But all of these are ok tropes that although are overused can still be seen in good movies. Real top 10 tropes that must die list: 10. person who trained in combat/weaponry once can now beat people who have been fighting their whole life. 9. the ex military figure has his wife/sister/kid/friend/dog kidnapped and has to rescue them. (it worked for taken and some others but now it's just boring) 8. The superhero's girlfriend makes the hero pick between her or saving the whole damn world. 7. Shaky cam. (I'm trying to watch the fight and all it does is make it confusing about what's going on) 6. Love triangles in YA or love triangles in general. 5. PG 13 sex scenes. (almost nobody gets turned on by those since they don't feature the real sexy parts and you have to stare at two people's backs and shoulders moving and it's especially awkward with your parents around.) 4. Highschool movies that have segregated hierarchical cliques with the top being the popular blonde bitch and her cheerleading squad and the smexy quarterback bad boy and the mc being an unpopular nerd who everyone likes after she takes off her glasses 3. the badass take no shit 2 dimensional woman aka the appeaser of feminists. (this isn't a strong female character this is just as bad as annoying damsel in distress type) 2. the bad guy's minions can't shoot at the hero due to nothing else but plot armour. (dis)Honorable mention: badguy who has a Russian/German/British accent. 1. Forced romance. the love story between the mc and the only female in the movie in a genre such as action/horror that is just added in to add more movie time.

"Superhero" isn't a troupe. It's not really even a genre. It's just a tool to tell a story. Technically all movies have a superhero (the main character). The character who is always right, can't die, indestructible plot armor. It's not different because they put on a mask. It's about the story you're telling.
@NextPlayAdventure7 жыл бұрын
Thats not really true. It might be true pretty much all of the time for blockbusters, but thats about it. Part of what makes a superhero a superhero is that he has some kind of special ability (for fighting), and they fight some evil guy with some kind of specail ability. Also, superhero movies tend to be structured quite same-ishy.

There is way more Sci-Fi than Superhero and cliché Alien invasion movies. Space on the other hand is not absolutely necessary, but quite useful in Sci-Fi. I know one that is used a lot and doesn't seem to even be acknowledged as a movie trope. In action movies, a bad guy, when they kill someone, they shoot them. Then the bad guy decides well want to shoot him some more, and then they usually precede to raise their gun up and shoot the corpse of who they just killed. They usually do this to a random person.
@Zivalene7 жыл бұрын
Tropes are not inherently bad, they are simply tools and classification of story elements. It's when they are used badly and too often that they become 'cliches' which is what no one likes. If I had to name a few... "Deus Ex Machina", "Attack of the 50-foot Whatever" "I-know-you're-in-there-somewhere" and "Evil is Fun". TvTropes is a fun little hangout spot for me.

So just because 2010s is the booming age of superhero movies, it became a problem? Same shit can be said about Sci-fi and Fantasy movies during way back in the 70s. Also, superheroes is not a trope, it's a genre. They need to be more specific about the superhero tropes like good vs bad, hero wins the day, or the hero gets the girl in the end, but not taking the whole genre and call it a trope! That's like calling romance, drama, sci-fi, or any other genres a trope. Watchmojo needs to get their shit together and smarten up.

I thought of some: 1: *That one Christmas episode.* Whenever there is a Christmas episode someone ends up not having a good time like getting in a fight with their sibling and wished they were the only child or something. Then they get knocked out or fall asleep and then when they wake up they are greeted by a angel showing what it would be like without their sibling or whatever they wished for. At first they enjoy it but later on they end up crying and wish for things to be normal again. 2: *Dropping something and then falling in love.* There is always that one scene of how someone falls in love. But most of the time it's when they carry so much stuff they slip or bump into someone and drop everything. The character next to them goes "Oh hey let me help you with that!" Then they touch hands, look at each other, introduce themselves, and fall in love. 3: *That girl that picks on her best friend's guy friend and then they start dating.* Ever watch a show like ICarly or Hannah Montana and the main character has only 2 best friends? One is a guy and the other is a girl? Well if so then you probably notice that the girl best friend would always beat up and be mean to the guy friend and then later on they start dating! 4: *When the main character (usually a girl) falls in love with somebody but their friend (usually a guy) is in love with the girl.* So it happens like this, Girl: **Sigh** "Look how dreamy that guy over there is.." Guy friend: **Gets jealous** "He's not _that_ cool!" Seasons later the guy friend of the girl start dating. 5: *That one annoying kid that bullies a adult.* I have NEVER seen a kid be so cruel to a adult irl then I have on tv. There would basically be a little boy or girl that would prank or mess around with teenagers or adults. What do the teenagers or adults do? Nothing. They try to tell the kid's parents but then the kid is like "Mommy I would never! They're lying!!!" And gets away with it. 6: *That mean neighbor.* Whether the characters live in a neighborhood, apartment or anywhere they go there is ALWAYS that one mean neighbor nobody can stan! 7: *"I was embarrassing you?"* So in a episode somebody (Mainly the main character) would have a family member or a friend or something follow them around trying to be cool and be there 'friend' but then they start embarrassing them and they would always be too shy to tell them "Hey you're embarrassing me!" Cause they don't wanna make them feel bad. But when they do the character embarrassing them goes "I was embarrassing you? Well i'm sorry it's just... **Tells a sad story** " The other character would feel so bad for what they have done and start playing with whoever was embarrassing them again. 8: *The character that can never get a girlfriend.* There's always gonna be that nerdy kid who's mainly a boy that can never get a girlfriend cause he's too "Dorky" but the stupid ones always do. Just because someone is smart doesn't mean they aren't cool. 9: *When the main character finds out they're special they panic.* It happens like this: The main character's parents or grandparents will tell them that they have powers, or that they are a witch, mermaid, etc. Or they'll find out on their own. But instead being happy they start to panic and say "WHAT?! NO!! I'M JUST A NORMAL PERSON LIKE EVERYONE ELSE!" And later on when they tell their best friend their best friend gets all exited and jealous. Later on the main character complains about not being normal and their friend goes "Just be glad. I WISH I was you." Why couldn't the friend have the main character has? The main character doesn't to seem to enjoy it after all. 10: *"English please!"* Whenever a character would say something _really_ smart one of the characters would be dumb and say "Speak english please!" Why can't they just let the smart one talk and agree with them instead of being stupid and ignoring everything they said?

I don't think I'll ever get tired of superhero movies. Although I am tired of origin stories. Granted Wonder Woman will be an origin story and sometimes you need an origin but hey sometimes they don't have to take up the majority of the movie. Remember the movie Hellboy. We basically have the opening scene that's how long 10-15 minutes and we see how Hellboy came to earth but after that he's already grown up and the BPRDs top agent. So much like the first Batman and the first Blade, Hellboy could count as a non origin story. I wish to see more first installments in a superhero movie series that aren't Origins.

It will get a great rating on Rotten Tomatoes, but who will care when no one goes to see it and the movie industry fails. No, #WatchMojo.... Watching Super Hero Movies is NOT like eating the same piece of Cake everyday, and maybe the Marvel/DC Cinematic Universe will, but Super Hero/Comic Book Movies in general will never stop being made, because People get sick of them. That is because there are Literally SO MANY Stories and characters, that are so different/unique, and run the range from simple and easy to follow, to a complicated mind fuck, happy endings, to sad endings, to twist endings, family friendly, to Mature, and fall into every catogory, from Action, and Drama, all the way to Romance, and everything in between. So they can never get old, to people stop liking them, or think they're lame, because, for the seasons I just listed, there are stories stories/characters, in all genres, with countless directions to go, there is Literally no difference between them and all other films that have ever, and will ever be made. The only difference is the Super Hero part. Lastly, there is also a chance, that if done right, the MCU/DCU could go on seemingly forever and not get old, because having a Multiverse gives you UNLIMITED Stories, and UNLIMITED options for places to go (Genres, Cross-Overs, Rating Wise, Plots, Premises, you name it Boy-eeeeee!) #InYourFuckingFaceWatchMojo! #IJustProvedYouWrongWhenYouThoughtYouWere100%RightAndThisIsYourJobThatYouGetPaidGoodMoneyFor #IfYouGuysCanGetPaidForBeingWrongMaybeICanGetPaidForBeingBetterAtGettingThingsRightThanYou #CanIHaveAJob? #Seriously #DramaticPause #CanIHaveAJobQuestionMarkExclamationPoint #IKnowWeHaveHadOurDifferencesLikeWhenIToldYouInYourFuckingFacesOrMaybeYouSaidThatToMe #WhoCanRemember #ThereIsNoWayToKnowAtThisPoint #SasquwashThatBeef! the thing with the MCU movies is they are more than a superhero movie. GOTG is a space-opera, Ant-Man is a heist movie, Thor is a fantasy-action, Spider-Man Homecoming is a high school drama, the Cap movies are political drama-thrillers. DC hasn't figured that out and I don't think Fox has either. X-Men could be so much more, to me.

Independence Day is LOOOOOADED with this trope. 3 1/2. These people don't seem willing to recognize that there is a finite number of tropes that CAN be used in movies. Eventually, filmmakers are going to run out of ideas entirely, and they will have to start repackaging the same ones, or stop making movies that have anything interesting about them.

trope is a real nebulous term. wiki defines it as "The word trope has also come to be used for describing commonly recurring literary and rhetorical devices,[2] motifs or clichés in creative works", but the merriam webster included "a common or overused theme or device". So with something like a super hero flick, you can regard super hero as a genre, but if you ascribe a sameness to the superheroes, they might be able to described as cliches. Similarly you might be able to describe gangster films as a genre while gangsterism could maybe be describes as a motif. definitions, eh? I'll admit with gangster films, i'm often distracted by a sense of having seen it before.

Ironically Endgame has most of these: Talking Animals (Rocket), Time Travel, Post Apocalypse (Thanos' Snap), Alien Invasion (2014 Thanos arrival) which created- Disaster, Chosen one (Iron Man), and of course Superheroes.

Superhero movies are pretty much a genre. They may fall by the wayside, but they've been doing a pretty damn good job since Ironman first debuted, hell the first two X-men movies, first two Spider-man movies, those were really good for their times, cant forget The Punisher either, not great, but entertaining, just like the Blade movies. I dont think superhero movies loose their luster each time as Watch Mojo says, but, there's some where your like "ehh, ok." Pretty much the Thor movies are in that catagory. Superhero flicks may go the way of action movies and westerns, but I think given the immense popularity of the comic book characters from pretty much the 40's onward to today, and with the MCU going strong, and even though DC is bombing at various points, (they still have done somewhat decent) I think theyve got a lot of life in them left.

Movies having no superheroes in them is a much more overused trope, that has become boring by now.

Every romantic comedy. It's the same plot line over and over. Boy and Girl meet, fall in love, have a falling out, realize they how much they love each other in some climatic event destined to break them up forever and than live happily ever after.

#1: Dead parents. I swear, there has never been a parent in a movie who lived to the end. Even Wolverine, who is basically immortal because of his healing powers... soon as he has a daughter, boom. Dead. Every adventure movie ever, protagonist's parents are dead. Every Disney movie ever, most loved parent dies. Every movie ever where parent and child are reunited after many years, parent dies that day. Luke Skywalker finally accepts Vader as his father, boom. Dead. It's so predictable, as soon as a parent appears on screen, the ending is already spoiled because there's a 100% chance they're gonna die, one way or another.

A little thing thats been getting on my nerves for a bit: characters saying "welcome to ___" in a dramatic/sarcastic fashion, with a small twirl and their arms extended outward. Its such an annoying way to inteoduce both characters and audiences to a new setting in the story
