It's no wonder I'm 41 and refuse to wear glasses. I know the glasses are generally trendy these days, but growing up in the 80s and 90s only the ugly loser types wore them!! I'm already awkward and weird looking, but at least I could remove my glasses and feel part way okay!! 🤣

It took me ten years to realize that glasses didn't make me look ugly, because movies like these were the reason I was made fun of at school . Confidence has nothing to do with looks, it is accepting yourself and loving who you are.I'm glad I love the person I have become through the years.

Yeah, you just need glasses that suit you. I have few friends who will blow riddiculous money on shoes or handbags but then buy cheap frames and then they remove their glasses when they want to look "good" O.o Just get nice frames and they might become your thing that makes you look cool and special Fortunatelly, I have seen a change in how glasses are perceived. I work with kids and lot of girls actually see their glasses as accessory (and I have even seen their friends be jealous of their glasses :)).

This is why I loved Amy's makeover in Big Bang THeory. She kept her glasses, but just gotten a pair more suited for her face and more trendy. She chopped off few inches off her hair, but did not dramatically alter it. She got clothes that were more modern, but again, she was not suddently showing off lot of skin.

So, apparently it is what's on the outside that counts, since in pretty much all of these films/shows, once the female (or in some cases male) character starts to look good, that's when people start to like/pay attention to them, & it has been this way ever since My Fair Lady, & continued in films like Pretty Woman, She's All That, & Princess Diaries.

I’ve had glasses almost my whole life, they’ve become part of my personality. When people think of what I look like, my glasses are a huge part of that. Not to mention that I actually like my face with glasses better, I think they compliment my face. Why should I have to wear uncomfortable eye contacts because someone else doesn’t like glasses? I honestly hate that trope.

I hate the glasses trope. Growing up I watched hundreds of movies that made glasses a thing for ugly nerdy people so when I had to start wearing glasses in elementary school because my vision got worse, I cried for hours, begging my mom not to make me wear them because I was afraid other kids would have just another thing to make fun of me for. It really took me years to accept what I look like and actually like myself with my glasses on.

The sad thing is that seemingly more people are buying into these ideas through social media than they did through movies. I've seen it all over. Just yesterday a guy on KZbin was complaining about women who go to the grocery store without (gasp!) doing their hair and makeup. And so, SO many similar comments (from men and women). We still put so much value in appearance and degrade people who don't meet up to our beauty standards.

8 - This one can apply of males as well. I once had a guidance council tell me that I could make "better" friends if I changed literally everything about myself. The backhanded dig at my friends was bad enough, but I called her out on it saying: "I'd rather be hated for who I am than loved for who I'm not." 1 - In my opinion, glasses make women MORE attractive, except for those weird cat-eye-shaped glasses from the early 60s and the unnecessarily large square-framed glasses of the late 70s.

One of my favorite makeovers trope was in Hannah Montana. First of all, I love Lily since she wasn't exactly not like other girls but she wasn't a girly girl either. When Miley thought Lily need a makeover just bc how she acts like one of the guys and so she can get a date to a high school dance. The guy Lily liked asked her to the dance before Lily got a makeover, the whole Matt asking Lily to the dance after Miley told her to act was just coincidence. Miley push to the makeover just bc Matt may change his mind about the dance, he did once she got the makeover since it wasn't Lily. Miley was pointed as the bad guy for changing Lily to someone she wasn't. Lily didn't even want the makeover, she was happy with the way she was, it was Miley who pushed. I can understand Miley trying to teach Lily simple table matters but changing her no.

It has always been about looks. I was once a fat kid with glasses and no sense of fashion. Thus girls ignored me and I had no friends. Then I went away for a summer, lost weight, gained muscle got contacts, and a new wardrobe. When I came back I was turning girls heads and got friends. The lesson is makeovers are like the movies. I like these cliches.

If I think about it, Lindsay Lohan and Emma Stone also played hot girls while being redheads. What's more, I'm not a movie star, but I consider myself cuter as a redhead than as a blonde (and I was born as a blonde). Personally, I find redheads and brunettes more attractive than blondes. Of course, blondes can be hot as well and I appreciate their beauty, too.

I think that the only reason anyone should ever change anything about their appearance is to make THEMSELVES happy, not because someone else made fun of them. I got lip fillers and a nose job, but because I wanted that. I have never before been made fun of because of my small lips and large nose. But I do like the way I look better after the surgery. I have also switched styles over the years to make myself happy. If I feel like it, I wear jeans and a sweater, if I feel like wearing a miniskirt and a tight top, I wear that. I diet and work out because I have a small frame and I like the way it feels better when I’m leaner. It’s all about taking care of yourself to make yourself happy, first and foremost. It’s your own body, you can do whatever you want with it.

I gotta say something about weight loss. Don't get me wrong, I'm telling this as an overweight woman who used to be obese. Losing weight may actually help you become more attractive. I see the difference. The closer I'm getting to the standard, the better I feel with myself. When I lost some weight, I was more willing to go on dates: I wasn't that ashamed of myself anymore. I realize some people don't need weight loss to gain confidence and that's great (people should take care of their health, though), but in most cases, people look for the one on their own level. For instance, attractive people date attractive people and average people date average people. If I'm attracted to cute people only, my chances of dating them are smaller if I'm overweight or obese. Of course, it may happen that an overweight/obese girl would date a slim, handsome guy. I'm not saying it's impossible, but it's definitely more difficult for a bigger girl to appeal to slimmer, attractive men. You can't imagine how many times I've heard that I'm too demanding and that I should start seeing people who are "more like me". That hurts, but maybe it's true to some extent.
