Great video, but please, please, please, use the right gear when climbing such mountains (this means no Vans or Converse). Im from Slovenia and we had so many accidents in the mountains in the past years because of people, mostly tourists, searching for that perfect IG shot. Be careful and never underestimate a mountain! Good luck.

On your own time mate, but not up a mountain where other people will be called out to save you when what "you tried" didn't work out. Use the right equipment for the job. That's common sense. Running shoes for running, sneakers for boarding around the mall (stick to this if I were you) and proper walking boots OR shoes (they exist) for going up the Alps. Thank you and good day.

A few candidates for the French Alps: * Aiguille du midi: you can get there with an expensive cable car from Chamonix, but the view is amazing. You're just a bit under 4000m and the Mont Blanc is right there, with peaks and glaciers all around. The view of the Aiguille itself is great, you have to wonder who was crazy enough to think building stuff on there was a good idea. * La Meije: famous for mountaineers, as it was the last major summit of the Alps to be climbed successfully. From certain angles it looks really stunning, with large glaciers flowing down its steep sides. From La Grave a cable car will take you to places with a good view on it and other neighboring mountains. In the area is also the plateau d'Emparis, which is a great place to put down a tent and spend a night. * As far as lakes go, the lac Léman is probably the most famous, although most people know its Swiss side more than the French one. The lac de Serre-Ponçon is quite large and nice as well. My personal favorite is the lac Blanc in the Belledonne massif, near Grenoble. It's a smaller lake fed directly by a glacier that sits on top of iron-rich rocks, and the sediment gives it amazing colors. * Someone else mentioned the Vercors, I would highly recommend going to a small town called Chichilianne and hiking up the Pas de l'Aiguille from there. You'll get great views of the Mont Aiguille (a surreal-looking mountain: small grassy plateau surrounded by sheer cliff on all sides), you'll get to see a bit of history with a memorial for the WWII Resistance (which was quite active in the Vercors), and you'll be right at the door of the Hauts Plateaux, a vast area with not much but meadows, sparse trees, limestone rock strewn over the place, and a few sheep.

Start your Training, go to the staircase simulator or do mountainbiking. The expensive thing is just the trains and cable-cars, they do have huts and hostels to stay for cheap. Some hut do have their own little rope installation to get you backpack up. And they all watch out for stuff, urgently. If you run out of money, you just start working as a waiter for a few days. English-Only is no problem. Just May and October is kind of off-season. Not enough snow for skiing, too much snow for hiking.

Actually Grindelwald and Jungfraujoch are very close to each other, because Eiger (the mountain you mentioned when you talked about Grindelwald) is right next to the peaks of Mönch (which is equal to the word friar) and Jungfrau (which means virgin in german). Jungfraujoch is the ridge that is right in between Mönch and Jungfrau. The glacier you mentioned when you talked about your experiences at Jungfraujoch is called Aletsch glacier, which is located at the southern side of the ridge. It’s also the largest and longest glacier of the alps with a length of 20 km and an area of around 70 square km. Hope that helps you a little bit.

With over 900 comments already, what is there to add? I probably mainly echo so much of what has been said already but can't stop myself; My first experience of the Alps was as a 6 year old waking up in my dad's truck with him behind the wheel as we crawled up the Brenner-pass with the cool winds from the Alps striking my face. I loved it and never lost that love of the Alps. I had the privilege to travel a lot and so much appreciate places like Nepal, British Columbia, Costa Rica and so many other beautiful spots, yet find myself again and again coming back to this combination of rugged beauty, lovely valleys, history and great service as well as the safety of travel in the Alps. Would not have like to miss any of the other places though! Though some more gear here and there would have been appropriate, the video also shows how much beauty is accessible for normal mortals with rather minimal gear if you use your brain and have a good condition. I took the family on holidays to Italian Alps (Lake Idro), Austrian Carinthia region, German Neuschwanstein, Switserland and Annecy-France. Annecy was the family favorite. Our recipe is to pick a lake (great for kids) with mountains around it.

About France I'd surely recommend visiting Alpe d'Huez, Mont Ventoux, Col d'Izoard with the Casse Deserte, Chamonix, Val d'Isere and Meribel. As for Italy - Passo dello Stelvio, Laghi di Cancano, Plan de Corones, Cortina d'Ampezzo, Madonna di Campiglio, Lago di Braies, Mottarone, Lago Maggiore, Monte Rosa and the Bernina Express are absolute must-visits.

For 20 years now the Alps have been my obsession. I smile to see you have figured it out so young and I hope you get to go back for the next 50 years and have fun in the Alps. I have been fortunate to have been to all the places you mentioned. When you do go to Slovenia of course Lake Bled is unreal and the easy uphill hike to Mala Osonjnica or Ojstrica will offer you an unreal view and photo opp. The Julian Alps are best seen and hiked off of highway 206 as you drive and park to hike throughout Triglavski National Park. The only thing to mention is you started the video with a view of the Lauterbrunnen Valley and I believe you grabbed that awesome video from the train or trail leading from the LV up to Wengen. In my opinion the Lauterbrunnen Valley is THEE # 1, 2 and 3 top spot in the Alps and the entire world - LOL. So you mentioned Grindelwald and the Jungfraujoch Mountains (I will never be able to pronounce that one = how did you do that?) but everyone must spend equal time in the Lauterbrunnen Valley and above it on the OTHER side which includes the towns of Murren and Gimmelwald (not to be confused with Grindelwald). The hiking up there is truly epic and at the top is an actual James Bond 007 film location. Thanks for putting all of this together. I can only imagine the time and effort you put into editing a travel video like this and I want you to know it brings smiles to so many faces!

Hey Ryan, one of the things that i want to do in the future is traveling around the world so i've two questions for you: 1 do you think that any job can allow you to travel? Or are there still better jobs than others (obviously without looking at the economic aspect) 2 i don't have too many friends and most of them don't really like traveling, how can i find someone with my same interests? For example do you think traveling alone could be a worth solution? Sorry for any mistake
@RyanShirley4 жыл бұрын
Hey Gideon! I’d say just any job that allows you to save up money and gives you time so you can travel is what you should look for. I’ve always done random jobs to find my travels. And as for friends, id say just travel solo! That’s what I usually do because most people have a hard time committing to traveling. And then you’ll meet friends while you’re traveling :) hope that helps
