I know this is nitpicking, but as an illustrator myself who studied Norman Rockwell while in art school, he's not a "painter." He's an illustrator whose preferred medium was paint. There's an important difference there since painters are considered fine artists and as illustrators our work serves a very different purpose.
@eliserozling90434 жыл бұрын
A lot of people feel like Photographers aren't artists, but are presenters. If a photographer is an artist, than I submit to you this question: is a person who selects wall paper and hangs it on a wall an artist? Photography is Artistic, but it isn't 'art'
@kriscynical4 жыл бұрын
@@eliserozling9043 ...what is your beef with photographers? None of that has anything to do with what I was saying since fine artists and illustrators are both artists, just different kinds. If you don't think photography is an art you don't understand anything about the technical aspects of light, composition, exposure, shutter speed, or developing (or post production editing in the case of digital photography) - all of which completely change how the finished image turns out beyond what was simply there without the photographer's hand, in addition to having the eye to see what would make a good photograph in the first place. It's much more than just pointing a camera at something and pressing a button, which is why every major art school in the world has photography as a major. It would take a novela to explain why and how it's an art as well as why your wallpaper comparison is complete nonsense. (Also the process of choosing wallpaper is usually part of a larger composition of a room, which is interior design. Interior designers are also artists, as are the people who designed the wallpaper to begin with.) Art can literally be anything, if you want to get intellectual about it. Anything created with the intent to communicate a thought, idea, or emotion can be considered art, and it's ultimately up to the person who created it. If you're not familiar with Duchamp, I would suggest researching his Ready-mades as an illustration of that point.
