There aren’t many animals on Earth that can match the wit, loyalty, and strength of a dog. These versatile canines have adapted to living in the wild and coexisting with humans, integrating themselves into their families and becoming one of the most trusted animal companions in history. Although most of today's dogs mostly live their lives as pets, there’s no denying that these animals are built to do amazing things; a single Australian cattle dog can move hundreds of sheep through rough terrain, The Bernese Mountain Dog pulled carts full of essential weaponry and supplies to soldiers during WWI as well as haul refugees to safety, and the Alaskan Malamute can pull extraordinary loads for hundreds of miles through frozen tundra in extreme weather conditions.

I grew up with Rottweilers and always considered that breed to be the strongest. However, I ended up owning a Dogo Argentino, Rhodesian Ridgeback and Fila Brasileiro. Dogos and Filas are definitely a step up in the strength department. Dogos having an overall body strength but Filas have an unbelievable huge head and neck. It’s hard to explain unless you have owned one. My filas nexk reminded me of a horse neck. All three were the best dogs ever. My Fila passed an I miss him everyday. My Dogo is 14 and living the senior life which includes eating everything in sight and sleeping. 😂

Great list! Thanks from Ontario, Canada! It is very difficult to come up with a list like this. Irish wolfhounds only live for 7-8 years and they were my favored breeds during my teens until I found out that they are so short-lived. However, I may still end up keeping one. Thanks for showing working Tibetans and not China's designer variety. I love Central Asians. My parents kept them when I was young. I am still in love with the breed and am friends with a great breeder from California. We also had a female bully kutta, who used to guard our small flock of goats. She was a sweet lady. At present, I have a Hungarian Kuvasz and will in all likelihood continue having a few of them, along with an Irish I guess.

Cant say if i agree. I dealt with Saint Bernards, i live in Switzerland and where i live we have a Breeder. Yes they are also strong, but the Breed has completely change to how it was in the Past. The Saint Bernards of today became alot heavier, in the negative sense, they used to be lighter, more muscle, less fat, less coat, much more agile. Today they have little endurance. You can't use them on rescue missions in the alps anymore because they lack the physical capabilities to do it. It's one of those Breeds that got messed up badly by people. The Dogs on the list certainly can achieve higher performance levels.

A good list. As someone else said Nat all breeds can make the top 10, but as strong working dogs I would hva added the Spanish mastiff - a working dog at around 200 pounds, the Newfoundland, the Saint Bernard (both seriously strong working dogs). Maybe even the English mastiff - even though finding a working line might be challanging. I would think these breeds would be stronger than some on this list and maybe even though not generally recommended for protection, they are pretty powerful.

The Spanish mastiff is a genetic disasters their weight is not a good thing it causes them so many problems. People are putting them down well before they reach old age because the pain they are suffering. I listened to a podcast on here where all kinds of breeds are discussed with a person who has knowledge about whatever breed is the topic. The lady said that it's much more common to find them with problems than not. One thing that sets the Boerboel apart from any other breed I've owned (quite a few) is their original 'wild animal' instinct. They retain many of the instincts that a wild animal has but most domesticated dogs have lost. It's bewildering at first when you see your dog do something no other dog has ever done before (that you know of), and then it's just fascinating, once you understand what they're doing and why.
@dany1441
@dany1441 2 жыл бұрын
@Muneeb Ahmed Khan Wasn't just one thing, and I never said no other dog ever did it. But none of my other dogs ever recognized a wild dangerous animal for what it was, only my boerboel. I mean snakes, scorpions, spiders. All the boerboels I've known have an inborn fear of water, and it makes sense if you're from Africa. 😂 I also think their heightened sense of 'us vs them' is due to them just being less domesticated. For a boerboel, a stranger is basically a possible mortal threat, to a Staffordshire Bull Terrier or even a Dobermann, not so much. 😊

@@Mikegastaldo our own experience and research by some other canine experts have shown that in the absence of their owner, most of the time, even a good guard dog would get intimidated by robbers. This is so because dogs derive their courage from the presence of their humans. That Cane corso's behaviour in the presence of its humans is baffling. In our experience two or more guard dogs are always better than one in order to protect your property in absentia. Having said this, I can share that when I walk my dog (a 110 pounds, 30inches tall at the withers Hungarian Kuvasz) late at night through one particular area, there is this black German shepherd that always comes barking at the gates to warn us. I have found that he/she is left all alone to guard the property by its human who works at night. This GSD does not seem intimidated at all.

I can find a way to make most dogs aggressive and good guards on there own in absence of there owners BUT...BUT...this is only by brutal training technique and isolation and leading the dog to believe that everyone is his enemy and will harm him this results in a very unpredictable aggressive dog that is in part displaying fear aggression..a good working line German shepherd is the only breed that I personally have found that can be trained to be aggressive and still be a good confident citizen/companion...I believe it's because there intelligence is far above most breeds

Fair list, and I've considered all the dogs on the list for guarding my homestead but went with the Kangal (up to 3 purebreds and a Kangal/GP mix now) and have no regrets for the following reasons: a) Longer average lifespan and fewer health issues than other giant dogs, b) hasn't been bred for show and/or color preferences as some other breeds and seems more stable as a breed vs only certain lines than other more popular protection dogs, and c) seems less likely to attack humans unprovoked, for liability reasons, yet just as capable as any other protection breed if they think I need help. Just my take on the matter, I'm sure many would disagree. And as the video says, they do seem to enjoy working as a pack. It amazes me every day when I see my relatively young pack (oldest is 4) patrolling together as a pack or in pairs, or when they're lounging around together as a pack, or when they're off on their own and one barks an alert and they all vector in from wherever they are on the farm. Just this morning someone fired off a gun nearby and 10 seconds later my big male came charging full speed and let loose a huge roar when he got to me, to let whoever know that he was there. Ran not towards the sound of the gun, but towards me to make sure his Alpha was protected. Another few seconds later I was fully surrounded by the pack, they converged on me from 10 acres like it was nothing. Having the time of my life with these dogs...think I'll stop when I get to 8, maybe.

@@zamanski7094 Great Pyrenees. Sorry, used to Livestock Guardian folks who know the breed. And GPs are no jokes either as a LGD (livestock guardian dog). I had a male who ran from across the farm to protect me when I was a new farmer and walked through a gate carrying feed for hogs and got rushed by 30 of them, all 200--800 lbs. The dog jumped on top of an 800 lb boar and bit its head and ears and made the hogs scatter, then stood between me and the hogs barking to keep them back.

I have a question. With enough mental stimulation and excercise do you think they'd be good in a house with a big backyard?
@johncarolina
@johncarolina 2 жыл бұрын
@@cesar-lf1jw It's possible, but it would take a lot of time and work on your part, because if they're left unsupervised they will try to expand their territory to mark it, which is very dangerous in non-rural areas for the trouble they could get into. Even with my 10 acre "backyard" they pretty much got bored with it after a few days, and I went through a period when they found every small hole or low point in my pasture fence that predators could enter, and LEFT to follow the scent trail, which is a very scary time as an owner. And if they see a coyote or another dog at the fence line, they will pursue whatever they saw, and these dogs and even my Great Pyrenees could vault up and over a 6' fence without stopping when in pursuit mode. They will not back down to your neighbor yelling at them because they pursued the neighbor's dog back to wherever, as it happened to me once, and if they catch your neighbor's dog they might just kill it or attack your neighbor or get shot in the process. They can't really be taken to dog parks or be off leash, because they are all dominant dogs and if another dog pisses them off they can flip a Kangal-sized dog on its back in less than a second and clamp down on its throat, and if you have two there the other one will start biting the downed dog's legs. Mine do this to each other all the time in play and for real sometimes when one of the girls is in heat (I separate the boys and girls during heat now, having learned the hard way), and they supposedly have longer incisors than other dogs from being less evolved, and those fangs punture very easily, and I have to deal with bite puncture marks they put on each other's scruff and legs ALL THE TIME just from their play. If they do that to other Kangals, with their thick skin and fur, from their own pack, what do you think they could do to a strange dog at the dog park, in seconds, even with you there? I wouldn't do it just for the liability and vet bills. I work from home so my dogs are with me 24/7, and it took me 6 months to train them not to leave to go on patrol on their own, even if I'm outside but at another part of the farm. A lot of walking the property boundary with them, at least once a day, often twice, to teach them "our territory," criss-crossing and taking different routes to kind of keep it interesting. I just don't see how one would do that in a normal suburban backyard with neighbors around, and I think it would get old for you and the dog(s), and I also think they need at least one other dog their own size to spar with, which is basically their way of playing. They don't play fetch, they don't play with toys, though they do enjoy destroying pork and beef bones. Their play is to run and fight with each other, and the way they do it would be scary to normal dog owners.

It is actually a thing. It doesn't appear to be cruel, because nobody is making the dogs pull and they can stop at anytime. But the dog I see over and over again are Pit Bulls. They seem to be really good at it. I saw one video called Pitbull pulling 9000 kg. I had to convert that into lbs, and it came out to 19,841 lbs! =O

@@bmoesq I said pound for pound strongest. The American pit bull terrier at 50lb can stop a 150lb hog they indure brutal fights that can last 2hr or longer. Have you seen a conditioned ADBA American pit bull terrier? They have records in weight pulling and they can hang from a bite for a crazy long time. The American pit bull terrier will latch onto the face of a bull and will out work dog's on this list hunting longer and harder. Do you know what a game dog is? These dog's can defeat dog's that are bigger than themselves and have proven that time and time again. A dog like Maday or Alligator and banjo along with many of the legendary American pit bull terriers could do some things that a lot of dog's listed couldn't. Check out these dog's for yourself as well as the amazing things that that the American Pit bull terrier can do. I had an AB several years ago who was probably one of the best weight pull AB's at the time. He pulled a 3,075 pound cart in one show (cart is much harder than rails). In another show he upset another AB who was undefeated in 9 pulls and was an IWPA Gold Medalist. I now own a Bullmastiff. In my estimation my Bullmastiff is stronger and nearly as good pound for pound (he is much bigger of course). But if I stick a tire behind him he refuses to pull just because he doesn't want to. Both my AB's would pull with all their heart.
