Bournemouth ha always had an underbelly of crime but it kept to itself. What has made it fall over the last 40 + years is the shops, the rent hikes have made it so no one can keep a shop here except for a few months in the summer. Most of the year its now a shut town with multiple closed shops, this leads to little revenue which leads to little investment and then no-one bothers to create things to attract people. The gardens and the beach are ok but the great club scene of the 90s and early 2000s are gone, although a few still exist. Online shopping has killed the high-street across the board. I will say Christmas is a good time to visit as Bournemouth Square adds stalls Garden ice ring etc. The trouble is I don't see many other places on Earth that are what they used to be. There use to be a lot of pride in our cities but that seems to have disappeared. World's going to hell in a hand basket, enjoy what's left I have a feeling there's not many places left to enjoy. I still have hope, but I can't give a reason why.

Wealthier? It's full of old 5-8 bedroom houses converted into studios that you can't swing a cat in. Full of drugs and homeless, rapidly growing violent knife crime and sex crimes, dirty filthy streets, and half he retail buildings are empty. recently voted the 9th worst place to live.

@@samuelstevens248 I don't need to google anything, I moved to Bournemouth 15 years ago and wouldn't live anywhere else. The Bournemouth urban area has a population of over 500,000, of course there is some crime but in 15 years I or my wife have had no trouble despite been around the centre after midnight on numerous occasions. Anyone who thinks its a bad place to live hasn't seen much of the world.
