I don't understand why 9/10 people would rather have a +1 Str bonus over an additional 20-30 points in a defensive category. I feel like unless you're going up against a magic user then you're better off with those def bonuses over that one str bonus as you'll get hit less often/ for less which can increase trips and cost less in supplies. I guess by the same token the faster you kill your enemy the less supplies you'll use as well but I'll take getting hit less often and for less than a +1 to my max hit anyday

I don't like this video. Basically, if an item isn't BIS at all activities, you say that the high cost makes it not worth it. A good player knows when they should use a tbow vs a blowpipe etc. I feel like a better way this information could have been framed would be '10 Popular Items with Budget Alternatives' No way you'll catch me at DKS with a fury... I already save invent with SUPER COMBAT and prayer flicking exists to get the most out of my restores. Why wouldnt I want to do maximum damage? Again, for a player with budget concerns/low stats or lack of game knowledge, some of this info may help. But I would hope that most people already understand when an item is BIS or just niche. The title sure made me click though ;)

Agreed. As a player close to 99 slayer, I can't stress enough how u need some of these items mentioned in the video. U want to hit maximum damage at all times to get fastest xp rates. I know that there are alternatives, but as many ppl said: osrs is all about dps, u dont really need defence...

I was trying to explain this to my friend and most people don't get it. Strength bonus in general is extremely overrated, accuracy is way more important. In most scenarios it's better to hit two 25s than to hit a 30 and a 0. No matter how high your strength bonus is there is always the chance that you can hit a 1 which is why I believe they should change how strength works. Instead of only increasing your max hit it should affect the range that your hits will be between. For example, with x strength bonus, assuming that you don't hit a 0, your hits will always be between y and z value.

@@tf21271 I don't think he ever used bad, just heavily implied that they're not good, which if you think about it is exactly the same thing. His examples were taking items completely out of the area where they are far superior to their counterparts which is an unfair and misleading way to evaluate usefulness. Also I disagree that someone at a high level should be investing in skills rather than upgrading PVM gear. PVM is the fastest safe way to make money in the game, to be efficient you should use the best gear available, money made after you have BIS gear can be used for skills, but it makes no sense to get 99 farming, construction, smithing, herblore etc instead of increasing your potential GP earning ability.

@@TheRuneSlayer i don't believe that getting 99 farming, smiuthing or herblore is gonna help much in your pvm money making either, however skills like construction which will give you the ornate rejuv pool, various teleports etc etc, magic, range which could be sped up massively by spending the money on them instead of buying the bis gear for them. for example, a setup with full ahrims, barrows gloves an occult necklace, trident of the swamp and a book of darkness with 99 magic is better dps and def than full ahrims, an arcane spirit shield, sang staff and torm bracelet. the point still stands that this is not for high level players, this is for mid level players who have money to spend but instead of spending it on the gear mentioned in this video it would be more beneficial to buy gear that is cheaper, offers multiple uses instead of something that is used for a small amount of bosses or activities.

Again your argument is so subjective, in a certain circumstance yes it's better to get more generically useful items to be OK at a larger number of activities, however if you're looking to be at least semi efficient, itd be better to invest in high end gear for a specific boss such as vorkath or zulrah and stick with it until you can afford gear for other bosses. At the end of January I sold my entire bank (save my DHL and DFS) for a twisted bow. I did raids with void, twisted bow and DHL for 3 weeks, occassionally doing vorkath with DHL, torso and torag legs when I couldn't find a team, and because of my investment in twisted bow, I was getting much faster cox runs and I've made well over 300M in those 3 weeks. Granted I'm already base 80's with several 99s, but apart from 82 construction (which only cost 10M or so) no other skills have been necessary or even useful in that money making. If I had invested the money for twisted bow into skills alone I may well have all 99s banked, but I'd be stuck making a couple mil an hour at most as opposed to averaging 9M an hour as I am currently.

@@TheRuneSlayer I get your point, and personally agree with your decision of getting a twisted bow simply because of how great it is at select bosses, but literally getting 99 range with lets say chinchompas for 50m and instead of a tbow using lets say an acb until you can afford the tbow, it would've been a lot more efficient as i have already demonstrated the difference between budget gear and max stats vs max gear and slightly lower stats, and you'dve made the extra 50m for the tbow in no time with cox. if we also add in magic which would cost around 40 mil, you'd still only need to make 90m to get the twisted bow back, which in the end would actually end up being more efficient. we've sort of strayed off of the topic of the first comment and i'm sort of tired of arguing to a wall so i'll just end on this

I think the Bandos one is the most common for stuff like slayer. You're *much* better off spending the money on verac's skirt, proselyte hauberk, prims, torture and maybe an sgs to use piety or even 10% prayers on task. I constantly see players in Bandos with dragon boots complaining about the cost of prayer and not using any on slayer. The SGS alone is enough to maintain the 10% str prayer, and even using piety the faster kills usually increases gp/hr. Second is similar, but players using armadyl before getting pegasians which are a much bigger range attack increase and a more worthwhile switch if using god d'hide for the lack of negative meleee stats.

If you kill the things 20% faster that means 20% more drops and 20% more xp which in turn increases the speed even more. Being BiS doesn't mean it can't be overrated, many of these things are very very overrated, Bandos Tassets despite being extremely popular give a whopping 2 strength bonus, against non-ranged bosses they are often literally not worth wearing. They are overrated because people overestimate how much of an impact they have on your account, the only one I'd disagree with on his list is the twisted bow cause that thing is honestly disgustingly overpowered, but paying 50m for bandos to do slayer or something is honestly a complete waste of money.

"Overrated" and "good" aren't the same thing. It's about how good something is relative to how good it is perceived. How good it is perceived is indicated by it's price (although supply also affects that). So the video is comparing how much better the upgrade is vs how much the upgrade itself will cost. He's also assuming people aren't maxed, because he mentions spending the money on skills like construction rather than the upgrade.

Max hits are nice, but what good does hitting 2 higher do when u take 25% more damage from the loss in def? I don't like his list either, but 'BiS' damage items are not always the most efficient. For example, I will take Guardian Boots over prims almost always b/c they provide Decent Str and prayer, but much better def than prims.

The math of the game dictates that def will help u more against high dps monsters If I'm fighting 0 def monsters who do no damage of course it's better to use str gear. But if I'm fighting a boss with high accuracy and def, it's more efficient to use 25% less food and teleports, and extend ur stays, than to use gear that gives you lower def, making u use more food and teles, just so you can do an extra 5% potential dps. So ur option becomes do 5-10% more damage, or stay 25% longer/trip and use less supplies. Seems a no brainer to me, so I'll just keep playing the game 'wrong' Also this purely applies to real accounts, not pures.

I'm a little surprised the arcane spirit shield and scythe of vitur didn't make the list. The scythe is especially bad since it's often too pricey to use if you want to make a good profit and it's only a significant upgrade at a couple places in the entire game. Compare that to the twisted bow which is an upgrade in probably over a dozen places.

Scythe is used for the best money maker Tob and we now have Nightmare If you don't Tob I don't recommend buying a scythe for sure. As for twisted bow I don't see any use beside inferno and raid 1 but tob make twice as much per hour, any other place is easily replaced with a blowpipe but you kinda waste your time if you doing these method for money. For arcane kinda wished the polled upgrade for the mage book dmg boost was for arcane but yeah arcane is kind of overrated not useful for slayer and basically no boss which require mage accuracy, mostly used for defense and no downside in combat stats.

I get what you're going for but painting with such broad strokes really makes this video sound inaccurate. Obviously the super combat isn't needed for abyssal demon slayer tasks, but for bosses, bringing 2 super combats and 4 brews/restores is better than 6 super potion sets, and their cost is justified due to opportunity cost (i.e., longer trips). And saying twisted bow/zenytes are bad because they sacrifice defense fails to account for the fact that you can safely sacrifice defense in almost all high level pvm (which is what these items are used for) without dying/getting shorter trips (hence why they're often tethered to blood barrage/sang staff) and that the TBow melts most higher bosses so fast that it's *better* than having high dps because you end up taking less damage anyway because of how fast they die. Not even mentioning the low supply cost and speed increase for kills/hr. Overall yeah you get diminishing returns on your investments in BIS equipment, but it's still the best for a reason.

i actually would agree with him on the two necklaces, but mine is mainly based on prayer bonus by itself. I mean I think the +15 defence helps out more than the +5 attack increase and possibly 1 max hit. But it is situational for slayer or 100% pray PVM like hydra use them but at bandos or zulrah I would never use a torture / anguish over fury for the def + prayer. But then again ive also never like using armadyl either, never found worth it unless its a mage heavy boss that you cant also protect mage against.

I don't think comparing price point to flat stat bonuses is a fair way of judging items. Items in oldschool are intentionally designed to be niche in order to prevent power creep as long as possible. Jagex does a very good job of making sure that new items don't completely undermine the application of other existing items. To fairly judge whether an item is overrated, you must compare it to other items in the context of specific applications. There is no alternative to tbow that performs even remotely similarly at Zulrah, raids, the inferno, or gwd. This video asserts that the marginal flat stat increases of bis items are unfairly priced. The fact is, when there is no where else to get that extra +5 stat bonus, that extra +5 becomes highly valuable. By suggesting that you should get more stats when you pay more gold, the dragon scimitar should then be worth hundreds of millions because it has +22 slash bonus over the rune scimitar. It's not about the amount of flat bonuses. It's about whether you can make up those stats anywhere else, and for bis gear, you can't. That's why it's bis.

Pegs are "overrated" as well. A lot of these items are still BiS and if money isn't any issue you'd want them. His point is that money spent on these items often isn't worth it for players who aren't already maxed. Pegs fits that list. It's a luxury item If you're mid level, the best thing you can do is finish getting mid level gear and levels before going after the BiS stuff. Get Barrows, whip, toxic trident and blowpipe. Get your skills high enough to get a quest cape and a good house setup (pool, tele nexus and ring/tree). And, I can't stress this enough, get Rigour before any kind of range gear upgrade. I know it feels bad sinking a bunch of your bank into something you can't ever sell back but it's worth it, once you have it you can start killing Zulrah or Vorkath to work on gear. It's a much, MUCH bigger upgrade to range dps than pegs or arma or even anguish

mucktheduk thanks for the tip, I almost kind of forgot about Rigour. I def get rigour first, as i have a high prayer lvl and my range lvl is almost 91. I have all the mid level stuff except for void because im just going to go get elite void all at once because i hit cmbt lvl 100. After that, I will def do construction for pool and jewelry boxes. And i kind of hate questing so ill do that in parts. I do have mm2 done and im close to the lvls for ds2. What other quest should i shoot for besides those 2? (I have barrows gloves btw so i have around 180 or 181 qp, i forget the exact #)

Pegasians are probably one of the last items you should buy. The dps and defence increase over god d'hide boots is minimal and there are a lot of more impactful and cost effective items to purchase first.

The BIS upgrades in this game are so minimal for the price. It's a shame because people think they NEED the BIS to do certain bosses / activities when they would be fine with the 2nd best option in most cases.

It's not about needing it, it's the fact that upgraded gear literally allows you to do everything in the game faster, allowing you to make more money, gain more xp and just generally achieve your goals sooner and have more fun in the process. The money you spend on upgraded gear isn't lost lol, it simply exists in the form of an item rather than gold pieces, so why wouldn't people want upgraded gear when all it does it make your time on the game more enjoyable?

MFW DFS was the first one in your list >.< I found screenshots on my old laptop from 2010 of me in my dream gear which includes the DFS. It's pretty fun to use if you're doing Wildy stuff and your opponent doesnt have anti-dragonfire pots. Hit activate on the shield to snipe em if you have melee and a PKer is freezing you to give them a longshot that risks it all.

The Tbow is worse than the blowpipe at some bosses if you're using dragon darts which is so expensive. People don't only care about kill speed they care about net profit and Tbow is King at many bosses in those terms.

Zenyte jewellery was designed to have passive lifesteal "10% chance of healing 5% of the damage you deal" per the monkey madness 2 dev blog, so torture would have been similar to blood amulet of fury and also adding a zenyte sink, but it failed the poll.

Yeah I highly disagree with the dfs being overrated. it not only provides dragon fire immunity from most dragons but also has high defensive bonuses even if not the best bonuses also some strength bonus, all that for less than 6m... Also for the ancestrals if you add up all the bonuses with like the kodai, bracelet, cape, tome and maybe a slayer helm you do insane amounts of damage. The dragon pick is the bis non-degradable when mining or raiding so you could understand why it has such price...

Alot of these items are not overrated at all. Zenyte is one of the core items you should buy once you have basic combat gear, like whip, crossbow, blowpipe, staff, and armor. It gives the best dps boost for the price. All these BIS items that give a very small boost to DPS is always worth it if you have the money, even if it only takes a few seconds off pvming, because those few seconds could mean the difference between using wasting resources, dying, or just taking longer to kill something, and that starts adding up when you do pvm for hundreds of hours.

Things like the Tbow are about maximizing effectiveness in niche situations. Its outrageous price tag makes it only viable to maxed players grinding gold, pets or raids and hence it is excellent for those. I'd lump the Tbow in the same category as the Scythe. Both unlock strats that aren't otherwise available on specific bosses. To the every player, those items aren't particularly useful, but for people min-maxing their accounts, the prohibitive cost saves enough time to make it worth it. If you plan on doing thousands of Cerebus kills, saving 30 seconds per kill will add up.

While I can’t completely disagree because this is a topic of opinion, I feel like OSRS has evolved into a game where efficiency is everything. With that being said, the best armor and tools are always going to be worth it if you can afford it. I would never recommend barrows over bandos armor while doing almost anything combat related, and in the long run using the dragon pickaxe is worth it over the rune pickaxe. Being fast is everything in this game if you know how to do it properly.

I like the idea, but I think this video would've been better if it was about items that aren't as good at their primary purpose as ppl think they are. I think Prims, Dharok's, and Obby Cape would be good choices. Prims like you mentioned, people think theyre super critical when they only give 1 str bonus over dboots. I think Dharok's for melee training might have been a good choice too, people don't realize that Obsidian with bers. necklace and obs sword is still better for melee training when you reach base 70s. Another pick could be the obsidian cape, which bascially everyone without a fire cape wears, when really a god cloak is usually better cuz of the prayer bonus if you're doing slayer or something where you're going to be praying protection anyway and don't need defense.

So sticking strictly to osrs rules I'd say the zenit jewelry is semi overrated but not to bad because if your praying against most monster you'll never take damage but if this was rs3 yeah fury would be way better. And as for the other things I would completely agree on the angler and twisted bow. Twisted bow isnt good enough to be worth 1b will all other items that come close to it are at most 5m, the cost to performance is just way to skewed

Honestly I'm glad bis are often so niche. I fear a day when there's legit power creep with new items being better in every way than previous items. Wasn't a fan of Torva and Masori in the past two years. If I were running the game I'd rework both of them

there's a few reasons for some of these items aswell. Price of convenience for lazy and overly rich people and defense bonuses being underrated. And the term 'BIS' being warped from 'this is the best item you can wear' to 'this item gives the best bonus in X stat' which is a big difference. The zenyte jewelry is a good example. I see no point in dropping 10 mil for a zenite ammy when a fury is like 2mil. I don't fully agree with some of them purely because i very much dislike degradable armor that requires maintenance but again i guess it's just the price of convenience

personally I totally agree with zenyte jewelry, the fury is actually OP it's defensive stats are good but it's prayer is what makes it OP and I think it should always be a contender among the anguish and especially the torture. I think the torture is the most overrated item in the game lol. Also I think people need to stop saying it's contradictory that you say defense is good for some and bad for others, I don't think that's fair you have to look at things on an individual basis. Although I do disagree that the dfs and ely are overrated, I think the dfs especially is underrated because it is a defensive shield.
