@@nickritchie2154 I think that's a big stretch. Bonecrusher Giant is the only way Quakebringer gets triggered from the graveyard in mono red, and why would you ever cast a 5 mana 5/4 that can be countered, and doesn't have haste, when you could just cast Torbran, or Embercleave instead? It's just nowhere near good enough. Quakebringer in rakdos self-mill MIGHT be playable, but it's also a 5 drop, that just sits in your hand if you don't hit your 5th land, and it's not something you ever want to cast to begin with.

fun deck with mystic reflection: there's a gimmick deck called MANY RELICS focused around relic robber and mystic reflection. all you need to do is get one construct from the relic robber onto their board and then mystic reflection any creatures or planeswalkers into more constructs and they ping themselves to death. it's got a pretty decent win rate for a gimmick deck, too, and honestly it's just hilarious when they try to, say, cast ugin and you turn him into a 0/1 goblin construct that pings them for 1 each turn. the decklist is around, the deck is literally titled "MANY RELICS". It's basically an izzet rogue deck, which is great.

27:56 World Tree I hope you're right about this card, but the fact that it's not legendary means that this can easily be abused, not for the WUBRG meme, but for the "Chromatic Lantern" passive and the absurd amount of power that can bring. This probably has a lot more viability for non-aggro historic as A) there's a lot more mana ramp options, and B) they're a lot more gods to choose from in case you're interested in the meme. But essentially this card allows both monocolor and multicolor decks to splash cards they would normally never attempt. As a Bo1 player I think this will be VERY fun with sideboard tutor effects, take a 1-2 color deck and give it access to Ultimatums and other difficult color requirement cards.

Fun with mystic reflection: Opponent casts creature. You turn your crawling barrens into creature in response. You cast mystic reflection, target your crawling barrens. The opponents creature enters play as a 0/0 crawling barrens and dies. Thats a creature counter for only 4 mana! Naturally your crawling barrens dies to the opponents revenge spell afterwards.

I get where cgb is coming from, but I think mystic reflections is underrated for a number of reasons. The foretell cost adds on confusion, chaos, and concern about "what might be that card you just foretold?" This will sometimes make opponents play dumb around something they have no way of knowing. Every different card with foretell on it in a deck makes every other foretell card stronger due to not being able to guess an opponent's battle plans. Second, being able to choose ANY creature anywhere on the board shouldn't be underestimated. If either deck runs tokens (and let's be honest, there are few decks who don't), you have a potential rewrite over any game changing creatures and planeswalkers. Making an opponent fear your one mana open with a shark token and a single foretell card is an amazing feeling. I may end up stalling their combo plans until they're sure it's "safe." If not, I for one look forward to replacing torbran with a 0/4 wall token. Decks with flash creatures, tokens (especially at instant speed), or small, situational creatures will find massive benefits with this card. Third, it's a combo/game win interrupt. Turning a Heliod or a Lovestruck Beast into a windrobber or ruin crab can devastate a game plan at crucial points in the game. Lastly, situationally, it generates mana advantage. Probably the least important aspect, but worth mentioning.
@qubingjianshen82104 жыл бұрын
33:45 I agree that The World Tree activation is unlikely going be the intended wincon in a tournament competative deck. I still think its worth noting that when you attack with Jorn, God of Winter, you can activate The World Tree if you have 5 snowlands in play, for a total of just 6 lands. And since The World Tree fixes all the mana for itself, you can even do that in a monocoloured deck if you so prefer, although you would then have fewer targets to fetch. Changelings are also gods for added consistency.

@grip77774 жыл бұрын
Good thoughts, especially on the world tree. I was looking to most of these cards in commander personally, the world tree is more relevant if you have a bad manabase in commander and want to play some 3-4 color decks that includes green that can also fetch with sylvan scrying etc. This means you could risk more cards with riskier manacosts that you might otherwise not even consider for commander at all because their cost sometimes makes it unplayable. Of course there will be the inevitable gods-deck that will be fun to brew but I think there is the case for 4 color silliness too. For standard I never want to guess how any of these pan out because I'm usually wrong.

Quakebringer is a natural fit in Kroxa Rakdos Midrange though, mill the card with anything and suddenly your Kroxas and Bonecrushers are pinging your opponent for 2 a turn (or more, if you have multiple in the grave). Since the deck is heavily focused on discard and attrition, your opponent will be a lot less likely to have removal available than vs, say, aggro. Also, Kroxa pings, Immersturm Skullcairn pings, this pings, Bonecrusher Giant pings, and pings on targetted removal... all the non-combat damage can get out of hand really fast, adding up pressure. Also, nice!

I think you underrated Quakebringer. People will be playing this in combination with the giant that lets giant sources deal double damage. So it's 4 damage each turn, not 2. A 5 turn clock if the opponent is on 20, but likely a clock that is a lot shorter.

definitely liked this video - very reasonable analysis. few additional comments Starnheim Unleashed: 9:00 Legion Angel or Emeria's Call are almost always strictly better in standard. I think for this card to payoff you need mana doubling cards - but in historic it competes with Finale of Glory, which is almost always superior. 10:37 Raven's Warning: Additionally, the tutor effect happens AFTER your draw step, so you won't be able to benefit from it until you draw another card. This makes it worse because A) you don't know what the opponent will do next turn so you may not make the best tutor decision, and B) Mill is a real thing, especially in standard. This may fit in the Azorius Flyers archetype though. At least you don't have to reveal it though.
@qubingjianshen82104 жыл бұрын
Cosmos Charger only lets you fortell cards from your hand at your opponents turn, it doesn't give your fortell spells flash/instant speed. So Starnheim Unleashed 10:10 can't be cast at opponents endstep.

Ok, i got to stop you right there. I read ravens warning and my first thought was cgb will play this in more decks than mazemind tome. It is a super value engine, not just for what it does which is nice for 3 mana but for what it makes the opponent do. They have to destroy this before chapter 3 or be ready to flash mill your sideboard wincon, make them waste removal. They have to block your flyer on chapter 2... this is control, they will not have many blockers, do they waste bloodchief on a 1/1 or use the only blocker to prevent 1 instead of blocking the bigger threat on the ground? This card will dominate control because it does everything control wants to do, if you are also holding negate for the broken wings they are going to waste several cards to get rid of your turn 3 tempo play. Heed my words, cgb will run this often and learn to love it before it rotates out. Btw, you can preorder now on coolstuffinc.com use code cgb5 and save 5%! Lochmere serpent is good in the deck since you can sacrifice lands to its abilities and get them back with Jorn’s staff. Also priest of the hunted edge is quite nice in a snow deck.. then to get it back with the staff is sweet. Lastly, Ascendent Spirit is definitely stellar. So you're saying we should repeatedly pester you to build a World Tree and Maskwood Nexus deck? Got it!

I think Mystic Reflection is good as a counter if u have Stonecoil Serpent on ur field.

Some of these I thought were just ok, I mean the uncommon lands are kind of universal in their colors, especially the UW one. The only one I'd put in enigmatic etrata is the dimir port. Reanimation is really useful when your etrata's are removed or milled. Other than that I thought that mystic reflection would be just a good card, but drown in the loch does exist. All of CGB's points are good points. But really, people think the word tree is an auto-in? It's... it's just not that good.

Why not Quakebringer in a Rakdos Sacrifice/Self-mill pile? You're mostly casting giants anyway.

He literally said "I'm not saying these cards are bad, they just shouldn't go in every deck because it's your decks color"

Mystic Reflection looks like something you'd slide into a janky Risen Reef deck.

New players, CGB's over/under vids are not on powerlevel alone. Look at it as where to spend ur wildcard. The over rated cards will leave you with less deck building options in the future as you want to try new things. Most of the underrated list goes good in "most" dex in those colors

gonna add mystic,king narfi, and god of death in my rogue mill and dimir control..must be nice

I agree with you specially the land cycle and the angels foretell card. Beware though the Cosmos Charger let's you foretell at instant speed, not cast the cards at instant speed. So you still can only make the Angels on your turn and have to wait until the next to attack which is why I'm not even that much excited about the card in the foretell focused deck. Although it could be a decent finisher for control still, if you foretell it early. Also absolutely agree with the World Tree beign ridiculously overrated, like if you have 6 lands already you should have all the colours you need for the most part.

I can only imagine he eats his words soo hard that he never plays another food deck. Although he left enough disclaimers to keep his butt covered. Lol

I actually like Sarulf in historic. He destroys so many token combo decks if he can survive with just one counter lol
