I thought Dark and Light Pokémon were the coolest thing when I was 7. Basically, if it was labeled in any way (like if it was a Gym Leader's, villainous team's, SP, etc.) I wanted it, even if it was like a Rocket's Ratata with 30 HP and did 10 damage or something.

As a non TCG player the idea of Dark Tyranitar is so wacky to me. Its a fighting type, TTar's least favorite thing ever that is rendered Dark (it wasn't Dark originally??). The TCG's type compression does such wacky things.

the dark dual typing is just a gimmick, tyranitar is almost exclusively dark type in the tcg

As an outside observer, I feel like the biggest source of weirdness in video game and TCG comparisons comes from the fact that Rock is one of the types they skipped over in the gen 1 sets. The other types they skipped can find reasonable partners in the ones they didn't--Bug and Grass were often partners anyway, same with Ice and Water even if they didn't share an identity in type matchups. But Rock being rolled into Fighting makes a bunch of the matchups go weird. And makes for weird situations like Coalossal having neither of its video game types, despite one of those types being in the TCG.

@@EinDoseI really like that the card game is so different from the video games and not an exact copy. It makes for a different experience. Plus, a lot of the Pokemon that are too weak or not good enough to compete with others in the video games are able to do some solid things here in the card game. Bug types that would normally be useless even some colorless Pokemon are suddenly great in the card game with dope abilities. @reme there are multiple versions of tyranitar as a fighting type in the card game and even more versions of pupitar and larvitar as fighting.

bring back dual type pokemon! They were last in standard in 2016 which is around 8 years! Even a longer stretch between steam siege and HGSS sets (legends)

Uh. Mega Gardy was consistently Tier 1.5 to 2 in standard during its time. It was the biggest Mega Mewtwo check and traded really well against Dark and Dark Dragons, a decent 50-50 against Yveltal/Garb (which pretty much had a 50-50 against almost everything anyway), and had a close (albeit slightly unfavorable) Volcanion matchup. Funky against Vileplume box and Vespiquen, and Greninja, with both being very winnable. The only downside in playing the deck is the abundance of MegaRay which it took a hard L to, and a problematic Scizor/Garb matchup (which was less problematic, but still a deck you didn't want to face). In expanded, it didn't need distortion door Giratina. Dimension Valley and Exeggcute made sure you maximized damage consistently. Giratina did make it so you hit numbers more consistently though, but regardless, it traded really well with a lot of decks.

Ok, so Pokémon has always had room for multiple types, and Magic the Gathering has always had room for multiple colors (or “attributes” if you will)… Is there any way for Yu-Gi-Oh monsters to explicitly be multiple main monster types at the same time? Like “Ancient Gear Gadjiltron Dragon” is obviously a “Machine” “Dragon”, so rather than the “Machine/Effect” it already is, could it be legally reprinted as “Machine/Dragon/Effect”? And we also have monsters that treat themselves multiple attributes like “Envoked Elysium”, but they do so as an effect… Could such monsters be reprinted as, say…? _Envoked Elysium_ (LIGHT)(DARK)(FIRE)(WATER)(EARTH)(WIND)

I don't think it would work. Either the dual type monsters would have enough restrictions to be balanced (aka unplayable garbage in the face of the almighty meta). Or not enough restrictions and be available to provide utility to some decks that are not balanced around having that utility, making them broken and getting them banned soon after release.
@ButFirstHeLitItOnFire11 ай бұрын
@@Jack_Rakan … Perhaps is the first few could be generic non-effect, flip or Gemini monsters. Kinda of monsters that are already plenty weak in this day and age even WITH a dedicated deck to help them. Just to test the idea before power creeping it.
@ButFirstHeLitItOnFire11 ай бұрын
@@Jack_Rakan Besides, have you ever seen any number of monsters and thought to yourself “HEY, why is it THAT Type/Attribute?”. Like, if Obelisk, Slifer and Ra were Divine-Beast/Warror/effect, Divine-Beast/Dragon/effect and Divine-Beast/Winged-Beast/effect respectively, that would make them WAY stronger without having to change their existing effects.

hoopa v wouldn't have been on this list anyways, but out of curiosity, does it count as a dual type pokemon?

not really , if it was fog crystal should be able to search it out however, it only gets the psychic type when it’s in play
