​@@Gertzy41Thats true in the official laws still. However, some leagues have changed their specific rules to add an exemption for helmet and head protective gear. The idea makes sense - batters are forced to wear helmets (as well as the stem guards at the back, which can fall off) now as part of the rules, but being forced to wear a helmet when they don't want to could theoretically lead to a better being dismissed hit wicket. It also encourages the use of head protective gear in general, which I think is a noble cause. None of us want to see another Phil Hughes go down.

Weirdest one I've seen was Darryl Cullinan. He miscued the ball and it dropped in the top of his pads. He pulled it out and tossed it back to the bowler. The opposition appealed for handling the ball and he got given out.

The weirdest one I ever saw was I think Chris Gayle. He tried to just block the ball but he didn't ground his bat. Somehow the ball hit a soft spot or rut, didn't kick up as high as it should have, went under his bat, and into the wickets. Ended up with a duck on two balls.

So there was the time I took a swing at a leg side delivery. The ball glanced off the bottom edge of the bat, brushed my inner thigh as it went between my legs, and then I heard the tinkle of the bails behind me. Or the time my glasses flew off and fell against the stumps but didn't dislodge the bails. They WERE dislodged when I went to pick my glasses up before starting a run.

Missing the famous "periscope" bat catch when Dougy Walters ducked to avoid a bouncer but left the bat in the air. Ball hit bat and deviated to a waiting filder.
