Almost three years into building my library it feels like most of my pickups qualify for "new to me." Black Sonata, Dawn of the Zeds, Maquis, Sub Terra, Fleet: The Dice Game, The Isle of Cats, and Lisboa all provided me with so many hours of high quality entertainment in 2023🎲

So the map in Malaney's Inheritance reflects the European perspective of America during a time of significant political and cultural differences. The Cold War era was rife with contrasting views and understandings of the world, and the game's map subtly mirror these perceptions. Also, I made this up.

For some reason I had never heard of Maloney's Inheritance. That looks so interesting! Neat art, too. Great list of games! I think one of my favorite things in the hobby is discovering old games I really love! There is a game from I think like 1970 called 'High Bid'. It's an auction style game with set collection. It's definitely not contemporary in feel but I would have NEVER guessed there was an auction game with set collection back then!!!

Iki originally came out in 2015 and there was a new release in 2021. I played it for the first time at DTW and I love this game. It's a mid-weight Euro where you move around a rondel that is the market place in Edo, Japan. Interesting decisions and multiple paths to victory.

I've never heard of Glass Road before, but it looks intriguing. I'm absolutely shocked that Hansa Teutonica would be as low as number 8. It's an absolute classic. However, if you're thinking that it's "kind of a mean game", you're somewhat missing the point. When you dislodge one of an opponent's tradesmen, not only is it costing you an extra one (or two) of yours, but your opponent gets to bring back one (or two) of his/hers from the general stock (that is, one which had not been immediately available to him/her) and place it on an adjacent trade route. It can be a boon to your opponent, and they will often intentionally place a trader in your way to force you to dislodge it and gain the advantage for themself. You might need to play this again, maybe with 4-5 players to see how this works on a crowded board.

@@TheBrothersMurph Nana means "seven" in Japanese, which is the country it originated in. Makes sense since getting seven is two of the goals in the game. Glass Road in 2p is perfection. The tension of card play combined with cool resource wheels and a little map building, cheffs kiss. We have made a slight change and play our 2p with the 4p side of the market, just to have more buildings (and therefore strategies) available.
