I have always considered that"The Sound Of Music" resonated so much with audiences, not just because of its lyrics, score, and acting, as it was set in the onset of WW II and featured a successful escape when the knowledge of the millions who did not fare so well was very fresh in recent memory.

I have fond memories of watching "Mary Poppins" and "The Sound of Music" at Christmas time. Julie Andrews is a true treasure, and while it's a shame that she doesn't appear in live action projects anymore, at least she still does voice acting work.

no, no and no, all of them are top 10 musicals in general but all of their movies are just bad, les mis and into the woods you can see sideways videos on why its bad but ill sum it up les mis being live ruined the music, and into the woods is just not a good adaptation of the funny musical that it is. phantom is just bad, gerrard butller cant realy sing this role, his makeup is a disgrace to the movie and musicals industry and shumacher direction is bland

@andrewbloom7637 I'd suggest watching a sideway video on it, but it's quite simple the music in les miserables is a metric nightmare, and they are just singing the wrong music. Disney disnified the movie and made the jokes are just not funny, in one of the funnies musicals and the cast is OK, but james corden can't sing to save his life

@@christianhines666 Damien Chazelle directed the film, which was both critically and commercially successful. He would be perfect to direct the film adaptation of "Sweet Smell of Success" (the 2002 stage musical version of the 1957 film of the same name, which unfortunately never got a chance to flourish upon its debut due to opening 6 months after 9/11). "Sweet Smell of Success" getting the movie musical treatment should revive mainstream public interest in the stage musical itself (and in the 1957 film).

I remember going to see "The Sound of Music" in the theater as a young child when it was first released. In those days, a movie that long had an intermission put in. I, however, had never been to a long movie before. The intermission came just as Maria is leaving to go back to the convent. I thought it was the end of the movie and I started crying because it wasn't fair, even 7 year old me could see how in love with each other Maria and the Captain were! Daddy got me popcorn and Mom explained what an intermission was and that no, the movie wasn't over, and I was happy again lol.

Hedwig and the Angry Inch is also a must see! It’s very much a rock opera/concert in the view of a transwoman being taken out of 1960’s Germany to America and becomes a rockstar - with some comedy and drama. Guys & Dolls is a good one too - although it is very “old fashioned” in the sense of comedy, music, and time period, it’s very much a classic.

"Sweet Smell of Success" (the stage musical adaptation of the 1957 film of the same name) is a prime candidate for the list, as the musical underperformed both critically and commercially back in 2002, most likely due to opening 6 months after 9/11. "Sweet Smell of Success" getting the movie musical treatment should revive mainstream public interest in the stage musical itself (and in the 1957 film, too). Studio: MGM Filming location: Toronto, Canada Director: Damien Chazelle (drummer for the film's orchestra) Producer: Damien Chazelle (the 2002 musical had Clear Channel Entertainment AND Harvey "Scissorhands" Weinstein attached to it) Associate Producer: Olivia Hamilton Choreographer: Sergio Trujillo Assistant Choreographer: Jennie Ford Orchestrator: Justin Hurwitz Conductors: Justin Hurwitz & Damon Gupton Editor: Tom Cross Cinematographer: Linus Sandgren Costume Designer: Mary Zophres Production Designer: Florencia Martin Hair Department Head: Jaime Leigh McIntosh Makeup Department Head: Heba Thorisdottir Supervising Sound Editor/Sound Designer/Re-Recording Mixer: Ai-Ling Lee Supervising Sound Editor: Mildred Iatrou Morgan Cast: *Dan Aykroyd as JJ Hunsecker *Carrie Underwood as Susan Hunsecker (JJ's daughter, upgraded from his half-sister) (she would record and perform "That's How I Say Goodbye" for the film's ending credits) *Ryan Gosling as Sidney Falco *Shawn Mendes as Steven "Dallas" Cochran (pianist for the film's orchestra) *Fefe Dobson as Rita O'Rourke, Sidney's girlfriend *Jack Noseworthy as Otis Elwell, rival gossip columnist (Jack originated the role of Dallas on stage in 2002 and is married to Colombian-Canadian choreographer Sergio Trujillo) *Jonathan Frakes as NYPD Commissioner Harry Kello, Sr. (trombonist for the film's orchestra) *Stephen Kramer Glickman as NYPD Lieutenant Harry Kello, Jr., Commissioner Kello's son and the artistic director of the Policeman's Ball *Ed Robertson as Billy Van Cleve, owner of the Café Elysian *Ramin Karimloo as Tony, owner of the Club Voodoo *Jared Cotter as Club Zanzibar Singer *Greg Bryk as Senator *Robyn Hurder as Senator's Girlfriend *Paula Brancati as Dead Actress *Jennie Ford as Pregnant Woman *Timothy J. Every year due to the amount of goths we have, Murder is a prerequisite in our shows. We were all visibly disappointed when our principal found out and forced us to do high school musical. We were running out of shows to do and it was either this or Chicago.
