

I know it's late but personally by saying "adaptable" he basically uses all the cards there is. Like his Deck consists of too many archetypes but too few cards from them. At least Kaiba's is more focused on summoning high-leveled monster, notably Blue-Eyes, and protecting them. You cannot just support Dark Magician and also try to gather enough Tributes for the Gods and also Ritual Black Luster Solider in a 40-to-60-card Deck.

While Yugi is the OG character and I have respect for that, Yusei is honestly the best main character. I have seen all the series, and some how survived the horribly annoying Yuma from zexal XD. Also Reiji should have been much higher on the list cause he is honestly the most smartest, when it comes to actual skill and not plot or main character reasons he can honestly beat anyone. The best version of Yugi is the one from the Dark side of dimension as he does not depend on Normal monsters and actually has a strong deck, that goes double for Kaiba. Even with those decks they still most likely fall to other characters in the series. Like i mention before, thats what i meant about Main character reasons and plots. In a honest duel Yugi can't win against someone like Reiji who is literally a duelist built to overcome any duelist to the point its almost always a 1 sided fight against nearly all characters and its kind of unfair to be honest. Its most likely Yugi is number 1 because of nostalgia and the heart of the cards, thsts all fine, but i am viewing them as actual characters and duelist. I get your point btw.
