He may have only one two races but he was always extremely consistent and showed up every week. @@JSchaffer214 that's a great arguememt, and it's not like any of said names are far fetched. Hell, one could argue Biffle, considering his truck/xfinity or busch sucess. Or Carl's raw speed. But Mark gets brownie points for laying the foundation for Kenseth. I personally would give the talent nod to Matt and Kurt, but perhaps the greatest Roush driver is a major toss up. Ricky Rudd is the only driver I've ever seen who uses the heel-toe technique the same way I do. My feet are too big for me to turn my heel to the gas pedal so I've always used my heel on the brake and blipped the throttle with my toe. I figured I was doing it "wrong", but what works, works. Cool to see that a respected professional like Ricky Rudd drove the exact same way when it came to downshifts, and that it netted him numerous road course victories
@99EKjohn
@99EKjohn 2 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure I've seen a few rally and f1 drivers use the same technique, before they had semi-auto gearboxes, due to not having much room in the foot-well. How you rev match is pretty irrelevant to getting the match right. I normally use the side of my foot because it makes transitioning to left foot breaking easier. As long as you don't destabilize the car, it's a legitimate technique.

Fun Fact about Carl Edwards: In the 2008 Race of Champions, he managed to beat Michael Schumacher, yes that Michael Schumacher. It's really funny because the commentators of that Event were just basically laughing him off for the entire Race as just a simple NASCAR driver and then were surprised when Schumacher lost. And it wasn't even close, Carl beat Michael by roughly 1.5 seconds.

Thank for covering the older stuff. I haven't watched nascar since they went to the same 4 tracks most weekends. I know they're different they look the same.

totally agree with the number one slot.Junior Johnson is my all time favorite driver/owner in the sports history.It's also the one reason i support whoever drives the number 11 every year,as this was both cup winners Cale Yarborough and Darrel Waltrips number (both JJ runners).

You've got to remember one thing about Mark Martin. He had the championship in hand in 1990, but Nascar decided to dock a bunch of points from him, over a small part that ended up not making a difference, performance wise. Thus the title went to Dale. Otherwise, Mark would have had plenty of points to take the championship that year. Thats a fact. Just take from it what you will.

I know I'm biased as a Rudd fan,but he was closer to winning a championship than Jr ever was
@RB3Author
@RB3Author 3 жыл бұрын
Technically speaking, you're correct. Rudd's best points finish was 2nd. Jr's best points finish was 3rd. So he was slightly closer. But Jr has more national championships (2 NXS to Rudd's 1 IROC) and more Cup Series wins (26 to 23). In the end, it kind of evens out.

Yushan Chen I also thought that Dale jrs career would have been better if his father never passed away. More so because I felt like he felt that if that could happen to him the it could happen to jr. And we all know the Teresa stuff so yeah

Eric Marchesini don’t forget scott McLaughlin he has a lot of potential and is still young and seems like he will replace power or pagenaud replaces once they retire once they retire, and don’t forget Herta and other young drivers coming up the ranks the next ten years in indicar are going to be very Interesting and it would be a shame if Rossi never gets his championship

Bat-man Scott McLaughlin could retire SuperCars and move from Australia to North Carolina and Colton Herta has got a 20 year career and join Rossi and Newgarden for INDYCAR Championships and Indy 500 wins.

I would’ve had James Hylton on the list. Even though he only had 2 wins, his stats are still very impressive with 301 Top Tens, considering he drove in an era dominated by Richard Petty, David Pearson, Cale Yarborough, Bobby Allison, Bobby Isaac, Benny Parsons and other spectacular drivers. He had 10 Top 10 Points finishes, 8 of which were in the Top 5 in points. Thise included 4 3rd place points finishes and 3 Runner Up points finishes. Those 3 Runner Up years were in 1966 and 1971 to Richard Petty and 1967 to David Pearson. In 1966 he was also Rookie of the Year.
