Copland doesn’t get the credit it deserves. The cast is INSANELY awesome-DeNiro, Keitel, Liotta, Annabella Sciorra, Michael Rapaport, Edie Falco, Janeane Garofalo, Peter Berg, Deborah Harry, and even Robert Patrick from T2! Stallone delivers an against-type, understated, weak, and fat-he gained 35-40 lbs to make the movie-performance for the ages. This film proves Stallone has real dramatic acting chops; he’s not just an action star. He should’ve been nominated for Best Actor for this role. And he should’ve made more dramas-he’s good. The only reason the film didn’t make a ton at the box office is that it was an indie Miramax film. Had it been a big name studio flick, it would’ve had the marketing $$ needed to make its awesomeness known to the masses.

I love movies of all eras but the late 70s through 90s tend to be my happy place because that time stretches from me being a kid to me being a young adult studying film and beginning to make films... I am confident that you'd enjoy a lot of these films! The Heavenly Kid for instance is basically a Frank Capra style film with an 80s esthetic overlay 😀

I remember Frrequency and really enjoying it. I'd completely forgotten about it. Crossroads I remember too but it didn't grab me in the same way. One you didn't mention but I remember vividly was Stakeout with Richard Dreyfuss and Emilio Estevez from 1987. Started as a comedy but halfway through switched to quite an intense thriller IIRC. The sequel, Another Stakeout, was pretty poor.

As far as your list: Frequency is a good one. Secondhand Lions is also a good one and one that my dad also likes. I have seen clips of Crossroads, but hadn't seen it yet. I remember seeing Ice Pirates years back, maybe when it was still fairly new as we had cable for a time. Have heard of Pandorum, but hadn't watched that one yet. I remember family renting Next of Kin, but I didn't sit and watch that one. Something Wicked This Way Comes, while I hadn't seen the whole movie, it was always memorable. One that I wanted to mention is a lesser-known movie that I remember and had on VHS was Arcade from 1993 that starred Peter Billingsley, Seth Green, John DeLancie and Megan Ward. It came out in a similar period as Brainscan, Freejack, Johnny Mnemonic, Lawnmower Man, TimeCop, Virtuosity and the Reboot animated series. All memorable movies and 'techie'.

Good list. I have Heavenly Kid on blu ray and a couple copies on VHS. Wish a 4k on its way, second hand lions would be great on 4k too. The few I with had a 4k are White Water Summer, 3 o’clock high, captain Ron, Armed and Dangerous, Dark City, empire Records, falling Down, and Harlem Nights! Just to name a few. My list is bigger but I would love to see these updated on 4k. Have a good one.

Frequency is fantastic - anyone that even remotely likes time travel movies should see it. The Heavenly Kid is amazing; cheezy but strangely compelling. The actors are amazing (Lewis Smith is great) and Jane Kaczmarek very much legitimizes it. Jason Gedrick ended up on Desperate Housewives (made me crazy until I looked him up). And you can never go wrong with Richard Mulligan. I've always loved the "repent to get into heaven" stories (like Oh Heavenly Dog). Thanks for plugging these movies. People thing that the flavor of the week at Netflix is all that's out there. They are dead wrong. :D

I still cant figure out why Frequency isn't more popular- especially in the science fiction fandom...that movie literally has a little of everything you could want...Jason Gedrick will always be the kid from Iron Eagle to me lol... The Heavenly kid is one of those I've always loved - it was the first one my own mom brought uo when I told her about this list...- you're right, ot is something about being perfectly imperfect and needing to find the redemption - kind of like an anti-hero - the feeling that he finds out God believes in him even when he didn't believe in himself kind of thing- very compelling- and you're right, some great 80s cheese to wrap it up lol...thanks for watching and the kind words!

I have seen all of these, and I must say…The Man Who Killed Hitler and Then the Bigfoot is a brilliant film…Sam Elliott’s best role, IMO. In addition to that film, my list would include The Long Good Friday (1980), Ghost Story (1981), A Love Song For Bobby Long (2004), Beasts of the Southern Wild (2012), Diva (1981), Under the Skin (2014), The Duellists (1977), Dark August (1976), and Gregory’s Girl (1982).

Yeah, I remember hearing about Pandora, mixed reviews all over the place, never watched it, I think the reason why it probably didn’t get a lot of hype that here was because of the second transformers and Star Trek reboot that was coming out most likely got all of the attention. Pandora, sounds interesting. Frequency is really good. Remember really liking it. Definitely a hidden gem. Remember Secondhand Lions being well received when it came out but don't hear about it very much anymore. Have heard of Crossroads but haven't seen it. Will have to check it out. Sounds great. Will have to check out My Science Project. Really enjoyed Fisher Stevens in Early Edition. heavenly kid & my science project were both on cable constantly when we got cable in like 1987. i remember liking them but watched both more recently and just didn’t hold up for me. ice pirates was something my neighbor loved back in day and always hyped. just never did much for me. crossroads i remember watching just cause i was big david lee roth fan back then and of course steve vai was in his band. been ages since ive seen it. be interested to give it another watch. cool list dude….

I have all 10 of these movies on dvd/blu ray or both. I met Lewis Smith from The Heavenly Kid back in 2014 at Chiller Theater convention in New Jersey (same place i met Ralph Macchio at). He wasnt a regular guest but was there with other cast members promoting a serial killer movie. He was pleasantly surprised when i approached him wanting to meet him and talk The Heavenly Kid. A very down to earth guy. I own the blu ray Scorpion or Code Red put out i got through Ronin Flix (cool to hear MVD Rewind is rereleasing it). Crossroads is another great one and i have that on blu ray with a slipcover (i believe from Millcreek). My Science Project is on blu ray that i have (maybe Kino). There's just so many great mainly forgotten movies from 1970's-into the early 2000's for me that i own nobody talks about. More lists would be great.

I would add a movie by Alan Parker, the same person that did Mississippi Burning, a little movie called The Commitments from 1991. Basically a comedy about a guy that puts together a band in Dublin to try and get out of there. The catch is they decide to play soul. I'm talking Wilson Picket, Otis Redding, Percy Sledge type music. Be warned, the F bomb is used a lot though out the movie.

I've seen several of those in theaters (bc I'm old) but I'm writing not to recommend a movie, but a book: Stephen King's Danse Macabre. He has a section on Something Wicked and really deep-dives on the themes and I *think* he talks about both the book and the movie. There are reasons it stays with you like it does. I have read Danse Macabre practically to pieces. It's from the 80s, I think, and is one of King's very few non-fiction books - it 's really a history of horror through all media: radio, tv, films, and books. It is *fascinating* & you should get it and read it if you haven't already. Made me appreciate the genre a lot more. I wish he'd write an updated version but he's said in interviews if he'd known how much work it would be to write he would never have started it in the first place. *sigh*

A Perfect World (1993), I used to watch this all the time on vhs I got for free from a petrol station!! I never hear anyone talk about this movie, amazing performances from both Kevin Costner & Clint Eastwood The Replacement Killers (1998) The Corruptor (1999) 2 Chow Yun-Fat films I also watched on repeat in the 90s I never hear anyone talk about Dark City (1998), I wouldn't say it's underrated, overlooked maybe by The Matrix, but people do talk about this one!! Saw it in the cinema when it originally released & totally blew my mind 🤯 I actually prefer this to The Matrix & hope it gets the 4K treatment it deserves FACE (1997), British heist film staring Robert Carlisle & Ray Winstone, this is NEVER mentioned by anyone & isn't particularly easy to get hold of physically, I had the ex rental vhs tape of it & DVD I think, excellent film 👌 Love Honour & Obey (2000), another British gangster style comedy film, wouldn't say underrated, people used to recommend this back when it was released but I don't hear anyone bring this up these days, highly recommend this one Stir Of Echoes (1999), the better Sixth Sense in my opinion, massive fan of this Kevin Bacon gem!! Hope this gets a nice 4K someday 🙏 Striking Distance (1993), wouldn't particularly say underrated, but it's a Bruce Willis film I don't hear anyone bring up, great little who done it style action flick & the only film I can stomach Sarah Jessica Parker in!! 😆 Desperate Measures (1998), Keaton absolutely chews up every scene!! I think Garcia & Keaton work brilliantly together, saw this in the cinema aswell, absolutely love this film!!

"Frequency" is an all-time "go to" for me and my wife. Fantastic movie. "Secondhand Lions" was also really enjoyable. Haven't seen it in a while though, so I really should revisit it. I didn't enjoy "Crossroads" much when I first saw (back when it came out), but that's probably because I was going through a "Ralph Macchio is a puss!" phase. I recall enjoying "The Heavenly Kid", but again, that's one I need to revisit to see if it still holds up. "Ice Pirates" was goofy when new, and is goofy AF now...but, it's a good, fun, kind of goofy, not a "geez, I wish I hadn't wasted my time on this" kind of goofy. JMO, of course. Didn't really enjoy "My Science Project", but that might have been due to my expectations at the time. Next of Kin is underrated, for sure...and it's weird that I hear more folks talk about "Steel Dawn" than this one. "Something Wicked This Way Comes" will surprise folks. Yes, it's a Disney movie, but it's a RAY BRADBURY "Disney movie", which is what sets it far apart from typical Disney fare. It has far more in common with "The Black Cauldron" than it does "Mickey Mouse". Highly recommend. As for the other flicks on your list: they are now on MY list...of films I need to watch. 😁

Crossroads has a fantastic guitar duel with Steve Vai (David Lee Roth’s guitarist). BYW, check out Steve Vai’s song For the Love of God on KZbin-awesome! Something Wicked…is awesome and dark-dark is the right word! Ice Pirates is awesome, too. Love that one. A My Science Project-I wrecked a birthday party as a kid because we watched it at the party and i’d already seen it, so I was telling everyone what would happen next. (I didn’t get invited to the kid’s next b’day party. D’oh! Still feel bad about that. Sorry, Adam, wherever you are!) Good list; I’d add Krull to it. That movie rocks!

Yo, never heard of the movie, shirts, probably pretty good. It is from the 80s and that was the peak of her effects and scares. Also, if you can later, try to find a Harvard updating some of what people have either forgotten or for some reason, don’t know, Everybody remembers tell us from the crypt, but nobody remembers tell us from the Darkside, they think it was only a movie, me growing up in the 80s as a kid, I was a avid watcher of Chelsea in the Darkside and another gem called monsters, although that came out in 89 and only had four seasons so, probably the last until 93. But yeah, I think, people need to be educated about what was what, I was such a fan of tales from the Darkside that I remember when the movie was coming out and of course we had to rent it. Also, again forgive my Siri, for she understands not what I say for some unknown reason, even though I do pronounce my words pretty articulately, tales, tales, tales, yeah hopefully she got that pronunciation right. 25:48

Just checked and Joe was released on blu ray by Olive Films. You can find it for $20 and under still but i believe Olive films is no more so i wouldnt wait to long to get it.

Lol I'm literally a filmmaker who uses the latest highly technical cameras and equipment and built my own editing computer myself and just like most who have a love of physical media, I also have the latest and greatest viewing technology....so neither myself nor any other physical media collector I know of is afraid of technology nor do we resist it....however, we do love the greater quality, ownership, and nostalgia of physical media...you are welcome to "own nothing and be happy" ...

Funny, I remember the Heavenly Kid being one of two movies that taught 10/going on 11 year old me about writing tropes/cliches. By pure coincidence we rented it along with Teen Wolf with Micheal J Fox, two movies that on the surface seem Very different(one about the Guardian Angel looking out for a teen, the other discovering he inherited his family’s werewolf curse). But seeing them the same night was an eye opener. They both featured teens that were unpopular losers under they got a boost from Guardian Angel powers/werewolf powers to appear much cooler then they had, both decide to pursue the Hot popular girl while hurting/ignoring the girl next door that liked them for who they were. And both had to learn to not care about the shallow things they used to think they wanted. I actually thought one must have ripped the other off at first until I was told about cliches(and what I would later learn were tropes). From that point forward I was very conscious of stories falling back on cliches(and boy, did 80’s movies like to fall back on tropes/cliches. 🤔🫤).

The 80s cliches were the best though lol....if you want to see 2 identical films, watch Michael J Fox's "Doc Hollywood" and then watch the first Disney/Pixar "CARS" film...absolutely the exact same movie!!
