My top 10 list along with my reasons: 10. Sarutobi: He's a figure that even the Uchihas' respected because he sought to pursue peaceful relations first before taking any other actions that might elevate the situation or actions that provide temporary resolution but create long-term consequences (glares at Konoha Elders and Danzo). Plus he's like a lovable grandpa. 9. Jiraiya: Yes he can be very pervert when it comes to women but the deep love and dedication he had to his friends and comrades plus his dedication of a dream of peace passed on in his literature and through his students helped them to aspire for great social achievements. 8. Gaara: He was instrumental in Part 1 of what Naruto could have negatively ended up growing as a jinchuriki. In Part 2, Gaara has progressed in that he wants to seek to earnestly seek true bonds but bears in mind the dangers of his position and meditative wisdom to deal with obstacles. 7. Neji: He was the most grounded person in the series who had pessimistic views that changed over time. He felt that having that curse mark sealed his fate that was unchangeable. Though he mastered his abilities, he felt he had no control over his life. He was pivotal in understanding a theme in the series they lost sight of in the long-run; no one is destined *for* greatness, rather they *aspire to greatness amid adversity* and that it's what you make of your life than letting life dictate you. 6. Tsunade: granted out of all of the hokages, she's the weakest in comparison to strength but her contributions to the medical field and provisions advocated for group repertoire (mandatory assignment of a medic-nin in a 4-cell group) was progressive in attempting to prevent less field casualties. Honestly I'm surprised no one had the forethought to think of that before hand. And in all honesty, having the surgical and biological knowledge to attack your enemy from their insides and outsides has got to be useful at least in close-range to mid-range combat. 5. Shikamaru: He's one of the greatest strategists and a circumstantial analyst that's able to prescribe the best counter-attack. 4. Orochimaru: He was the series most well developed and super creepiest villain. He valued the pursuit of knowledge over national affairs but was above manipulating such affairs to further his experiments. I can understand his goal in that solely delving in the world of politics was a vain and temporal concern and wanted something more everlasting. 3. Sasuke: first of all, why he's in this slot has nothing to do with his power set or his tragic background; its rather the desperation of being powerful enough to be able to influence events instead of becoming a victim because of them. Although it was very misdirected, he wanted reprimanded vengeance and justice for actions that made the quality of life bitter. 2. Itachi: He's the most compelling narrative-wise and character-wise, and lends to some thought-provoking stuff for a series about powered-people that can cause the most cataclysmic damage imaginable. His existential crisis of life and death, how he came to a resolution, and the bigger arching goal he was working makes him so interesting and after seeing the beginning episode of the adaption of his light novel series it seems its going to be amazing and in a way it kind of adds a refined dimension of Sasuke's reasons of becoming "hokage". 1. Swagbito. That name is all the reason you need.

Jabbar Lennett I love how people call her useless when she is more of an underdog than Naruto and overcame that. Her clan was nothing in fact in the road to ninja film written by Kishimoto senseit her parents say no one in tehir family has ever been exceptional when Sakura asks them to fill out a form for her to apply for Jounin. This implies that none of her family members even made it to jounin. She didn't have extraordinary chakra or a demon or the sage of six paths power ups. She had to work hard to get where she is.

And about what you said near the end, about Sakura being so much into Sasuke hurting her or however you wish to phrase it... why do you think she's written that way? By the end of the story, Sakura is still into Sasuke and we're still unclear on why. She was supposed to have developed, but by the end it's like she's back where she started. It's just such a disappointment... I don't get why you would write a character like that. Naruto is supposed to be all about moral lessons, this is like the opposite. The original Kakashi in Naruto was the best, up through the Zabuza arc was pretty much his prime. In shippuden he was still a pretty likeable character, but ultimately became a Naruto Cheerleader like most characters. All of Kakashis fights though were on point. Although I did quite enjoy the flashback sode to Swagbito, Rin, and Minato when they were little and how Kakashi obtained the Sharingan from Swagbito and the call back to when he was trying to teach team 7 that people who don't follow the rules are scum but people who abandon their friends are worse than scum. that was a beautiful sode.

I never really got why some people got pissed at Kakashi temporarily having the double Mangekyou Sharingan. Sure, the way he got them was stupid (or at least portrayed stupidly, it should've been done via an eye transplant), but it was one of the best moments in the series for me. Bwah. I wouldn't put Kakashi as number 1, but i like his character plenty for him to be in top 3. Whether or not he's one of the center pieces of the most hated chapter does not matter in the grand scheme of things, as he is also a center piece in equally as many loved ones. The entire obito vs kakashi part was awesome. The way that kakashi got his values is also one of the strongest points of naruto, and how he maintained them. I agree with the idea that kakashi should've used more variety in justsu, rather than using 3-4 types of raikiri and earth style, but that doesn't make him any less of a character. As for the tree part you mentioned, that sounded mostly like anger spouted, simply because you dislike the watchmojo list. It wasn't anger aimed at kakashi, but at watchmojo for picking kakashi. I dare bet that you know plenty well, that kakashi said his bonds died as a result of him making the mistakes sasuke was about to at that point. He knew sasuke was about to leave, to binding him against the tree was a safe method to make sure he didn't flee. I personally agree with his methods, and although i wouldn't have simply left sasuke, who would then get beat up by the cursed users ,the idea behind it was solid. I don't bother making a top 10 naruto characters list, since naruto has many great ones, either way someone will get pissed. Not to mention that many 'awesome' characters had very bad moments, too.

To be honest, and this isn't meant to be a slight against you, but you spend a lot of time saying 'I actually am okay with this character's placement' even though you seemed to be very upset about the countdown. Ayma Malik Oh no Sasuke's relationships in general were pretty toxic. He tried to murder naruto and sakura on several occasions, did a complete 180 and decided to murder everybody in the leaf village, hell he even tried murder Karin for getting caught by a guy who was way stronger than her and she was already drained from healing Sasuke. My problem with Sakura is mainly due to her poor development from a main character standpoint and poor way she was written. If she really had grown up and developed as much as she boasted she wouldn't have hesitated to stab Sasuke twice or when he spouted that revolution nonsense she should have went up to him and slapped him across the face or scolded him instead of making a love confession which she should have known at this point wouldn't work seeing as he rejected her love confession in the past and displayed no romantic affection to her whatsoever. Also her relationship with Naruto was also pretty toxic. She treated him like garbage throughout part 1 and crapped on him for having no parents to scold him when does something crazy. What kind of person does that? Granted she does learn from her mistakes later on but it doesn't make up for the fact that she treats him terribly for the most part, relies way to heavily on him for the majority of situations she's in and despite seeing with her own eyes the damage Sasuke and her were doing to him she still doesn't get it until Sai gets it through her thick skull. Again I can't hate her because the majority of female characters in this show are poorly written in fact I would say that Tenten is much worse than Sakura seeing as she is completely useless and has no character outside of berating Lee and kissing Neji's ass. Plus there are characters who are way worse than Sakura like Danzo, Boruto, Kaguya, those two cloud ninja students of Killer Bee, etc. Anyway that's my two cents.

i have not completely read the manga or caught up to the anime. however from the little info i have seen and know, i still wouldnt put them up there. ONLY because i have not seen anything background related to these characters. Temari is strong no doubt along with Konan. But story wise they' were supporting characters and had no real time to be fleshed out in my opinion. which is a shame because thats the problem for a majority of the naruto female characters but Hinata and very vaguely sakura.

+Sakuya 97 I see where you're coming from. And I in no way dislike these characters. I would've loved seeing more screen time for honestly any female character. However. The one thing that differs characters like Kushina is that she had a background story. You could argue konan had one too (that flashback) but she wasn't the main focus sadly. Although that might've been because her character was aloof if I remember correctly. If they had shown Kushina just talking to naruto I don't think she would've been as great. But. They showed her background story and how she died and her birthing naruto. I don't know if those episodes were filler or not but from what I know they were there. I agree a lot of the characters got casted aside during shipp. and it's saddening. Although this is just my opinion on thing a of course

Poverty is an issue and I think people should learn collective value such as sharing. That's what makes a good society imo. In opposition to what has been said on the subject, reduce poverty would make a growth in the GDP (see Keynes marginal propensity to consume).

We could rant about this or we could rant about Naruto: Infinite Fillerden. I love how at the preview of this week's episode (The last episode of the Tale of the Jiraya Ninja Scrolls Part One, God forbid there ever be a part two to this travesty) was basically a bait and switch. They showed Team Seven preparing to fight Madara while taking shelter from the Infinite Tsukuyomi under Sasuke's Susanoo, and then at the very last second BOOM ITACHI SHINDEN, SUCKAAAS!!! I would have no problem with Itachi Shinden if it wasn't inserted into the main series as a filler. This is the kind of crap that needs to be aired AFTER the main story has been wrapped up. But instead of that, we have Itachi Shinden slapped right the fuck into the main story as another 5-6 months of filler hell. Naruto Shippuden is never going to end, folks. Studio Peirott is going to try and see just how long they can get away with this filler bullshit, and it's going to result in the series dying a premature death the same way Bleach did.

***** 1. Berserk isn't complex in and of itself [story wise] The concepts it makes it's readers think about are but this isn't about Berserk or you're minuscule knowledge of my likes or dislikes. 2. You could hardly call the infatuation that Sakura had for Sasuke love. She thought he was cute and cool. but that's it. She knew NOTHING about him and the things she did know she found out from a 3rd party NOT from Sasuke directly. Sasuke even called her a nuisance and tried to kill her on multiple occasions. 3. Lost in Darkness- I would have some respect for Sakura if she didn't continue with her claims of love, that were based off her skin deep understanding of Sasuke and just pursued him as a friend like Naruto. Someone who considers your feeling and loves you doesn't act the way Sasuke acted toward Sakura and someone who loves themself doesn't let themself be treated the way Sakura was treated. My concept of love isn't as cold as you think it is. I just have an Adult outlook and not such a childish one.

Watchmojo lists are basically popularity polling so its not surprising team 7 took the top spots since people would be most familiar with them. Their anime videos are generally pretty bad, they basically start with open voting and then surface level research afterward to add context to whatever the public picks. There's no real metrics involved in the decisions.

Not true at all. Sakura was ranked #33 on the highest voted WM poll so there's absolutely no reason for her to be so high on the list other than extreme bias. She doesn't fair well on the latest official Naruto character poll either, ranking at only #12 (Hinata got #10).

Sakura is probably the most identifiable female in Naruto beyond the series fanbase. She's usually prominently featured in promotional material and is probably second in overall screen time total behind Naruto. Its not as if WM only polls fans of the series. Fair or not, it just isn't surprising she would show well among casual anime watchers. It has a lot to do with basic recognition.
