Not sure Pink Floyd should be on this list. The last Floyd album with Waters - The Final Cut - sold about 3.5 million copies. Division Bell was around 10 million and A Momentary Lapse of Reason was close to 6 million. Plus they had one of the highest grossing tours of 1987 and then again in 1994. Seems like a pretty solid comeback to me.
@garrett4575
@garrett4575 Жыл бұрын
Couldn't agree more. TFC was mediocre with a few excellent tracks (Gunners Dream, Fletcher Memorial Home, Not Now John). MLOR was decent, Division Bell was an underrated gem, a huge step up, best since the Wall, if not better. Yes, it was a success despite what critics and fans say.
@nickk6518
@nickk6518 Жыл бұрын
@@garrett4575 Also, The Final Cut was really nothing more than a solo album by Roger Waters with contributions from David Gilmour and, even less, Nick Mason and partly using unused material from The Wall. Richard Wright had already been forced out of the band by Waters. My own opinion is that Pink Floyd evolved and A Momentary Lapse of Reason and the Division Bell seem far more optimistic than the doom and gloom of Roger Waters' material.
@BillyTwoSquirrels
@BillyTwoSquirrels Жыл бұрын
@@nickk6518 100% agree with that. It was truly a Waters solo album. I've listened to it many times over the years and I like it, but not in the same way I connected with other Floyd albums. And definitely the songwriting took a turn in the post-Waters albums but they were solid albums although not in the same style as previous work.

Floyd without Roger was different but David still held it together with Momentary Lapse of Reason and the Division Bell. Granted the Endless River was the album no one needed despite it being a sentimental "swan song" for Rick Wright (of which I respect him for). However, David's solo work is still amazing and he sold out when he did Live at the Royal Albert Hall, Live in Gdansk, and Live in Pompeii.

Wow, that's complete disinfo about Pink Floyd. The breakup only proved that Gilmour could Floyd without Waters, but Waters can't Floyd without Gilmour. Since Gilmour joined the band, the Pink Floyd sound was always the David Gilmour sound. Waters was just the words, and his last album with Floyd was basically a repeat of The Wall, without the other members, and it sucked. As a writer, Waters was stuck on telling the life story of a rock star, just like The Wall already did. Meanwhile, Gilmour and crew got bigger than ever, and kept playing till they got too old.

I feel so bad for any musician who was once a top charter to being not as successful as they once were, but all these people shouldn’t worry they all have left behind amazing catalog of memorable music that still feels relevant and fresh to this day. They’re all are icon in their own right. My favourite was undoubtedly Geri both when she was in Spice girls and as solo artist their are so many songs that I liked from Geri to list and of course she’s a huge part of the Spice girls success, I also love Smashing pumpkins 🎃 “Today.” and “Bullet with butterfly 🦋 wings.” Billy has has a amazing attention grabbing unique voice, love the Doors especially with their signature song “light my fire 🔥.” And Guns and roses have a s**t loads of great songs and Axl’s voice is fantastic.

I think Geri is fine , she will ALWAYS be an ICON for me and her with her husband have a networth of $90 millions plus the royalty she gets from the Spice Girls music all these years later .. She will be fine !!

The Monkees 1987. I wouldn't call A Momentary Lapse by Floyd a failure. It had big radio play to the max, sold well globally. Just because some had criticisms of the band's abilities without Waters, doesn't mean it wasn't a respectable effort that was VERY valid.

In my opinion when it comes to music some replacements work and the band keeps moving and keep making good music but even if it's a band that makes it though tragedy you still never forget the original members Luke when Paul Grey of slipknot died I rode them off but even though loosing him sucked they kept going on to make better music and by the way it wasn't the same but I loved the song tarantula of that two original members record plus I saw themon Mellon collie tour cleanest sound I've ever heard it's like you put the record on and pushed play

You're forgetting the one band that failed to make a comeback. Dokken. They still play clubs but they were huge I mean huge from 85-88

Pretty much every glam metal band outside a few exceptions like Motley Crue and Def Leppard are playing small clubs. Glam is my favourite genre of music and most of the bands like Kix and Vixen are out playing fairs and small capacity clubs.

I thought Zeitgeist was a good album, songs like Tarantula, Doomsday Clock and United States are awesome and some of the Pumpkins' best songs and their albums after that were also good (not really sure why WM didn't even play any music from that album since the one they chose was one of their newer songs, but whatever). Also I'm not really sure if Momentary Lapse of Reason is the right pick for Pink Floyd since both that one and Division Bell are two of their best albums and I think that The Endless River would've been more appropriate
